  4. I'll settle for 2-1 tonight if we get Berts in the playoffs.

  5. If Cleveland and Detroit are tied after game 162 and face each in the wildcard round, it would be very similar to 2009. The wildcard round would break the tie, the Tigers would be on the road, and the winner advances to the ALDS. Instead of Game 163 it would be Games 163-165.

  6. In preparation for attacking the American people when they gather to protest? Because deadly force is now on the table in Portland.

  7. last year they had a horseshoe up their butts for the final 40 games. this year the exact opposite. baseball is a funny ol game.

  8. Bailed out by the Monster twice tonight... The Tigers were momentarily favored in the division before that double when the Rangers went up 7-2.

  12. I’m glad the Tigers won. I’m glad the Red Sox made it easy for them. I’m glad they didn’t get bumped from the playoffs after they were a sure thing for so long of even getting a bye. I’m not in a celebratory mood though. it never should’ve been a but by the skin of your teeth nailbiter on the next to the last day of the season.

  13. Same calendar date as last year they clinched the playoffs.

  14. Overkill?! They just made the playoffs today! Who doesn’t celebrate that with champagne? Come on!

  15. While the clubhouse celebration seems like a bit of overkill, it could be really good for the team. Release the pressure and give them a fresh start for the new season on Tuesday.

  16. Hey you guys, Thanks for being a pretty darn cool group. Thanks for helping me get through this. Hopefully we stay busy for a few more weeks.

  19. That was surprisingly easy. The fans deserved that for all we have been through the past 2 weeks.

  24. This is a good old-fashioned butt whooping. The only thing more disappointing than the US performance is the behavior from the US crowd.

  25. Any lineup with a guy in Perez' slump batting 3rd is not a real lineup.

  26. P.S. there's a mean part of me that actually hopes he'll live long enough to be brought to justice-preferably by having his money taken away and being forced to live in a remote place where he has to take a vow of silence.

  27. I saw that he's referring to Portland as being 'war ravaged.' So he's finally calling what he's doing what it is-waging war against those who disagree with him.

  28. Gotta pay that Alex Cobb signing somehow.

  29. Thank you Alex Cora! No Duran, Bregman, Story, or Gonzalez. I hope he’s also planning to rest both Whitlock and Chapman if he’s got the lead late.

  30. Pizza Boy probably would prefer to pitch Skubal on Sunday if it means they can win the division. Two home games with attendance, parking, and concession revenue. It'll help pay for the Alex Cobb terrible signing.

  31. But pitching him Sunday would make him available for the WC round game 3 on 3 days rest and just game 3 of the ALDS on 4 days rest. Not pitching Sunday would give him plenty of rest for game 1 of the WC, and for the ALDS games 2, with 4 days rest, and game 5 if needed also with 4 days rest. If no game 5 is needed, he could start games 1 & 5 of the ALCS on 6 days and 4 days rest, respectively. If ALDS game 5 is needed, he could start game 4 of the ALCS with 4 days off, and for game 7 he'd get 3 days rest. So it seems that resting him on Sunday would make sure he pitches in the WC series, and makes him available and rested twice for each of the subsequent series including the last game of ALCS and ALDS series. If he is used on Sunday for home field advantage, he might not even get a chance to pitch in the post season at all if the WC ends in a two game sweep of the Tigers. If the Tigers advance, he would get one game in the ALCS, and 2 in the ALDS. I'm sure Hinch would agree with me. In fact, that may be him on the phone right now.

  32. i love a top farm system as much as the next guy, but they didnt have to dismantle the farm system to pick up some useful additions at the deadline, or make a deal before then (or, as you agitated for, sign an alex bregman to fill their massive hole at third base). sometimes the "but that contract will look terrible in three years" argument shouldnt rule the day when you only have so long with your best player. i think its a case of the "smartest guys in the room" syndrome. can we combine harris' scouting with dave dombrowski's ability to make trades?

  33. It wouldn't of mattered who they sent in to pitch the 9th, the results probably would have been the same so AJ didn't have much choice. I don't feel bad for him though since he has made some pretty bad decision that contributed to a few loses. The way he uses Carpenter is terrible. The biggest problem is that Harris thought he didn't need to pick up any quality players at the deadline. He's trying to compete with a pen he picked up at the dollar store. I hope they don't bring back a lot these pitchers and can pick up a quality set up man and a closer and not someone from waivers or a 40 year old they think they can fix.

  34. One could say that he's so focused on his long-term plan that he can't make adjustments when given a current opportunity to win.

  35. I think you can view it two ways 1- injuries are not a GM's fault - the starting pitching looked solid going into the season. There was no sense throwing away the future at the deadline - there was no possibility of adding enough to repair it all. 2- Thinking the pitchers that made up last years BP could repeat what they did was wishful thinking. He went into the season with a BP for which implosion was a high probability. Then he bungled the deadline by adding a lot of quantity but insufficient quality.

  37. I can't believe that the Tigers won't take Perez out of the lineup. He is killing the offense.

  38. I get that it’s Aroldis Chapman throwing triple digits and all, but there were some pitches in the fat part that major league hitters should be able to do something with.

  44. I’m not listening to much, but my son is in Chicago this weekend for Riot Fest. He’s 23 and he’s never been in a big city with his friends without parental supervision and he’s having the time of his life staying at the Hilton across from Grant Park. Other than Weird Al, I’m not sure who else he saw today and I’m not expecting him to constantly update me. Tomorrow among other things, he’s seeing Jack White and The Beach Boys. Tomorrow Green Day closes the show with about two hours of music. He went to the museum of science and industry this morning and was completely blown away. Everything is occurring at Douglas Park and there’s more groups playing in three days than I care to count. I’m really happy for him. I did count and there’s roughly 90 bands https://riotfest.org/chicago/lineup/
