In terms of the “blackout” rules, I’m fortunate to live in the Northwest and the only games on mlb.tv that are blacked out for me is when the Tigers play the Mariners. That’s something I can live with. I’m glad I don’t have to deal with what the rest of you in the Detroit viewing area have to endure. Several years ago when one of the two IP addresses associated with me was mistakenly assigned to Bartlesville Oklahoma, instead of Boise, Idaho (a not uncommon error a highly skilled tech person for my Internet provider explained) I was blacked out for Astros games, Rangers games, Braves games, and I think Cardinals games all of them somehow within my alleged “viewing area”of the God forsaken no man’s land of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. This makes MLB.TV almost entirely useless for some fans. To their credit when I explained this to MLB TV they made sure I had no blackouts for that remaining year so I could even watch the Tigers play the Mariners that season.1 point

Just saw a post that said you can't do a sign and trade for a 2 year deal, which is what was originally reported for Schroeder (2 for 30M). So, the announcement of this new deal for 3 years (the last year could be an option) might actually mean it's more likely that there is a S&T involved and that could have been the hold up with Sacramento trying to structure a 3rd year on the contract to make it work. Just speculation, but interesting.1 point

That is one reason. But I don't think Detroit would do it. The big one is it would let them keep their mid level exception they are using on Schroder. They could sign more free agents or trade for a guy that fits into the exception without having to send a player out. It basically would give them more flexibility.1 point

So I have two Mt. Rushmore's. One is of my favorite moments in sports and one is the all the bad moments, blunders, stupidity, and SOL. Favorite Mt. Rushmore . . . 1. Michigan wins the National Championship in 1997 and the iconic picture of Charles Woodson with the rose in his mouth. I was a kid then and my dad and I were fist bumping and high fiving when Michigan won the Rose Bowl. 2. Red Wings win the Cup in 2008. Went to Joe Vision for Game 6 when we beat Pittsburgh that year and what a time we had. I had just turned 21 that year too. 3. Magglio's walkoff home run during the 2006 ALCS. The call on this one from Thom Brennaman is great too. 4. Lions beating the Rams for their first playoff win in 32 years. I had never witnessed a playoff win as I was like 4 years old the last time they won a playoff game. I still have beer stains on the siding on the porch awning from us spraying beer all over each other.1 point

I should explain a bit more about the Domestic Reserve List. It is the limit of minor leaguers you can have rostered: 165 in the regular season. This started up a few years ago and was actually reduced from 180 to 165 last year, so last year is when things started getting pretty tight. I've got the tigers around 162 right now (but haven't given it a scrub in a while). Players in the majors don't count; players in the minors on the 40 man do count. Players on the minor league 60-Day IL and full season IL do not count, nor do suspended or restricted list players. You can only have 15 players on the minor league 60-Day IL at one time, and the Full Season IL is only for certain surgeries and prohibits a player from certain activities if they are placed on it. Last year, a bulk of the cuts around the draft were low level players or mid level third catchers. There's lots of players many on here haven't heard of who are just taking up spots on rosters who would be released well before the Kreidlers and Workmans of the world are. Also, injuries have a way of making roster crunches work out. There's ways to juggle playing time beyond that.1 point

This weekend on 107.1 (stylized as 107one in Ann Arbor) we are doing a celebration of Back To The Future. It turns 40 on 7/3 and at 8am (the time when the movie starts) - -every hour we are featuring a different year (in random order, starting with 1985, of course). It's the Time Travel Weekend. We're covering 1980-2025 and the key to a special weekend like this is playing a lot of OH WOW songs that people don't hear much, but were huge in their day. This is a massive undertaking, as we are a small station, with basically two people doing all the grunt work - and this has been 80% on me, (curating the playlist, finding and loading the music, writing and producing all the between-song imaging). because it was my idea and I am the Program Director. Our station has never really done a specialty weekend like this before (because we're such a small staff. But, it should be a fun listen, if you're looking for something a little different. Anyway, I am putting together the songs for 1999 and came across this one-hit novelty song and as I was loading it into our system this morning, I found this incredibly moving, even though I had heard it 1,000 times, but not for over a decade. Maybe it's because I am 60 now and regretting a lot of things that personal fears prevented me from doing. I hate fear. It can be all-consuming. Can't get the years back. I just wish I approached things then with the "who gives a f what anyone else thinks" attitude I have now. Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of '99: Wear sunscreen. I guess I never really considered Blues Brothers a comedy. It’s one of my favorite movies ever. I have 2 DVD copies. It’s in my DVR. And I will watch it when it’s on. I have it memorized. I recite it constantly. Maybe the humor is ingrained so much. Oddly enough recently I just noticed a detail I’d never noticed. After they go into the soul food joint for the Aretha performance they go to Rays. While perusing the merchandise Elwood approaches a toaster oven and pulls out a piece of white bread from his coat pocket to see if it fits.1 point
