I think that is because many fans believe the Tigers can get more for one year of Skubal than they likely will.4 points

The wife pointed out that we gave Libertarian leader Millei more in one go than the entire USAID budget. Pretty much encapsulated the situation. Welfare for the Oligarchs and ****all for the poor, the sick, the needy. That camel ain't getting through that needle eye.4 points

I'm in the minority, but I would roll with Skubal in 2026 through the season, regardless of where we are at the trade deadline. I don't see any team giving us the OMG deal either this winter or in July. It's definitely a gamble, but as Skubal is taking a gamble on himself, the Tigers should make the same gamble, even if we only get a draft pick. Yes, they still need to pick up another front line starter this winter, a couple relievers ( though I hope Madden & Dylan Smith can take a step forward in 2026), and a big RHH preferably RF.3 points

I can see one guy from that core being moved, but otherwise for good or bad, that's it. If I'm going to play armchair GM, and I feel I have to move a core player for some pitching, the guy I'd like to move would be Carpenter. I'd have to buy out most of Javy's deal to move him, besides he's my safety net in CF. If you get a catcher who can receive and throw, and even hit some, you hold onto that for dear life, so I'm not even answering the phone about Dingler. Torkelson might bring back something of value but I'd just have to turn around and shop for a RH bat to replace his production. That leaves Greene and Carp and I think Greene crimped his value last season. I'd rather risk that he gets back on track than sell low. That last part is the gamble. I'd rather know all that the coaching staff knows about Greene's season from the inside before making that call.3 points

When you look at Whitewater... it's such small potatoes. Seriously. The scandal responsible for much of the drama in the 1990's.... go research it. It wouldn't even get noticed today. Every person who ever criticized Bill Clinton but supports the current guy is a hypocrite. Trump is Clinton on steroids, super soldier serum, and everything else. He's all of Clinton's flaws multiplied exponentially.2 points

This team needs to stop trying to play traditional basketball and embrace the chaos. They don't have the skill or roster makeup to play a beautiful half court game. They do have the athletes to play fast and create chaos. I know it's only four games, but their current pace is 14th in the league. With this young and athletic roster, they need to be top 3-5 in terms of pace. Think about the best basketball we saw last season. It was always when they played fast, both on offense and defense. High pressure defense, and run run run on offense. Embrace the chaos.2 points

Can you imagine the apathy if not only do you take a team out of contention by making the team worse this year and then have a work stoppage in 2027?2 points
-
They need to keep him unless they get overwhelmed with an offer. Trading your ace pitcher when you are likely going to contend is not a good move. I would think the players would not like that much.2 points

Cruz is not a good source for that kind of crap. and why is the right wing so obsessed with this race? I wish I could put my finger on it... actually I can2 points

I don't see Harris trading Skubal unless he is offered a crazy deal. If Detroit keeps him through 2026, I have a hunch he'll sit a while as a free agent, as it's likely there will be a work stoppage in 2027.2 points

How do we know Boras is negotiating? I’ve read that the Tigers have made offers, which may or not be true, but do we know if Boras has countered with anything?1 point

The Dodgers’ radio of call of this was interesting. It’s their home park but off the bat Stephen Nelson didn’t sound like he expected it to go out. Then he gets a bit more excited as Varsho drifts back and then holy crap it’s gone. A couple of balls that looked like they could dangerous earlier in extra innings went for long outs, like one by Will Smith.1 point

I think Tackle will be the first round pick in 2026 - because even if Decker does come back, he's not going to play much longer.1 point

Never understood why nobody hits him. Lay him out once and he won't act like this.1 point

Plus he's ignorant, which is one thing you could never say about Bill Clinton. Despite whatever character failings he had, he had a firm command of both facts and policy.1 point

May favorite "hidden perk" was for a while when I had to fly back and forth regularly from DTW to MSP early in the morning. For whatever reason at that time Delta just had open boarding on that first flight. Just walk to the gate and right onto the plane. Maybe because the plane was already there in the morning pre-prepped and ready to go? Don't know why but it was a real throw back to 30yrs earlier when flying was still something to look forward to.1 point

I agree. I'm just pushing back on the idea that Vlad was robbed of an at bat had he held at third. He was never going to get an at bat either way—just a plate appearance at most.1 point

All in for 2026, you keep Skubal ( yeah, maybe he gets the injury bug this year, or the main piece in return for the trade does ?? ), every year is a c**p shoot each year. He is your best option to lead the team for 2026, each year is a whole new ballgame. Try to get Bichette, he can play SS for a couple years while you determine where McGonigle, Keith, Lee, Anderson play or get traded. A RH hitter for the OF. Then Dingler, Greene, Meadows / Clark ? , RH OF, Tork, Bichette, Torres / McGonigle / Keith. Skubal, #2 SP, Mize, Melton, Jobe (2nd half ?), Olson, Flaherty. Start there and see what flies or sinks....1 point

Harris already talked about not blocking young players so they probably don't go after any position players. Maybe a qualifying offer for Torres.1 point

I don’t think fans want to see him go, but are resigned to it, so would like to see us get players in return. I don’t share this view—I’d prefer going all in for 2026.1 point

I'm not advocating signing him to a long term deal (even though I'd definitely be happy if they did as it would mean they figure the $ work). I'm saying what Lee, Chas, and Brian are saying, you don't trade your Ace (who will be closer to $20 mil for 2026) when trading him takes you from being the favorites in the division to playoff long shots. And for sure TV and radio ratings will drop if they aren't in contention and that is where most of the long term revenue $ end up being. I know I don't make it a point to watch at least part of probably 80% of their games when they are having down years like I did last year.1 point
-
yeah - exactly. I'm sure there is a trade out there that would work to the Tigers advantage, but it's just a fact that few GMs ever make a trade like that. And I think it would have to be at least a three way deal - it has to be a more complex set of swaps to get enough pieces to fit. And since we have never seen Harris swing any kind of complex deal (cf, DD), there is no precedent to expect one.1 point

I don't trust anybody who tells me MLB teams are losing money, even business journals that get their information from we can probably guess what sources.1 point

And that crazy deal would have to make us not worse this year. No way Harris intentionally sets the team back on their momentum.1 point

Jay's batter swung and missed at ball four with the bases loaded in the 17th or 18th (? it's kind of a blur!). The door was open but they couldn't walk through.1 point

Wow, JJ McCarthy better be ready. The Lions are going to throw everything at him. Who is the Viking backup now? The Lions would need to sweep the Vikings for 18 years to have a better record. Wow.1 point

these kinds of claims are still BS though. In the end, all dollars are fungible. I'm sure there are some donors only interested sports, but there are a lot of donors that might have endowed a 100 scholarships or built a chem lab if they have gotten the same pitch from a different development official.1 point

I’d offer QO to Flaherty and Torres and try to resign Finnegan as well from last year’s team. I’m probably trading some players like Ibanez, Malloy and Jung even if it’s not for much just to clear space. As far as additions I’d like to bring in a 1 year SP and a lefty bullpen arm. The big acquisition I’m making is probably Bichette for 7-8 years near 200 million to play SS and 3B over his career here. The big question is Skubal and I’d probably trade him if you get the right offer but then you need another SP. I’d love to watch him another season but I don’t see anyway that he resigns here and to only get a draft pick back and still need to replace him would be tough.1 point

It’s really neat how the Blue Jays can score runs and not strike out 17 times and just shrug it off.1 point

I would offer qualifying offers to both Torres and Flaherty. I would try to resign Finnegan. I wouldn’t exclude any Tiger from last year in a trade. Obviously the market will bear different values for each player. Specific to Robert, I suspect he’s a looks good as an acquisition until he’s acquired. He’s another high strikeout batter, which isn’t what the Tigers need. I’m not adverse to dealing Meadows and Malloy, but I’m not sure this is it. I would rekindle chats with Bregman. And obviously there’s that extension stuff with Skubal to deal with. I’m open to turning over a decent chunk of the roster without giving up too much present and future.1 point

I guess Max is the Blue Jays starter for game three. I don’t particularly have anything against players that are traded away or leave through free agency, but I am resentful at the success they enjoy elsewhere and experience it as a betrayal, even though it’s not. So I am all for Max tonight although I don’t think I’ll watch the game and I’ll just probably peek in here and there.1 point

It’s actually two boys playing on a tire swing and it was in the Boise mall for years and when new ownership took over they threw it away and some one saw it on the scrap heap at metal recycling facility and they knew the artist so they retrieved it and the artist repaired it and put it in the botanical garden. It was a beloved piece of public art that a lot of people recalled fondly from a more innocent time in our city’s past and it was kind of a big deal to reclaim it. Absentee ownership moves in all sorts of places and erases public memories, but this was one memory that in the end, and only by happenstance, was not erased.1 point
