If you have ever been in a situation where someone who reports to you goes around you to your boss directly on some project and cuts you out of the process entirely, you would understand what happened to Hinch in Houston. I also think Hinch is the best actual Tigers manager of my lifetime, and he got totally hosed out of last year’s Manager of the Year award.3 points

It is not the most important story of the day, but damn if it doesn't sum this moment up well... an unpopular autocratic leader who is incapable of handling dissent, and a media that goes out of their way to stifle expressions of his unpopularity. That's not the America I grew up in... What a snowflake this POTUS is3 points

I remember you sharing that. I also remember @oblong sharing a story where Jim let him try on his WS ring.1 point

Both those calls look weak. Goff got nearly concussed last year in the playoffs and no call.1 point

Romo can kiss my ass. If you call a timeout with 56 seconds, you’re asking for the Packers to dial up a deep pass, draw a DPI, and kick a field goal. The clock management was fine. Get to the half down two scores.1 point

Didn't even last a half before calling for firings. Where are these perfect OCs and DCs you demand we get? This is kind of how they looked at the start of last year. It's a tough deal. Not playing during the preseason to avoid injuries but then they have no timing at all.1 point

Lions aren’t doing too well right now either, in fact, I don’t think I want to even go over to that forum at the moment.1 point

Looks like no one played in the preseason which of course they didn't. They will get there legs underneath them but will it be in enough time?1 point

They’d rather make money on a commercial. And maybe miss the first play out of the break for another commercial too.1 point

I'm one of the few people I knew who always did the best on tests consisting of essays. I also liked oral exams-the only bummer of stopping at a master's was not having the chance to defend my thesis.1 point

Implementing this is not unlike the discretionary literacy test southern states implemented for voting during Jim Crow days: they can use it to keep out everyone they don't want, while not even administering the test to people they do want.1 point

And as we learned in the early 2010s, having a whole staff of aces on a team anchored by an inner-circle Hall of Fame hitter is also sometimes not enough to win rings.1 point

This is not the NBA. Every team has a shot and no team is likely ti win it all. Some have a better chance than others, but it's largely a crap shoot. The best team might have a 15% shot, the worst team a 5% shot. The Tigers are probably right in the middle. I am going to enjoy the show.1 point

You make it sound like a video game where as long as things balance out on paper, in your opinion, then the deal gets processed. Like a credit card transaction. Each org determines the value of who they want and who they give up. You don’t know what that value is, on either side, because you weren’t in on the discussions.1 point

But I am not following the point of the distinction. In either scenario they are the AL Central champs and having nothing else to accomplish after 11 wins. Nobody will refer to them as the “outright” champions or anything but the champions if they happen to have the same record. They have earned the title by the basis of the rules in both scenarios.1 point

Valdez, Imanaga, King (if he proves that he is healthy this month). Cease and Senga have the talent to be aces with the right coaching. Sale is very good, although not likely to be available. Free agent lists are never deep, but I don't see this list as "piss poor". Trades can be made too.1 point

I expect a dog fight for three quarters that the Lions pull away from late. Jordan Love scared me the way the Boogeyman scares children for much of the last two years. Has he ever hurt me? Well, maybe a little on Thanksgiving 2023. But generally no. But I was scared of him anyway, because of what could be. Because of horror stories my father would tell me of Love's father, Aaron Rodgers, and Love's grandfather, Brett Favre, and how they would tear Lions apart bone by bone before going on acid trips in the mountains and defrauding the impoverished people of Mississippi. I'm not scared anymore. The dude is 18-15 in his career as a starter, and I watched with my own eyes as he folded under pressure against the Eagles in the last game he played. 20/33 for 212 yards, 0 TDs and 3 INTs. Against the Lions he is 1-4 and has averaged 18/29 for 225 yards, 1.2 TDs and 1 INT. Take away the aforementioned Thanksgiving Day game and he is 0-4, averaging 17/28 for 215 yards, 0.75 TDs and 1 INT. And apparently, he's already injured this year, and it is affecting his handoffs. The Packers are a well coached team, even if their coach is a total douchebag. That coaching is what has kept them competitive the last few years, despite not having the sheer talent that Detroit and Minnesota have. Top to bottom they are a clear 2nd or 3rd in nearly every position in the NFC North. The thing is, more often than not, the talent wins out. Detroit just has more talent. The offensive line will need to do their job today as all eyes will be on them and how the interior run game and pass protection looks without Ragnow or Zeitler. But generally, I think the Lions have the firepower to win this game, and I expect they will. Detroit 24 Green Bay 131 point

Woah. Admittedly, I didn't see this coming, I thought Jamo could be the one that got away. I'm glad we got him down for Tee Higgins money now before he demanded Ja'Marr Chase money next offseason. Who is left as priorities? Hutch obviously from the '22 class, need to make a smaller money decision on Josh Paschal and Malcolm Rodriguez too. Then Jahmyr Gibbs, Jack Campbell, Brian Branch, and Sam LaPorta next year. Can they afford all four?1 point

Yeah I can see grabbing someone as a bounceback and stashing them like what we’ve done with Uriquidy. But Maeda, Cobb, Brebbia, Shelby Miller, Shreve, Wingenter, Hernandez, Jackson, etc….. all the roster moves and options used and all the money spent on those guys would probably end up being about the same as getting one proven and reliable pitcher.1 point

And the truth is, Americans buy illegal drugs voluntarily. We 100% create the market and then accuse the people of filling it of being the problem. So the whole premise is at best a half-truth. Can anyone argue that the Venezuelans are responsible for more US addiction than Purdue pharma? How many Sacklers has JD or his boss dropped any bombs on? I'm sure that family has at least one Yacht our erstwhile drug enforcement wannabes could have blown out of the water.1 point

After this Cobb situation, I hope Harris is done with the “finding damaged goods” strategy for the pitching staff. We’ve got part of the core entering their prime years—go out this offseason and get some legitimate pitching.1 point

A couple things happened while I was enforced away: Trump and Hegseth murdered a boat of people for whom the previous and extant justification for extrajudicial killings was not proven in any way beyond "just so" rationalization. The existing process for dealing with such a boat is to shoot out its engine and board it to make arrests and seizures. Meanwhile, the leaders of the alliance of Trump's would-be friends got together in Beijing to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War2 and to stab at the heart of the West's post-WW2 political order of NATO and the East Asian democracies we helped build through blood and treasure. They even got Vietnam to attend which fricking hates China but they know the US is a terrible ally at the moment. Xi knows how valuable alliances are...why doesn't Moscow Donnie and Drunken Pete?1 point

man, social media is super weird. if I understand the current zeitgeist, it is clear to many that Scott Harris will be fired for incompetence probably on the same day the Tigers clinch their playoff appearance1 point
