I would almost guarantee they are not going 'all-in' on 2026. The entire ethos is about sustainability and long term success. What I want to see them do is make some baseball trades and improve their pitching depth.3 points

A good opportunity to point out that if Bill Freehan were in the HOF he'd be far from the worst person to be in there. He'd not even be the worst Tiger in there.2 points

This game has reminded of the words of one of the greatest philosophers of modern times and something we should all remember as we move through this season: "This team is going to take on the identity of this city and this city has been down and it found a way to get up. It's found a way to overcome adversity, So this team is going to be built on, we're going to kick you in the teeth, And when you punch us back, we're going to smile at you. And when you knock us down, we're going to get up and on the way up, we're going to bite a kneecap off. And we're going to stand up and it's going to take two more shots to knock us down. And on the way up, we're going to take your other kneecap and we're going to get up and it's going to take three shots to get us down. And when we do, we're going to take another hunk out of you. Before long, we're going to be the last one standing."2 points

I hope the 2026 Detroit Tigers will be just as terrible as the 2025 version.2 points

And as we learned in the early 2010s, having a whole staff of aces on a team anchored by an inner-circle Hall of Fame hitter is also sometimes not enough to win rings.2 points

You make it sound like a video game where as long as things balance out on paper, in your opinion, then the deal gets processed. Like a credit card transaction. Each org determines the value of who they want and who they give up. You don’t know what that value is, on either side, because you weren’t in on the discussions.2 points

And there are a lot more sophisticated tools at this regime's disposal. And just because everybody thinks Trump is dumber than a bag of rocks sure doesn't mean that nobody around him knows how to use those tools.1 point

Yup, That is exactly who he has always been and he used to be openly proud of it. Anybody who doesn't understand this has either not payed attention at all or is willfully ignorant.1 point

I can't fully indict Moore for the failures on Saturday and the overall state of the program is in just yet. Do I have a ton of confidence in his coaching? No. Do I think he's a great X's and O's coach? Not really. Do I think he's a good "leader of men" type of coach? That remains to be seen. Do I think he is a good recruiter? At least somewhat I do. I think he has brought in a couple of solid classes now of new recruits. As Buddha said, he needs to work the transfer portal better. He also needs to prove he can develop players and get their full potential out of them. Something Harbaugh turned out to be very good at after a period of time. I think Moore deserves more time to try and prove he's a better coach than what he's shown from an in-game stand point. I think he deserves more time to show he's got a better system for player development. I'm at least giving him this full season to see what he can do. If it doesn't go off the rails and we can win 8 or 9 games, I'm willing to give him next season too. If it does go off the rails and we're trending into Rich Rod or Harbaugh the Covid year territory, I'm going to pull the plug for someone better. The fact is that Jim Harbaugh skipped town like a bitch and left the program empty and under investigation. While I'm elated at having won the National Championship under Harbaugh's watch, **** him for how he left the program high and dry in the end. He basically pulled a Pete Carroll at USC, knowing that there were violations committed and penalties coming as a result. He skipped town so as not to have to face any of the punishment. He left that for Moore to deal with. I don't know if there is any coach in America that could step into the murky situation Moore did with an empty recruiting class, an NCAA investigation, and pending penalties coming down against the program. I mean, maybe a Nick Saban or Urban Meyer could have done better than Moore has and sooner. But it feels like most coaches asked to take over such a situation would have failed, at least in their first year. As a result of that, I'm willing to give Moore additional time to prove himself. Hell, he beat Ohio State sooner into his tenure than Harbaugh did. Sherrone did it in a year, it took Harbaugh 6 years to do it.1 point

Thing is, it won't be completely refunded. The refunds will stop at the company level and not filter down to the end user, which is the customer.1 point

If Cleveland does well in this week's series, that may put an end to any confusion resulting from Chaz's stubbornness to embrace the new rules. 😃1 point

Honestly I was thinking it during the preseason but gave the coaching staff the benefit of the doubt. However in light of this game I firmly believe it was a dumb mistake to not have the 3 IOL playing in the preseason. Other places as well but this one really sticks out. I know they talk about how with the joint practices they can get good looks while lowering the risk of injury but I just don’t agree. They looked average/bad the first couple weeks last season as well. Also how did Miami and Houston look this week. Did we really get that good of quality practices in?1 point

My biggest concern was OL. It’s a new group and their all pro player probably had his worst game as a pro. I trust in Hank Fraley to get it figured it out. He is one of the best. They just need more time to gel. Game plan and playcalls don’t matter much when your line is a sieve. Which brings me to the point of maybe it’s time to retire the play nobody strategy in preseason. This is 2 years in a row the offense has started flat. They can’t wait until week 4 to get I’d figured out this season or else they’ll be 1-31 point

I'm pretty sure there is, although I interpret the story as changing the test from something that is achievable and can be objectively scored to something subjective that is up to the person who's giving the test in the moment. That's essentially how the southern literacy tests for voting worked—as long as the loyalists were put in charge of the testing, the state got the result they sought.1 point

A great many of them moved to Metro Detroit and worked in the automotive industry. Magnus von Braun - Wernher's brother - was an executive at Chrysler in Macomb County. Many of them were still in the workforce in one capacity or another up until the 1980's.1 point

Last season, they lost the 2nd game of the year, to Tampa, at home. And then we won 11 in a row. Fans really need to relax.1 point

The offense will only go as far as the offensive line will take them. If Goff doesn't have time to throw, he will not look like a star and the receivers won't either. If they can't establish the run because Goff can't complete passes or gets sacked, Gibbs and Montgomery will not look like stars. The conservative approach and lack of creativity was disappointing, as was the inability to make adjustments.1 point

This is not the NBA. Every team has a shot and no team is likely ti win it all. Some have a better chance than others, but it's largely a crap shoot. The best team might have a 15% shot, the worst team a 5% shot. The Tigers are probably right in the middle. I am going to enjoy the show.1 point

If you have ever been in a situation where someone who reports to you goes around you to your boss directly on some project and cuts you out of the process entirely, you would understand what happened to Hinch in Houston. I also think Hinch is the best actual Tigers manager of my lifetime, and he got totally hosed out of last year’s Manager of the Year award.1 point

Underwood has been fine. Let's not forget that a year ago yesterday he was going against Livonia Stevenson's defense. Less than a year ago he was asked to dissect the perilous defensive schemes of the Wayne Memorial Zebras. True freshmen generally shouldn't play D1 football at the QB position, even when they are generational players like Underwood is made out to be. I'm pretty confident there is absolutely nothing of note behind him on the depth chart, which is why he is playing anyway. That being said, I think he is doing just fine under the circumstances. Brent Venables is no joke as a DC, and Underwood treaded water without making a costly mistake. The offense was more than one player away last year, and it looks seriously improved. It's not a 2022 or 2023 offense, but it's definitely better. They weren't going to go from 7-5 back to 12-0 overnight.1 point
