  1. The retort that one suspects would come from the MAGA types is that changes in the Trump tax bill to EV credits and other incentives toward green energy will take time to develop and be seen in the marketplace, which means that over time more people may again rely on fossil fuel production. The problem with that logic is that the rest of the world isn't going to react in the same way, the trends toward EV usage will inevitably continue in the EU/China/etc. Which will continue to impact the global demand for oil (by reducing it). The administration and MAGA at-large can whine and cry and vice signal about green energy all they want... it isn't going to stop it from becoming more and more of a reality as time goes on. We can either act like we are in the 21st Century and try to continue to create an economy for it domestically, or we can further cede the playing field to others (ie. China) to our economic detriment. The administration is choosing the latter to all of our detriment. One additional point regarding Venezuelan oil - how does this administration plan to exploit Venezuelan oil reserves without American boots on the ground?

  3. If Kevin Stefanski somehow doesn't land another coaching job, he's got to be at the top of our list for OC. I know the Browns offense was terrible, but that falls on the lack of talent on the field more than it does Stefanski's play calling or coaching IMO. When your QB room is Dillion Gabriel, Shedeur Sanders, and Kenny Pickett that's just not going to win anyone, any amount of games.

  6. I don’t know how I missed this thread discussion about Ernie and Feliciano. I was there at the fifth game of the World Series in 1968 when José Feliciano sang his version of the Star-Spangled Banner and by my recollection, people in the third base box seats where I was sitting were more stunned than angry about it. When I got home and became aware of the news regarding it, I was really perplexed. It makes me love Ernie even more.

  7. For more context. World wide EV production is somewhere near 20M vehicles/yr. Even if we assume a conservative 5K miles/yr driven, that works out very roughly to 334,000 bbl/day of gasoline saved, which is about 500K bbls/day of oil saved - which is the output of 2 fairly large refineries - subtracted each year going forward. The world is awash in oil and the biggest market for oil is going in the other direction. According to Google, the real price of oil is sitting pretty close to the overall average number since 1946 ($58.07)

  8. I think I probably posted upthread that there are certainly particular refiners that have some investment in heavy crude capacity on the Gulf Coast that they'd rather see making a better return, and certainly if they have any brains they've tried to get Trump's ear, but that doesn't rise to any kind of significant US economic or security interest. So 'oil' as a real US national interest - no. But 'oil' considered as just another Trump grift - sure. And after all, to circle back 360 to the 'reality TV president' idea, reality TV is really just one big grift by the entertainment industry. So there you are. 📺💣🎇

  11. ivey, harris, and multiple firsts should be value for him but you dont know what others are offering. hawks have more ammo. i think the spurs do too, but trading picks is not their MO. The thunder have the most ammo (which is hilarious) but probably wont move it for murphy considering their roster and upcoming salary crunch. weaver drafted ivey too, so he kight value him more than others. and ivey could be a good buy low candidate whose extension might not cost as much after this year.

  15. Vegas is expecting some mostly close games. Saturday 4:30pm: Rams -10 @ Panthers Saturday 8:00pm: Packers +1.5 @ Bears Sunday 1:00pm: Bills -1.5 @ Jaguars Sunday 4:30pm: 49ers +4.5 @ Eagles Sunday 8:00pm: Chargers +3.5 @ Patriots Monday 8:00pm: Steelers +3 @ Texans I'm surprised by the Eagles/49ers spread. Philly has played five playoff teams since October and gone 2-3, scoring an average of 15 points per game. Hard to win by 5+ when you can't break 20. I also think the Panthers cover. Did people forget they beat the Rams like a month ago? Bills/Jaguars is a sneaky pick to be the game of the weekend, . Rams over Panthers, 34-31 Packers over Bears, 17-13 Bills over Jaguars, 33-30 (OT) 49ers over Eagles, 20-10 Patriots over Chargers, 31-23 Texans over Steelers, 24-9

  16. I’ve said this a thousand times. The two biggest barriers to inclusion in minor hockey are time and money, both of which you need exorbitant amounts of now. Rec/house leagues are disappearing in favour of travel teams and later academies. It’s so messed up

  21. If I can trust ChatGPT, Hendrix had done shorter versions of SSB before but not with all the effects. He claimed it was spontaneous. He was performing late Sunday night, early Monday morning after many of the concert goers had made their way out. He was also not performing with his regular band at the time, but with a transitional group he had put together. SSB was also at the end of improvisation after Voodoo Child, and he said it wasn't planned, just came in the moment

  28. Caught this at M-Live: Cossa’s career-high saves helps Griffins extend points streak Published: Jan. 03, 2026, 10:54 a.m. By Ansar Khan | akhan1@mlive.com Sebastian Cossa recorded a career-high 47 saves and stopped both shooters in the shootout Friday to lead the Grand Rapids Griffins to a 3-2 victory over the Chicago Wolves at Van Andel Arena. The Griffins’ 27-1-1-1 record, good for 56 points, is the best in the AHL history through 30 games. They extended their points streak to 17 games, the third-longest in franchise history. John Leonard and Dominik Shine scored in the shootout. Cossa, the AHL’s goaltender of the month for November and December, improved to 15-1-1. Antti Tuomisto tied the game at 2-2 with 2:14 remaining in regulation with his career-high sixth goal. Michael Brandsegg-Nygard opened the scoring at 14:34 of the first period with his eighth goal of the season and extended his points streak to six games. The Griffins are 20-0 when scoring first. The teams meet again tonight in Chicago (8 p.m.). (Postava won this game too (his first game in two months0 to extend the Griffins streak to 17-0-1… (not 47 saves plus two shootout saves though…)).

  29. I'm really bummed to hear that. Pat would drive me crazy in recent years with his weird off-the-wall takes, it was like he had taken a page from Valenti's book inexplicably. But his voice was unmatched. You knew who you were listening to when you turned on the station and he was (and is) a voice of Detroit sports, in the same way Ernie, Ken Kal, and Dan Miller are. His institutional knowledge of local sports was also unparalleled. In his heyday, he could tell you the kicker's names at both Warren Mott and Waterford Mott, and which one would be more reliable from 40 yards out.

  30. For what exactly? For this: To capture the news cycle for a couple of days. That's it, and all of it. Nothing Trump does is focused on *accomplishment*, rather strictly on the appearance of accomplishment. This is reality TV government: Invent a story line, generate a lot of noise and smoke, charge up emotions, run in a lot of circles, break a bunch of china, and at the end of the day....nothing real has happened. Stay tuned for the next episode of 'Real Presidents of DC!" As noted, the Vz government is still there, no fundamental change but suddenly there will be no crisis between the US and Vz, because there never was in the first place - it was just more noise being generated by Trump on his way to his next media presentation episode. You grabbed a tin pot and put him in jail at the cost of several billion in ordinance - oh and BTW, there was some 'collateral damage' on the gound. Well, no-one we knew and BFD about Maduro. Just like nothing has changed in Ukraine and nothing has changed for the Palestinians or Israelis after he heroically 'solved' all their problems. Argue with China, settle with China, argue with China, US industrial production is still being displaced and farmers are only worse off. 6 months of headlines from DOGE, hire back most of the workers and the government is hemorrhaging more money than ever. Trump runs around, makes a lot of noise, makes a lot of pronouncements about actions, then, Cut! He's on to the next sound stage and nothing has actually been accomplished. The actors who were on the set before he got there are left to sort it out for themselves just like they were before he got there You only know he's been there by the bill he leaves for his expenses.

  32. The Lions were a 15 win team who had most of their defense coming back healthy. They didn’t need many upgrades. Ragnow hadn’t retired. Holmes could have went into 2025 with the two guys he drafted, Arnold and Rakestraw, as CB one and two. Instead, he signed the top corner available. Context matters. Zeitler is only a marginal improvement over Ratledge. The fact you think Zeitler could elevate a 9 win team to a Super Bowl is laughable.
