I don't think it's that.... I think they're just being assholes in general. "They" did something different so we have to change it back because whatever reason they had for doing it was "woke". They would cut their own dicks off if it "owned the libs". That's how stupid and deranged these people are now.5 points

I really don't see much evidence that the team performance of the last two years is all because of Harris. I expect to see more evidence at the MLB level of Harrises influence soon, but I have not seen it yet.4 points

The rumor hasn't been picked up more probably because the Pinafore guy behind it is a nobody and Sports Illustrated is an AI slop farm that bears no resemblance to its former self.3 points

Correlation does not prove causation and saying phrases like "I have no words" is not not a persuasive argument either. I see Hinch and Fetter having an impact at the major league level. I don't see Harris having as much of an impact at that level, at least not yet. The Tigers would not be doing what they have done the last two years without the players, manager and pitching coach which Avila provided. Avila was terrible, but when you collect prospects for long enough (way too long in his case) you can build up a good base of talent.2 points

It counts for Harbaugh when it's convenient to count for Harbaugh and counts for Moore when it's convenient to count for Moore. What's confusing?2 points

It's always been my opinion that Avila knew what needed to be done - he knew where DD had let things atrophy. All the things he talked about were basically all the same things Harris talks about, but he wasn't that up to speed himself when he started, and he brought insufficient creativity and urgency to the task. But the one thing we never give Al any benefit of the doubt about is that you don't just start firing people willy-nilly in the Ilitch organization. Some of the inertia could have been coming from ownership unwilling to dump loyal employees abruptly. Now without doubt, he was a disaster at trades. No need to cut him any slack there.2 points

It's pretty clear based on industry consensus from myriad articles that the Tigers were way behind on Player Dev at a time it was really taking off in the industry. The turnaround started when Garko took over for Littlefield, and went into overdrive when Harris took over.2 points

And then he turned down the heat in the White House and wore sweaters himself.2 points

How many houses does grandpa Trump own? Does he do this rant with his grandchildren I’m old enough when people revolted against Carter when he told us to wear a sweater instead of turning up the heat2 points

At the risk of drawing more fire on this point, a key reason I would like to re-sign him is that it would send a signal to the market that we are committing to winning, although that might help us a lot more this offseason than next.2 points

This kind of fits here or maybe in the investment thread. Topic of conversation on a local FB page about a potential data center around Cornhole somewhere. Good conversation so far but it is FB so that won't last long. It gave me a thought, and some/many here may be too young to remember this. AI generated via Twitter Grok. Used that for an image before and like the results, but not this time. Went back and forth for a bit and still not happy, but it works. Pujols was moved, Cabrera was moved, Verlander was moved, Bryce Harper was moved, Soto was moved, Sale was moved, Ohtani was moved. It's hardly a Detroit thing. You can blame the teams but it's mostly a system that is cooked into the CBA.2 points

I haven’t watched any interviews, but when I read where Harris said “no one is untouchable“ and that he’s willing to “listen” this means the organization is not desperate, that they’re not panicking, and they will not be easy prey and it’s going to take quite a bit to pry anything loose of substance from the club. It’s his way of dealing from strength instead of weakness regardless of optics. Of course I’m an inveterate optimist and I like reading the most positive intent into things.2 points

there's a critique in there about feminism, the legal process we allow to rule our lives, and how changes in the law post 1968 have altered american life... but i'm too focused on michigan's head coach to make it.1 point

That is wild. I wonder if they knew before signing day, if so - thats shameful. These rumors started on November 30th. Crazy how message board rumors end up being true sometimes. Also, did Warde Manuel just call an unborn child "credible evidence"?1 point

I don't think the answer is so cut and dry and doesn't have to be an either/or. I'm willing to concede that Avila was smart enough to know what he didn't know and knew what had to be done and got people here to lay the foundation. There's a lot that goes into an organization's baseball operations. It's not just the draft picks and free agent signings, or even the manager and coaches. I do give Harris a lot of credit for this team's success. But I also believe that it would have been impossible to achieve that without some things Avila put in place (hint: It's not just players). There's no shame in understanding that to fully take advantage of what's there you need someone else to come in and take over and build on it, subtract from it, and pull from it. You can hire all the right people but do you know how to put it all together? What assignments to give? You can say that Harris is doing great but that Al wasn't as bad as the results during his tenure indicate.1 point

This makes sense if all development is a random crapshoot and past performance is zero indication of actual ability. But based on the track record available to us, it is safe to assume that when it comes to developing players, Al Avila did not know what he was doing, and Scott Harris does.1 point

I just went to ChatGPT and asked about the possibility of using TeSlaa at the Tight End position. I was informed he was an offensive lineman. Now I understand why he hasn't see much playing time. I should have followed up whether he could be used at center1 point

Also saying who was GM at the time they were drafted completely ignores the most important part of credit: how they were developed. You can be a great grocery shopper, but the food is going to suck if you aren't a good cook. In this analogy, Avila was slow to learn how to cook and had Dave Littlefield as the chef and he was searing with non-stick and being careless with raw meat, but bought some nifty appliances he didn't know how to use at the end. They brought in Harris who knew how to use them and was able to make some banger meals.1 point

it appeared to be hot, he probably knew he was sweating, which is always a bad look on camera, and it was quite noisey, which may have distracting. The text was almost verbatim what he has already rehearsed multiple times locally, so it wasn't like he was having to think much about what he wanted to say, only getting it said. It may have seemed worse exactly because we have already heard him give the same pitch under better conditions.1 point

The best way to woo fans is to put a winner on the field, and Scott Harris has done that in two of his first three years after inheriting an organization that got flattened by a hurricane.1 point

Realistically... how many more years of CY caliber performance does he have left? He's already won 2 in a row. Do you think he's a Max/JV type or a Corey Kluber/David Price type? I say ride him out next year and make a fair offer and if he goes, he goes. God Bless and thank you. This org, if they are as good as they say, should be able to produce what Tarik Skubal would be by the time he's 32 ro 33. Do you really think at that age he's going to be as good as he is now?1 point

How would bumping up the payroll a bit, still well below luxury land, sacrifice 2027 and beyond? Only Keith is on the books after 2027. While you have an elite SP I think it does make sense to push more chips in. Sign a top closer. Sign King. Improve the 2026 odds.1 point

“In 2023, Secretary of State Antony Blinken ordered the typeface change to Calibri to improve accessibility for readers with disabilities, such as low vision and dyslexia, and people who use assistive technologies, such as screen readers. While this is very low on the list of bad things these douches have done, it’s just emblematic of where the pettiness and gross nature of them is the main feature.1 point

I don’t get where this is coming from. We don’t know anything yet. All this speculation about what Harris wants to do, but we really don’t know. We don’t know if they are trying to sign Skubal, plan to, if Skubal is receptive or willing to forego free agency. We don’t know if Ilitch will be cheap this offseason or if it will be Harris’ call not to spend on a big free agent. We don’t know if big free agents will shun us if given the chance. We don’t know if any prospects will get traded or are preventing us from signing or trading for someone. We can’t say “seems” or anything more conclusive. It’s Tuesday of the Winter Meetings. Few players have moved and the offseason has months left. Let’s check back in mid-February. In the meantime, it’s fun to speculate about things that no one, outside of Harris and his Gerk Squad, knows.1 point

I don't agree with this notion to "go all in" this year because of this supposed window. If you sacrifice 2027-on, you are dooming yourself to be hurt even more if he walks. The team should be a in a good spot to return to the postseason this year, and have the best position player prospect they have had in my lifetime knocking on the door.1 point

So, it seems like the Tigers may be following the Tampa Rays model as some of us suspected all along. It has worked out reasonably well for Tampa but that kind of constant roster turnover is not appealing to me. I guess it will be somewhat like following a college team which has constant turnover through player graduation.1 point
