  8. I was at Tigers Fantasy Camp, either 2007 or 2008, and Johnny Grubb hit the highest pop-fly I ever tried to catch. I got under it okay, but somehow it glanced off the webbing of the glove and conked me right in the coconut. Hope I don't get ALS from it.

  9. OMG! I have unhooked from the wicked hive mind of this crumbling civilization all morning, and I discover that JV is coming home. Being superstitious I think perhaps I should withdraw from the hive mind more often…

  10. Wow, another Tigers signing I didn't hear about until I stepped into motwnforums. If they had just signed Verlander without signing Valdez, I would have considered it a lazy move. However, signing Valdez as the #2 and Verlander as a bottom of rotation guy is perfect.

  12. Agree about Stew. Duren was fine at that point and Bridges had a good 5 or 6 people holding him back by the time Stew engaged. Silly suspension to take.

  18. Run? No, running is a distant memory for me. The last time I tried to run was around 2016 when walking my Golden Retreiver and when I told her to "get that squirrel." I did a face plant. 😅

  19. Maybe I generalized too much. But most of what I saw here, callers/texters on 97.1, posts on Reddit and social media, seemed to give a sense of fans being underwhelmed with the offseason moves up until the Valdez signing. In any case, no one should feel that way now. Harris and Ilitch have been aggressive over the last week and actively working to upgrade the talent on this roster.

  20. You were whelmed and excited for Drew Anderson and Kenley Jansen as moves that would have put them over the top in the AL? Because the sentiment around here and with a lot of fans in general seemed to be one of an underwhelming mindset. Feel how you want to feel though. If Anderson and Jansen moved the needle for you then great. Valdez and Verlander are big time moves that give me clear optimism for winning this division now and being a top 2-3 team in the AL in a way the prior moves did not.

  23. He hit 99 home runs in his career. They need to bring him back...chase for 100. It'll be just like watching Cabrera try to hit #500. Kind of.

  24. I am in the camp of Olson, maybe not being hurt still, but the team believing that he's not durable enough for a full season and also that they really are going to monitor Melton's innings. I kind of have mixed feelings on Melton. Because if the issue is that they think he's going to need TJ surgery (a rite of passage for MLB pitchers now), to just go ahead and get it done now and maybe he's ready to be tip top in 2028, when baseball returns after the lost year in 2027. Verlander is insurance for that. I am sure they told him that he's not promised one of the five slots. Or maybe - just maybe - the Tigers are going to a 6-man rotation at some point. I didn't expect this. I actually did last year. I guess he's pretty stoked about this. A return to the Halcyon days of his prime. Let's win this all and if Skubal walks, who cares?

  25. I'm hoping they can sign Tom Brookens and Johnny Grubb for the upcoming season. Those guys never got their retirement tour.

  26. JV was good the final two months of the season so hopefully that carries over. His first start at Comerica is going to be huge, right up there with the hype usually reserved for opening day and playoff games.

  28. 13 million. Yikes. That's a lot for a guy who will be hurt half the season and get shelled in half the games he pitches in. Might as well have brought back Paddack and Morton And they lowballed Skubal at 19 million.

  29. Besides retiring as a Tiger, what makes this such a good signing in my view is that we already had arguably the best rotation in the league, so it's not as though this is a desperation signing hoping against hope he can save us. As things stand JV probably won't even make the rotation out of camp, but he could certainly fill the Rafael Montero role when we need a sixth starter. Chances are he will not be much better than league average, but man, wouldn't a league average sixth guy be a great thing to have in our back pocket when we need him. The other thing that makes it so great is that this is a signing for the fans. Not only for the fans—we will expect a positive contribution out of him, as he will out of himself—but this signing is practically Chris Ilitch and Scott Harris sending us a Valentine. That Park is gonna be rocking right out of the gate. April in the mother****in' D, bitches! 😃

  34. They def leaned into each other with their heads...I'm sorry, but Stew has to be smarter than that..you can't leave the bench like that. It's not Duren had anything to worry about from Bridges at that point. Duren should have been smarter too..he escalated it beyond the head butts.

  37. I think the biggest thing is that fish does not keep, and Americans are used to meat meaning beef, which you can leave thawed in a fridge for a week and still be perfectly fine. Once a piece of frozen fish thaws you literally have minutes to start cooking it if you want to preserve its quality. And then you have the insane practice of American grocers that receive their fish frozen (as virtually all fish is shipped frozen) and then thaw it out to sell it to buyers that take it home and freeze it again. By the second thaw you might as well toss it as it probably already stinks.

  38. I’m surprised it took Trump this long to jump on that. It has all the elements to portray it negatively to the willfully ignorant and uninformed. “They keep all the money”. Back then it could be sold as “didn’t cost us a thing. Ain’t it beautiful “. Now you reverse it. “We get nothing”. A perfect situation for his ignorant supporters who are repulsed by knowledge and facts. The entire movement tries on misinformation and lies.

  40. Back in 1984 I lived in the country. We were almost off the grid. Only electric. But I had a TV tower when I bought the house, no antenna. So I put one up. No rotor, we were dirt poor. I could aim it toward Detroit and the Tiger games. The wind would move it and I would have to climb 30 foot up this thing and adjust it while my kids yelled at me from the window by the TV - a little more that way, no, too far. I wouldn't trade it for the world. 84... Great year was it not? Had number 3 son born that year (in October no less). His middle name is Allen, after Mr. Trammell.
