  1. I don't care who that sender is, it could be Trump himself, Bill Clinton, Bernie Sanders, or any other wealthy person or powerful politician. An email like that raises a ton of alarm bells. That needs to be thoroughly investigated and looked into, regardless of who the sender is.

  2. I had few run-ins with Mickey Lolich over the years... I grew up in the Rochester/Lake Orion area, so I remember his donut shops in both downtown Rochester and later in Lake Orion, which was right by my childhood church. One time when I was little, I was having dinner with my parents in Lake Orion at a restaurant called The Orion House and Mickey was there with his family. He got up and left his table, so my younger self followed after him hoping for an autograph. Not knowing any better, I followed him into the bathroom but quickly retreated back to my table once I realized what I had done. Mickey on his way back to his table, stopped by and signed an autograph for me (I still have it), and thanked me for allowing him some privacy. I was young, but still felt embarrassed... My parents still razz me about that to this day. When my older sister was in High School, she did a project for school about Mickey and was able to interview him at his donut shop. He didn't have to do that, but was happy to help her out. I remember listening to the tape she had with his interview over and over. Most recently, Mickey shared a common wall with my mother-in-law at an assisted living facility... My MIL moved from there in early 2025 and passed away a few months later at another facilty, but for about a year (2024) she lived just on the other side of the wall from someone she cheered on during the 68 World Series and for years after. Unfortunately for her (and probably fortunate for him 🙂), she wasn't with it enough to probably realize he was there. My wife ran into him on an occasion or two, and often saw his wife there visiting him. Lots of fun memories of him. I wish his family well in these times...

  7. JB tries to throw this one away again by benching the defensive player of the month and the best perimeter defender in the league for most of the critical 4th quarter minutes. The guy is +9 (second only to Cade), got you 5 extra possessions, and had Murray in jail most of the night yet JB thinks that making the offense marginally better (theoretically) is more important than stopping the opponents clutch player and getting easy buckets from transition and put backs even though every stat shows otherwise. The only person surprised that Murray went on a scoring run when Ausar was on the bench was JB...once again. This is getting really tiresome. I'm glad one of the reporters asked JB about it after the game. His answer was terrible, but at least someone asked.

  10. Yup. It's should be pretty obvious to anyone who has their eyes open, but the population is economically illiterate. The idea that capitalism is a real thing with moving parts and good and bad properties and sets of predictable outcomes is miles over the head of the average American who is conditioned to never think about these things in more than misty 10sec slogan sound bites. And there are billions of dollars being spent in every political cycle to create enough confusion to make sure the public stays just as ignorant as it is now. So we reach a point where even Joe 6 pack has realized the system is failing him, but he doesn't know why or how or what should be done about it. So you end up with a lot of very mad but very gullible voters.

  11. I'm hoping the Tigers put their games on a station that charges money but presents a scrambled flickering screen that you can fix if you become adept at fiddling with the horizontal-vertical knobs. Maybe air some soft-core nudity when the Tigers and Red Wings have the day off. Like IT-tv and ON-tv around 1980.

  14. Trump isn't stupid, but he is ignorant. We tend to assume the later always implies the former, but not with Trump. Trump is ignorant because not because he is stupid but because he has a closed mind. Snapped shut somewhere around 1972 and he's still there.

  18. this was the only decision the court could reach after Tx, but it's still both tragic and a tribute to the ability of lawyers to lose the forest for the trees that we have a Supreme court that thinks redistricting is OK if it's purely to manipulate election results instead of seeing it as the clear violation of one-man/one-vote that it is.

  20. What you do need to watch out for... ESPN games are random nights, but are exclusive so won't be on MLB.TV (or they may be with a cable subscription with ESPN). Peacock has a bunch of games. Those won't be on MLB.TV. The first round of the playoffs is also on Peacock. There are still Friday Apple games. Probably 4-6 Tigers games there. I don't think Fox or TBS regular season games are exclusive.

  21. In the summer of 2018 we should have offered five 1st rounders for Mitch Marner or Auston Matthews. Svechnikov, Cholowski, Rasmussen, Zadina and Veleno.

  22. You won't. This only affects in market folks. Basically, it will either be another local channel in syndication for a bit or a non-blacked out local streaming subscription tacked onto MLB.TV. Out of market is the same.

  23. At age 16 and having spent half my life rooting for the Tigers when they won in 68 baseball did as much for me as it ever could, and I moved on for many years. Losing Mickey is painful and when Willie Horton goes, damn I’ll be a puddle.

  27. Bezos is making the same mistake at the Post that he is making at Blue Origin, which is trying to run them like Amazon. At Amazon - the bulk of the workforce are commodity. Amazon doesn't need them for who they are, it really does only need their bodies. While that management system - as bad as it is, may work there, isn't going to work for journalism or high tech manufacturing, because those are places where you do need people exactly for who they are - which means that while you can can get away with pitting workers against each other in a warehouse, you cannot in a fundamentally collegial place like a newsroom or a necessarily deeply cooperative one like cutting edge engineering (he has a forced attrition program in place at Blue Origin). Your develop process is going to grind to a halt when every engineer is trying to steal every other guys glory and no-one trusts or will share anything with anyone. Jacques Nasser pretty well proved this at FoMoCo years ago, but the guys like Bezos just don't want to believe it because their ego doesn't let them admit they don't have the only brain that matters.

  32. so many marginal players are setting offensive records this year, you wonder if there's a universal theme like, i don't know, NO ONE PLAYS ANY DEFENSE ANY MORE.

  33. you already know the answer. the faced this same team without jokic and barely won. a win is a win, and everyone makes a run in nba regular season games, but we all know this team is flawed. and we all know the cure. its just difficult to get the right medicine.

  37. Zero interest in Coby White. I wanted Ayo in the deal, not because I wanted him to be a starter, but because he can hit the three and play some defense. We don't have any of those, not even mediocre ones, and we need to start upgrading our 1-way players to 2-way players.

  39. We've cut taxes on the wealthy in this country for decades and it's driven us straight into the economic toilet. The data is clear, tax cuts for wealthy people don't trickle down and manifest into economic growth for the rest of us. they only increase income inequality and lower the standard of living for everyone else.

  41. I am correcting an error in my previous post. Apparently, as of the 2022 CBA, minor league players are part of the MLBPA. Starting in 2023 minor league players started to receive retirements for the first time. I would applaud any efforts in the 2027 CBA to further spread the wealth across all professional baseball players.

  42. I read James Harden's name on the trade block. I read the Cavs might get him. Go ahead. He's got all of these individual awards and scoring titles, but the one thing he does not have is a ring - because he's so one-sided. He doesn't even TRY to play defense. The thing about the Pistons is that the whole team plays intense defense. Nobody really takes time off from it. Harden would be a terrible fit here, but I'm not sure he would be great for Cleveland either. James Harden is like junk food. Empty Calories.

  44. Why do I feel lousy every weekend? Because I don't HAVE to go to work? I love my job. I really really do. I look forward to doing it. I look forward to going into work. Now, if there is a snowstorm, I have the work at home option, sure, but I like going to work. Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life. The only real gripe I have about it is the distance. It's about 25 miles each way. Might not be much for you, but I wish I lived closer (but the house I am in is paid for, and even if I sold it, I'm not coming close to buying a house in Washtenaw County). But this is the third straight weekend that I have felt sick and lethargic. I know it might have to do with it being 11 degrees outside and I haven't been able to do a lot. I could try the Dearborn gym, but still having mild vertigo from the ear thing. I think it's because I don't have to get any work done and my body is punishing me for it. I am way, way ahead on things too. I bet if it was 40 and Sunny I'd be alright. Just imagine how good that day is gonna feel now. Accuweather doesn't have us getting above freezing until February 26th. Maybe I should take a weed gummy and watch some Brady Bunch reruns. It never rained once on that show. Not once. It rained on The Partridge Family. They got stuck on the road because of rain washing out a bridge or something - so they lived in a motel for several days and drove each other crazy. Might have been the first time Danny Bonaduce brought a prostitute to a motel. Wouldn't be the last. Here we go https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0798182/
