  1. It's going to take years for the divide to close-if it ever does. There are people in my own family who I think I'll never be able to trust or respect again.

  3. If we want more Jarrett Stidhams playing in the AFC Championship Game, keep expanding the schedule. I'm sure they will go to 18 within the next three years, because the money demands it. But there has to be a stopping point or the playoffs will become the Morgue Bowl and the champion will become purely who stayed healthy the longest or got healthy the soonest. An international game per team would at least add some fairness, instead of one team flying from London to play another that got 10 days off. I also think they desperately need a second bye week per team. If they add an international game per team, maybe it can coincide with the week after that trip.

  4. Morton was a different situation though. Whether through wishful thinking or laziness they seemed to think they could plug in a guy who had been in the building and maintain continuity. He had never called plays so there was no independent track record to evaluate him on. At least this time they did enough due diligence to decide that Petzing was a better candidate than the consensus best OC candidate on the market.

  11. Learned about that during our trip this Fall. I knew about the explosion and was reminded about the hospitality to US travelers on 9/11. The Christmas Tree is really a big deal in that part of Nova Scotia. There is a big Festival around the selection and the cutting of the tree. The Canadians take pride in their heritage, both the good and the bad. Learned a bit about the expulsion of French Residents during the French and Indian War. Interestingly a lot made their way to Louisiana and are responsible for the Cajun culture

  12. Of all the Holmes picks, Vaki is the most questionable. He spent a fourth on him, and traded up adding a 6th and a 2024 and 2025 fourth.. He isn't fast enough to be a safety, so he is a RB. He had 42 total carries at Utah. He has been, when healthy, the fourth option at RB. I wouldn't count on him to be more than a RB3 on reliability alone. I guess if you like a guy you take him but trading up wasn't a good idea. Kind of a nitpick in Holmes draft record, but they could have used actual depth at positions they needed like safety or TE.

  13. Ever since 1919, Halifax has provided Boston with its Christmas tree as a thank you for their aid that year. And Canadian tourists are definitely a big part of New England's summer economy. I think it would be hard to find a better neighbor than Canada.

  15. I often thought there was a conspiracy. I'd finish the driveway and 10 minutes later the county would come by and block the entrance. There are reports that we may get a lot of snow here this weekend. Something akin to some of the snowfalls in the mid to late 70s. Thankfully I have a small driveway, but for the first time in over 5 years I'm missing my snowblower

  16. Not going after you, but tweets like these drive me bonkers and are all too common in the Elon Blue Check era. Screengrab roster resource and collect from the clicks. Doesn't add anything and takes away from a good site that could start struggling again if enough of these accounts keep doing this.

  18. 18 games is inevitable. I don’t like it but the owners didn’t ask me. They would have to add a second bye week, and probably increase roster size.

  20. Sounds like one of my cousins. From the sounds of it, extreme news 'sources' like Newsmax and InfoWars, especially when not mixed up with more moderate sources, have been a major influence. Another cousin has determined that all of his hard times were caused by Biden, as well is 'illegals.' Both of them think that Biden is the one who stole billions, and either seem oblivious to the stealing in the current regime, or feel like it's justified. I. don't. understand.

  24. I think the fan base and frankly the organization for some reason aren’t really behind Mize. I chalk it up to being a 1st pick and underperforming expectations as well as injuries. Tork I think gets under appreciated as well for that same 1st pick reason. Me personally I think Mize is a good 2/3 type pitcher who a good team should win the majority of his starts he just isn’t going to dominate another team very often.

  28. I mean, what is it? He didn't talk to the Press? Is that all this is? I never heard he was rude about it. Some guys just don't have anything to share. Jim Rice is in. He never became a manager because of the whole Press thing, but he's in. I just don't get it. It will always be a crime that Lou & Alan are not together.

  31. Kent was a worse choice than Jones. Jones was questionnable and I wouldn't put him in, but he is perhaps the best defensive outfielder ever - better defensive numbers than Mays. So, at least he's got that. Kent played the same position as Whitaker and was 20 wins behind him in WAR.

  35. The fact that McDaniel went to an OC position raises the stakes on Detroit’s decision not to pursue him. I feel cautiously optimistic about Petzing but I find it hard to believe that McDaniel would have been anything less than a home run, even if he was packing his bags for a HC role in 2027.

  37. There is always something that can be done - while you can't physically remove the politicians, there are numerous other ways to demonstrate your objection. Fascists (and bullies) count on the bulk of the populace apathetic to what's happening, because 'there's nothing I can do', or 'doesn't affect me, I don't live in that state'. A couple of examples: - Spend your money on local establishments, boycotting corporations / oligarchs that have offered bribes to the current administration. No ordering from Amazon, cancelling subscriptions to Apple+ etc. - Refuse to provide any political donations, to either party, until they grow a spine and take action, and telling them that on their email request. - Attend town halls (even if your rep is a Dem) and demand more vocal and visual opposition - Find ways of supporting target communities. If you have a neighbor who's scared of going to the grocery store, offer to do their shopping for them - if you have the ability to assist / shelter someone who's fleeing perceived persecution in another state (such as trans/LGBTQ people), then find a way to do so. - Publicly shun open supporters of this administration. If you get a group chat invite to a Trumper's place for the Super Bowl, reply all with a message like "Sorry, plan on watching the game with people who don't support racist assholes" Lots more examples - but as can be seen in Minnesota, fascism/authoritarianism struggles when confronted with active resistance. Being visible and vocal in your displeasure gives freedom for others to voice their displeasure - because they know they aren't alone.

  43. To me, the greatest play in my Pistons memory is Tayshaun's block. That was breathtaking and it saved the game. For me it was a jump out of the recliner and scream thing. Not as big, but more exciting than Vinny's 00.7 shot - and that won a title.

  44. This incredibly impressive 2-year turnaround cotinued. We keep waiting for the floor to dropout, don't we? Like it's not real. But the Knicks were chasing them and played them and the Pistons dismantled them. Now the Celtics are chasing them and they went toe-to-toe and beat them too. Please do something to make this team a little better at the deadline. They've been great. JB Bickerstaff is a great coach, who has not yet worn thin (it will happen eventually, it always does). There are a number of players out there that could help this team get even better. Please don't be like all our other teams and basically sit out the trade deadline. Please no Charlie Morton-types. Go get someone good. F The Draft Picks. You've got a young team already and a stacked bench, you can afford to sacrifice a little future capital - because you could win the whole thing right now. The whole thing. OKC and San Antonio be warned, The Pistons will be no cakewalk. You'll need to toughen up.

  46. The NFL doesn't really have a cap, it has a budget the teams must spend on players, if they end up under budget on salaries, they have to make it up in payments to the NLFPA but they have to be within about 90% in direct player payments. So on every team, the players get the the negotiated cut of the team revenue. It's not really a cap or a floor, it's the player piece of team revenue. That is pretty close to an ideal construct for a sports league. MLB can't get anywhere near there for dozens of reasons, but the 1st prerequisite to moving toward balanced team salary is balanced team revenue. Taking about caps and floors seems pretty pointless to me when it doesn't address the fundamental issue, which is team income inequality. Only movement in that direction, even if incremental, begins to rationalize the MLB system. As Buddha pointed out, a cap added to any thing like the current system (i.e.absent real structural revenue reform) simply benefits the richest teams even more. I suppose you could say that if they institute a meaningful floor, that means they have to institute some additional revenue sharing, otherwise a meaningful floor is an impossibility. But that is exactly why a meaningful floor is really unlikely!
