  1. I was at the next urinal to Wayne Gretzky when I was 14 and he wasn’t too much bigger (taller) than me.

  3. if it rains even a little bit, the steel plates the tanks will be on will crack and the Abrams will fall through to the magma and create a super caldera which will destroy the entire eastern seaboard. I hope Trump knows this.

  4. I'm a Benetti fan. Every PBP announcer has their own style, it takes some getting used to. Benetti is very good, it takes skill to be able to work effectively with different partners and adapt their differing styles and personalities effectively. Not to mention all the extra curricular stuff the modern day broadcast has to contend with. But then I view the TV broadcast as a supplement to the game. The game is on the screen, I don't need anyone to explain every detail to me even though I'm usually multitasking during the game. The commentary is just background noise. It's a bit like overhearing a couple guys around you discussing the game and other stuff. That's what most people do when they go to the park. If you want straight PBP, get a radio.

  6. I like Benetti a lot. He seems to be somewhat polarizing with Tiger fans, especially with the older ones. He’s such a massive upgrade from Shep.

  10. On that note you don't appreciate how tall many major leaguers are until you are up close to them. I remember the first time I had on deck seats as an adult like 20 some years ago it was against the Yankees and it blew me away how tall Derek Jeter actually looked when he was standing just a few feet from me.

  12. He told to leave? I didn't hear that. Hell, rewatching the video, I'm not sure more than six seconds lapsed from the moment he started speaking to federal officers laying hands on him. Seems pretty clear to me that federal officers escalated this situation and deserve the brunt of the blame. Says the guy saying that a federally elected representative from California, and someone who was born, raised and lived in Los Angeles, who dared to ask a question of an unelected federal bureaucrat who is carrying out a policy that his constituents largely detest, is the real bad guy here.

  14. mlb.tv picked up a WXYT ad for Sheetz on the way back from commercial. 1) "why the Sheetz not?" is a stupid slogan. I get what they're going for, but it's too much of a reach to be clever. 2) "why the Sheetz not?" sounds to me like "why the sheet snot?"

  17. LOL -But Hawk had Stone. I used to hear them sometimes and I always thought that Hawk was a good analyst - as long as the Sox were losing and he was in 'down' mode. Once they they were ahead the was such a fan boy that analysis sort of went out the window. 😂

  19. I guess I'm confused as to what we expect from a TV play by play guy? We can all see what is going on. I want to be entertained a little bit. I like the concept of watching "with" someone. Like MST3K in a smaller sense.

  24. This weekend is the 40th anniversary of my high school graduation. The Tigers were the defending World Series champions when I finished high school. To a high school senior graduating in this year's class of 2025, the year 1985 is as far back in the history books as 1945/the end of WWII was to my class when we graduated. That has nothing to do with tonight's game, but just wow, I think I need a moment.

  26. He gave one to a pill-popping junkie in Rush Limbaugh, so this makes sense. Normally, I would not make fun of people for having a substance abuse problem. But since the right and MAGA always deride people on welfare and those who are low-income as drug addicts, no sense not calling El-Rushblow what he is.

  27. I like Benetti's style because baseball is a long season with a lot of downtime. I was thinking about this the other day in terms of going to games. I attend about 30 a year, 25+ in the same spot near the same people. That's a lot of hours. At some point you find yourself just dazing around and distracted from the actual game. Same as in a booth. A random July game on the west coast and the two guys are talking about a TV show or focusing on a fan eating ribs or chicken wings. We can see the game in front of us, we don't need constant analysis on that. Although the last few years at Comerica they've amped up the filler between downtime. Not a fan of that. Every spare second has to be monetized. Between that and the pitch clock I feel rushed as a fan. Let us savor things.

  30. Newsom's presser last night was thrilling. It was as if someone with a few political skills who was not 99 years old was finally in the fight and in front of a camera with his dander up.

  31. Or the people who do step aside and play but then think they can just sneak in front of the line to exchange their winner for another ticket. the only time I am patient with these players is if it’s an old person getting regular lottery tickets. They have their little book they tuck it in. It’s a routine. For them I recognize it might be their only fun thing they do that day and their only interaction with a human. So getting out is a big deal to them. It keeps them going.

  36. As much as we revere MLK today, a lot of what he did at the time was decried as being provocative and counterproductive. When I see people rant about "political stunts", that's what my mind goes to.

  37. It could be a political stunt, but what if parts of the government are not following the constitution? I don't know if that is what happened in this specific case, but is it not the responsibility of elected leaders to do something about it?
