  1. He's also a former three-term Governor of NYS and the son of a legendary former three-term Governor of NYS. Even with his scandals, that sort of name recognition is absolutely an institutional advantage that Cuomo had going into this thing, particularly with lower information voters who don't follow the daily stuff like we do. Just don't think the picture is complete without this context. It's not like Cuomo was a rando running as an Independent

  2. I’m not telling anyone who thinks differently, they are wrong. They aren’t. I’m not wrong either. They are just a different opinions on subject whose answer looks like it will never be known. {I really hope it does get answered and I turns out I was wrong}

  3. They are #2 in the league in sacks despite having missed their entire starting secondary for a game and both starting CBs for multiple games. Not sure what they could have done defensively that would have moved the needle other than let guys get healthy. Offensively, are we supposed to think that they should have traded for a starting center or left tackle in the middle of the season? Has that ever happened at the trade deadline? What needs to happen is Dan Campbell, Johnnie Morton, and Hank Fraley lock themselves in a room for a day and come up with a simple game plan with a lot of two TE and jumbo sets and some play action. Lay off the cutesy screens for a bit.

  4. 2003.... game 161. Tigers at 119 losses. Saturday night. Bottom of the 9th, tie game. Sanchez walks. Steals 2nd. Steals 3rd. Wild pitch, he scores the game winning run to ensure the Tigers won't break the single season losing record. One of the best pre-2006 moments in Comerica Park history.

GOP: Even if courts say we must feed people we will not! Dems: What is wrong with you? GOP: We will have a Great Gatsby party! Dems: We will take whatever measures are necessary to prevent you from destroying our country any more.

  6. not surprised at all that Spanberger won, but an easy 10+ win, with a clean sweep with both LT Gov and AG, and a super majority in the House of Delegates, and every county moving Blue - that's an ass kicking. Looks like the entire county has one message: F*** Off MAGA!

  8. I don't know that Mamdani's win was *that* impressive in the grand scheme of things from a numbers perspective, but in his defense, he faced an absolutely nasty campaign and that had every institutional lever imaginable pulled against him. From the millions of elite dollars thrown at him to slanted and, frankly, unfair coverage of his campaign in the New York Times and other media outlets. And Cuomo, the slug that he is, is still a big name that registers with low-info voters and probably earned some votes on name recognition alone. He's not really my cup of tea, I have my disagreements with him, but in that context, I think his win was solid (if not impressive) The bigger takeaway for me from him winning along with candidates like Spanberger/Sherrill is that the Democratic Party is a popular front / big tent party and that it's power comes when it is unified. And all three shared a message centered around cost-of-living issues and other issues that voters care about in this moment.

  14. Maybe 8 years ago me and the Boss went to Pittsburgh for a baseball game. Bought tickets early and had great seats. Stayed at the hotel down on the island between the baseball park and the football park. Really neat area. All kinds of shops, food places, bars. We were lucky enough to see it the start of the game in daylight, and then after dark. It is a truly beautiful park and area. If you ever get the chance, don't miss it. One of the beauties of this trip, was the trip. We had all day to get there as we couldn't check in until 4, so we took the scenic route. Since I live in mid NW Ohio, we went South and took 30 East. We had an old - un-updated Garmin - and at some point ran out of road. No more 30. 21 miles of hills on a 2 lane winding road to get back to society. Found a town called Paris. Told the Boss - see, I told you I would take you to Paris someday. She wasn't amused. It got better. Once back on the correct route, now maybe even late, we go through the panhandle of West Virginia. Two lane highway through a small town, on a curve, there is a sign beside the road. 8 x 10 piece of plywood done with spray paint that said - FAR WOOD That was worth the trip right there. Wish I had gotten a picture.

  16. I don't think that's true, the O-line concerns have been prevalent all season. Green Bay, Kansas City, Tampa Bay and Minnesota games they've been owned with three of these teams being legit contenders, the type of teams that they have to go through to win in the playoffs. It's been a problem all season and even moreso now with the injuries piling up. With that said, it's very hard to acquire quality offensive linemen in season so the Lions were always going to ride or die with this group. Frankly, I'm very concerned about the offensive line and it's a major roadblock to SB contention.

  19. Again, to paraphrase Grant, I'm tired of banging on what he's gonna do over and over again. It doesn't solve anything. When people, even his opponents, build him up into this force of nature for which the laws of politics do not apply, it serves his interests.

  20. All those teams are out of it and sold other players. Not a stretch to assume a good offer gets it done. None of these guys were worth a late first but we had other picks that could’ve got it done. I do think there’s some credence to the point that bad teams are a little less likely to weaken their lines in an attempt to protect their young QB’s.

  22. yes! i was at that game. i had won the tickets from the detroit news, which held a contest something like 'detroit's biggest tigers fan.' my entry was that i had (have) a tattoo for this **** team. i won tickets and like some baseball cards or something -- probably all dozen or so people that entered won something. i remember the 8th inning comeback but had forgotten the two stolen bases in the 9th

  23. Would you have traded two first round picks and Kalif Raymond for Sauce Gardner? If you aren’t ready to give up a massive trade package at the deadline, you are only going to end up with marginal players. The Bears got Joe Tryon-Shoyinka. He was barely seeing the field in Cleveland. Whose roster spot are you going to give up for him? Is he any better than Paschal or Davenport or Wingo for that matter? The defense has been sound, not great, but improving and getting healthier. The biggest problem on offense is not with personnel, it is with scheme and coaching. Yes, OL took a hit on Sunday but the solution to a problem that is largely based on communication is not to drop in new players.

  24. Thinking they didn’t have a potential problem because mid-season stats were good has been the demise of many very talented teams. You have always got to be trying to get better. I do agree that the coaches need to get better. The screens are perfect when you call them into a blitz. Jared and Morton need to do a better job of getting them in and out of these plays at the right time. Flores had their number on Sunday. He was like a hot roller at the craps table.

  26. Re:Mamdani: the key for any mayor (or an exec for that matter) is whether he appoints based on competence or politics. For instance, if he looks at the Mayoralty primarily to bootstrap people from DSA into prominence, he will likely fail. If he's hard headed about putting good people into civic management, he will likely succeed. It's no different than the way Trump consistently fails on policy - he has surrounded himself with a confederacy of dunces. Even if he were playing with a full deck, there is no way all the clowns around him can execute.

  30. To quote Ulysses Grant: "Oh, I am heartily tired of hearing about what Lee is gonna do. Some of you always seem to think he is suddenly going to turn a double somersault, land in our rear and on both of our flanks at the same time. Go back to your command and try to think what we are going to do ourselves" I understand the point Leah is making, but the reality is that literally everyone already has this inclination of what Trump will or won't do... Regardless of how bad GOP losses were or weren't last night, people were going to walk away with the same impression of what's to come. It's more constructive to focus on your game instead of constantly dooming about what Trump's gonna do

  33. This gives me some hope that people were simply fooled by Trump's groceries, French fries and garbage get up. Now they realize who he is. Hopefully the damage to Republicans lasts a long time and we can all progress towards the future together as free democracies. He has immunity but the rest of them don't. You get charged with corruption and you get charged for war crimes and you get charged for excessive violence!

  35. the thing about gerrymandering is that it can be a double edged sword if the electorate starts to move. You maximize your seats by concentrating the other sides voters as much as possible, but also by contructing districts which you think you can win narrowly but consistently. If a major shift does occur, your losses are going to be greater.

  36. The usual caveats on extrapolating aside, a world of double digit shifts away in urban/suburban areas coupled with 4-8 point shifts in rural GOP counties would make for a really really bad night if it happens in 2026.... no amount of gerrymandering would prevent huge losses.

  38. Again with the projection here. It's not the Democrats holding anybody hostage—it's the Republicans using working people of modest means and small business entrepreneurs as weapons to get Democrats to completely capitulate to their agenda. Does anyone remember Superman II, the movie? Terence Stamp played the villain (Doctor Zod, was it?) who was fighting against Superman so he could destroy the earth. At one point Dr. Zod thinks he knows how to defeat Superman because he's discovered his weakness: he actually cares about the people of earth. He thought he could use that as leverage to get Superman to swear his allegiance to Dr. Zod. (I still remember the woman working with Dr. Zod saying about Superman, "Ha! Sentimental fool!") The Republicans are Dr. Zod, using people who need affordable healthcare and will get sick and die without it to get the Democrats, who actually care about the people who need affordable healthcare, to swear an allegiance to them and their sick, rapacious agenda. We'll see if the Democrats can win by throwing the Republicans down the crevice, or whatever that gaping hole was.

  39. For the reasons Chas said, I think trading Skubal when we are in the position we are in is malpractice.
    1 point
  40. You summarized my feelings completely. This isn't about trading hurting our future by raiding the top 3 farm system for 2026. This is about keeping the momentum going, knowing the future isn't lost if (more likely when) Skubal leaves for draft pick compensation as we have one of the top farm systems in the game. As you said, trading Skubal sends a message to the current guys and current and prospective FA's that when given a legitimate opportunity to compete for a championship, we are going to punt it for the future out of fear we will lose the best pitcher in the game the next season. It also shows them that we aren't even willing to try and keep him. I do think the Tigers will make Skubal a legitimate offer in FA. I think it is 99% likely another team makes an offer considerably higher that would make no sense to match. But if the Tigers make an offer that would make Skubal the highest paid pitcher both by AAV and total $, players will know they are willing to try. And players would understand IMO. Just like their pursuit of Bregman last year. Trading Skubal would all but guarantee the Tigers would be only getting FA's who need to rebuild their value, and that once homegrown players reach FA, if they are any good, they are likely gone. Like Jason_R said, this isn't a spreadsheet or a SIM league.

  41. They're sitting around waiting for the sweet moment when all the well-off white liberals who AI determines probably did not vote for Trump are dispossessed of their entire assets, first to pay for their own arrest, transport, incarceration and the disposal of their bodies once they're finished with, with the remainder to be disbursed among the MAGA elites afterwards. Don't think it could ever happen? History disagrees.

  42. One of the biggest black marks on the history of the United States was our unlawful and immoral invasion of Iraq. **** Cheney deserved to die in a prison cell in the Hauge for the war crimes he and George DubyaMD Bush committed. The War in Iraq itself was a war crime, based on fabricated and doctored intelligence. Over 4,000 American servicemembers and some 200,000 Iraqi civilians needlessly died all so an oil company Cheney was affiliated with could get no-bid contracts and access to. And Bush could feel like he got revenge for Saddam attempting to kill his father. A war of greed and revenge that stole the lives of far too many human beings. On top of that, you have a President and Vice President who condone the practice of torture on human beings. From waterboarding to hooding to rape to the use of aggressive dogs towards human beings, the Bush Administration authorized the use of torture. These techniques yielded little reliable intelligence that they were intended to get and left a stain on America's image around the world. I am not a religious person and don't believe in a heaven or hell. Were they to exist though, I can tell you where **** Cheney belongs. The world would have been a better place had Cheney never been Vice President and George Bush President. Sadly, that was not how history played out. In the end, an evil man died at peace in his home.
