Sounds like the perfect guy to give a QO to. If he accepts, a one year insurance deal. Decline and draft pick.4 points

I only watch games on TV or listen on radio where crowd noise is muted anyway, so I never notice walk up music in the background. Actually, the less I know about athletes musical taste is all the better. No one would like my walk up music either. My walk up music would be something like Hendrix’s Voodoo Child (Slight Return) or The Clash’s I’m so Bored of the USA, because I’m the kind of boomer other people‘s parents used to warn their children about. the Tigers are tied for 7 most runs scored in baseball and most of the teams ahead of them play in small ballparks. Most nights we are sending 8 of 9 batters to the plate with OPS+ >100 (and Javy is at 95). This set of players is also +30 R(drs) I wouldn't be so quick to try to jettison the pieces of this lineup for 'the grass is greener'. Other than injuries, the Tigers have the luxury of pretty much requiring the next crop of guys to have to force their way onto the line-up.3 points

I'm old, and used to be a baseball fanatic. I played for around 15 years until my body wouldn't allow me to play anymore. Then I got into coaching. From little league to high school. Because I loved the game. Finally got out in 1995 after I started playing around 1965. So maybe 30 years of my life was baseball. During this time the game changed. Strikes, lock-outs, the roid era, the rule changes, the ups and downs. One thing that was always a constant was gambling. Anyone that played understood. It wasn't questioned - it was evil and not in any way should be part of the game. I slowly got away from the game due to all the crap, and eventually turned it off altogether. I didn't miss it one bit. Once in a while I would watch a game and not get through it. Made me mad. Great athletes for sure. Great baseball players, I'm not so sure. Different game, played different, rules different. So much has changed, and so much I didn't like. Then last year I was rejuvenated. My beloved Tigers had a chance to make the playoffs - a shocking development to me at the time - so I started watching again. Finished the last part of last season, and then a month or so ago I got on the bandwagon again. But it's tough. It's no longer the game I knew and loved. Too much has changed. And now this gambling ****. Want to watch? Buy though a gambling site. Get peppered (pepper used to be a baseball drill) with gambling adds all game long. No thanks. Hear about guys getting suspended for gambling violations. Really? What's next? What have they done to what was once the greatest game on planet earth? And most of all WHY? A truly sad affair. <SPIT>2 points

I like these Jeff Seidel articles Detroit Tigers' off-the-field fun as important as on-the-field success As much as I know i'm eating pure sugar ... i like them.2 points

Jason Stark has a new article in The Athletic on expansion possibilities. One takeaway https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6566172/2025/08/21/mlb-expansion-realignment-162-game-schedule/?campaign=14564710&source=athletic_thewindup_newsletter&userId=2136872 points

Hutch is going to get over $40m/yr so on a 4 year deal it's likely $160m or possibly a good deal more than that depending on what Parsons signs for if he's up first. Also, Campbell is going to be a huge part of the Lions defense going forward so there's absolutely no way he's being traded for anything most likely and certainly not for a 30 year old Hendrickson due for a huge extension. Adding a 1st? No chance no way no how.2 points

That made me like him more. If Bauer had a case he could sue. He hasn't. There's a reason no MLB has gone after him to help their club.2 points

Royals lose. The Tigers' AL Central lead is back up to double digits! 10.0 games over KC, 10.5 games over Cleveland.2 points

What I’m seeing is that it wasn’t serious. Left on his own, inference that he may have returned if it had occurred earlier in the practice.1 point

Our society has fallen to where money is the only value and victory is the only reason to play the game. So this is what we get. Now sure, there are plenty - millions - of people for whom that is not what real life is about, but those people no longer control the economy or the culture, or the office of the commissioner of baseball.1 point

The Tigers have the best record in the AL. I like being the chasee better than the chaser. We control our own destiny, just win all the games and we get home field advantage thru the ALCS. Pretty simple...😆1 point

Yeah, surely the tech bros on Wall Street won't conspire to rig the markets so they can win their S&P parlay.1 point

Late bloomer maybe. He's 25. Never really hit before this year. I'm not sure about his defense. He's not on the top 30 prospect list. Probably a long shot.1 point

Yes, pic of me taken at the Joe in 2009. I received the jersey as a Christmas gift in 1984, it’s the only Wings jersey I have ever had and I wear it to games to this day. Have worn it to games in Detroit, Vancouver, Denver, Chicago and Toronto. One of these days I may put together a montage from the past 41 years and post it in the Wings’ forum.1 point

I think you're right, but even if you're not, so what? It's a long-overdue honor that will be fun to watch. I'm not sure why so many people are so motivated to ascribe bad intentions to a good action.1 point

I would agree. Torres has been a wonderful addition this year, but we won't be signing him to another contract. It would be wise to let him walk and get paid by another team. Hopefully his successful season here in Detroit will encourage others to consider coming here on one year contracts to try to rebuild their value.1 point

IMO, Shep's biggest issue was that he's just way to intense of a person to call baseball games. He doesn't seen capable of dialing it down below, say, 7 out of 10, and the majority of a typical baseball game sits between 3-6 on that scale. His natural setting is calling basketball games, which he's quite good at, I think.1 point

I don't hate Cabrera—I love what he did for us for close to a decade—but I'm glad he is not around casting his 800-lb gorilla shadow over this organization. It will be cool to see him show up on the field for this honor or that commemoration once a year or so, but otherwise, as far as I'm concerned, he is firmly in the rear-view mirror.1 point

Without knowing the metrics, and just by the eye test, I think Carp has made positive strides in the OF and is approaching average OF on D. I'm glad Det has team control for 3+ years. I'm much less confident on Meadows' longer-term.1 point

Kroger is a terrible company. We have their Mariano’s nameplate out there. When they came into the market under Roundy’s ownership, they were a hybrid between a specialty market and a major. Now they’re just a Kroger where the store management is basically just phoning it in. I’m starting to consider moving my grocery business to Pete’s Fresh. They’re not cheaper and are missing some things I like, but they also have some things I do like, and have higher quality produce across the board.1 point

According to the SportsLogo.net: 1901-1902 https://www.sportslogos.net/logos/view/7184/Detroit-Tigers-Logo/1901/Primary-Logo Not sure how accurate that is, but I actually do have a hat with that logo... I mean, a modern recreation, not an original of course.1 point

Agree. Dan clearly knew more than the public in that regard. A lot of "what isn't true" adjudication comes from a very aggressive PR effort by Bauer's camp to muddy the waters. Yes, some of the allegations have been thrown out, but not all of them. There is clearly some there there.1 point

I realize this probably shouldn’t matter, but I haven’t thought the same about Dan after his rant against a caller on a podcast who suggested the Tigers could consider Trevor Bauer via free agency. His rant was irrational, and as it turns out, erroneous. I’m no Bauer apologist, but he became unhinged. Came across a bit sanctimonious to me.1 point

I guess I'm in the minority. It's not like I don't think he deserves the jersey retirement, but I wasn't bothered by the fact it wasn't. So much good, but also the not so good things... many nights where he was invisible, laying on the ice like he was shot, the contract issues, the pedophilia. Perhaps the Tigers and Lions success has something to do with it, but I haven't been this disinterested in a Red Wings season in decades. I also feel like the jersey retirement is just to bring up the good old days to distract us from the playoff drought.1 point

Tigers sweep the Astros who are now 6 games back of the Tigers. Philadelphia just finished sweeping Seattle who are now 7.5 games back of the Tigers. Toronto dropped 2 of 3 to last place Pittsburgh and is now 1.5 games back of the Tigers. Cleveland, having only managed a split so far against Arizona, is 10.0 games back of the Tigers. Only the Royals have kept pace with the Tigers but the Royals are 9.5 games back of the Tigers and verging on irrelevance.1 point

This is almost indecent. The Houston area is pretty big. And their fan base is pretty wide. Somewhere a small child wanted to watch this game forced themselves to throw up so they could stay home from school and this is what they’re getting instead.1 point

Is Cal Raleigh having an amazing year? yes Is he the reigning AL Pitching triple crown winner who once again has the league lead in Ks and ERA and is only behind in wins by 2? No. Gimmee Skubal1 point

I don't think I've ever been more nervous before a hockey game than Game 6 of the Wings-Avs series in 1997. Wanted revenge on Clod Lemieux and the Arrogants so badly. This goal by Fedorov is when I realized it was happening.1 point
