Carpenters HR was as epic as any I saw from my seats from Prince or Victor or any visiting player. I legit lost it in the air as it went up right in front of me.3 points

Lopez was the first to pass away, at age 44 in a car accident in Mexico. I don't think he ever got enough credit for his 1984 season. Hernandez got all the alcolades, but Senior Smoke was 10-1 with 14 saves. One heck of a year.2 points

I can believe that there are antiquated systems in place at BLS. However, that's not the stated reason why she was fired. If the system does need to be modernized, I have have no faith that the current administration will address the situation in a thoughful and honest way. The system will be changed with the only goal bing to produce numbers that make Trump look good.2 points

Paddack, Morton and Finnegan have all pitched well. I'll take the players who will be good for Detroit in the second half over the players who were good for someone else in the first half.2 points

They are both quite talented and dedicated IMHO. I enjoy them. Johnny knows many on the team it seems. He will do the extra work to help fans learn more ex his previous podcasts whether it is Jack's mom or Englert's meditation and training, Chaffin & Alexander on the farm, Jake at a restaurant, etc. Their hearts are into and it shows for both of them. We ALL have quirks, mannerisms and personalities or moments where we make a mistake or two while working. There is no perfect.2 points

Yes, Daniella is solid. I like Johnny, too, though. Not a fan of Jonesy. In case you all were wondering. (I’ll share my thoughts on each of you later tonight after my 4th Old Fashioned)2 points

Through some terrible error on mlb.tv I was just now forced mistakenly to watch a Rally House ad for the Texas Rangers.1 point

The Voting Rights Act mandates for minority representation in more districts is in a sense one of the original sins of redistricting abuse. Back in the 60's when the Dems' control of the House appeared beyond threat, packing high percentages of minority voters into single districts to insure a minority election winner was an easy solution for Dems. Not so much today when the consequence of those packed urban districts is to help elect larger numbers of GOP reps in the surrounding districts. If you are a minority voter, which is more important to you, that your rep look like you, or that your Congress have a chance of implementing policy in your favor? Not clear to me at all that the answer to that question in 2025 should be the same as it was in 1964.1 point

To add on. Issues that affect me in SE Virginia may not be the same as those in say Roanoke or Winchester or Charlottesville. I want a rep in DC who looks after my interests and understands MY DISTRICT1 point

For some reason, it's seems of all the major sports, Baseball is the one where the media get most attached to narratives about well know players and forget to let go of them when the players are no longer relevant. I think that underlying paradigm feeds into the ease of generating malcontent interest. A great example has been ESPN commentary about Correa. Carlos is a player who is getting old fast (30), hasn't had a plus hitting or fielding year in three seasons and they are talking about him like getting him is going to win Houston another WS. The odds right now, today, of him being a difference maker for a team are certainly objectively less than say - Zack McKinstry. But Baseball writers just can't let go of the narrative about guys on the downside, so when teams like the Tigers have sense enough to understand that it's a young man's game, they get hammered for it.1 point

Riley Greene will have a breakout tonight. He's going to be wearing his new glasses and they will be spectacular horn rim jobs. He's also going to have a chinstrap for his helmet.1 point

So, he's not exactly a soft-tossing lefty. Still, he generally sits in the 91-93 range, and those types tend to get hit harder as they progress to AA and AAA, based on my observation, because they usually have a breaking ball that younger players may struggle with. He does have a nice 10+ K/9 in A+ though so someone to keep an eye on as he is only 22 right now.1 point

08/05/25 LHP Andrew Sears assigned to Erie SeaWolves from West Michigan Whitecaps. 08/05/25 OF Jackson Strong assigned to West Michigan Whitecaps from Lakeland Flying Tigers. 08/05/25 RHP Lucas Elissalt assigned to West Michigan Whitecaps from Lakeland Flying Tigers. Sears moved up to AA; he has great numbes in A+ but as a lefty who tops out at 95 I am always wary of those types.1 point

You have to answer the question of what purpose does the sports media serve today? Analysis? Nope. We can get better analysis here and on the internet in general. You have to weed through it obviously. Insight and background information? Maybe but the leagues all have their own media and the athletes are don't talk about that kind of stuff anymore. There's no meeting up at the hotel lobby bar or Lindell AC to bitch about the GM. Players are walking corporations. Their interviews are done with the official team podcast sponsored by a law firm that's hosted by organization employees.1 point

Kane is not untalented, but I don't get where all the giggling comes from when he does baseball. It's like there is a bottle of nitrous oxide at the ballpark with his name on it.1 point

I like this deeper pitching staff. Now if Riley could just get a clue of what he is swinging at. He's really lost right now. It's looking to me like he is trying to level out the swing some, but as we know, doing that on the fly during the season is no easy task. Also am realizing how much more I enjoy the games with Dirks. Petry is a great guy, I just gotten to where I don't like listening to him do a broadcast any more.1 point

This is true. The only hook I think Ernie did use a lot was where the fan that caught the ball was from. He was pretty sparing with all the rest of them, so you were always surprised and reminded at the same time.1 point

What's worse, Johnny Kane's moronic giggles or Todd Jones' stutters? The Tigers need new post game show hosts. Those guys are unwatchable.1 point

I actually don't recall him saying that, but it sounds like something he would say. The funny thing is he is known for certain expressions, but he really didn't use them that often. He kept repeating them at the end because new fans wanted to hear them, but in his prime, he picked his spots.1 point

The cap in 2020 was $198 million and today it is $279 million. That is an increase of 40%. Joey Bosa was the highest paid pass rusher at $27 million. Today the going rate is about $40 million, a 48% increase. Bosa was 13%of the cap and $40 million would only be 14%, but we are talking about two top pass rushers. 28% of the cap to two players at the same position. That’s just not sustainable and you’ll lose players at other positions plus your draft picks. Plus, Parsons isn’t even a great fit.1 point
