  8. I was at Tigers Fantasy Camp, either 2007 or 2008, and Johnny Grubb hit the highest pop-fly I ever tried to catch. I got under it okay, but somehow it glanced off the webbing of the glove and conked me right in the coconut. Hope I don't get ALS from it.

  9. OMG! I have unhooked from the wicked hive mind of this crumbling civilization all morning, and I discover that JV is coming home. Being superstitious I think perhaps I should withdraw from the hive mind more often…

  10. Wow, another Tigers signing I didn't hear about until I stepped into motwnforums. If they had just signed Verlander without signing Valdez, I would have considered it a lazy move. However, signing Valdez as the #2 and Verlander as a bottom of rotation guy is perfect.

  12. Agree about Stew. Duren was fine at that point and Bridges had a good 5 or 6 people holding him back by the time Stew engaged. Silly suspension to take.

  15. Don't get on a ladder. 🙂 For those not old enough, once you get to a certain point in life, the first thing you want to think about; how can I do this without getting hurt.

  18. Run? No, running is a distant memory for me. The last time I tried to run was around 2016 when walking my Golden Retreiver and when I told her to "get that squirrel." I did a face plant. 😅

  20. When I had my left shoulder surgery in 2008, I was prescribed Oxycontin for pain. This was before I knew thing one about it. Tried one. Didn't help. Never took another. Lucky me.

  24. He hit 99 home runs in his career. They need to bring him back...chase for 100. It'll be just like watching Cabrera try to hit #500. Kind of.

  25. I am in the camp of Olson, maybe not being hurt still, but the team believing that he's not durable enough for a full season and also that they really are going to monitor Melton's innings. I kind of have mixed feelings on Melton. Because if the issue is that they think he's going to need TJ surgery (a rite of passage for MLB pitchers now), to just go ahead and get it done now and maybe he's ready to be tip top in 2028, when baseball returns after the lost year in 2027. Verlander is insurance for that. I am sure they told him that he's not promised one of the five slots. Or maybe - just maybe - the Tigers are going to a 6-man rotation at some point. I didn't expect this. I actually did last year. I guess he's pretty stoked about this. A return to the Halcyon days of his prime. Let's win this all and if Skubal walks, who cares?

  26. Favorite ending to a movie? It's a lighter touch, not a dramatic one. I guess you could have categories for endings Mine is Say Anything. Waiting for the No Smoking light to go off in the airplane (showing you how old the movie is, you could still smoke on planes in 1989). There is something very satisfying about the way it ends. Say Anything is an extremely underrated movie.

  30. 13 million. Yikes. That's a lot for a guy who will be hurt half the season and get shelled in half the games he pitches in. Might as well have brought back Paddack and Morton And they lowballed Skubal at 19 million.

  33. Only good things happen from having Olson, Melton, Montero, and Jobe around JV everyday. I still think he’s got something left in the tank to get major league hitters out.

  34. Holy ****, blind Bowden found a nut! https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6719990/2025/10/27/mlb-free-agents-2025-contract-team-predictions/ 39. Justin Verlander, RHP Age: 42 2025 bWAR: 1.2 2025 team: San Francisco Giants Agent: ISE Baseball Verlander has made it clear he wants to pitch in his age-43 season, and the way he pitched down the stretch, the future Hall of Famer deserves one more shot at it. His best month of the season was September, when he made five starts for the Giants, posting a 2.08 ERA and allowing two earned runs or fewer in four of his five starts. He made 29 starts in total and threw 152 innings with a 3.85 ERA. Salary comps: Clayton Kershaw 1-year, $7.5 million Best team fits: Tigers (so he can retire as a Tiger), Giants Contract prediction: 1-year, $12 million

  37. I saw a post where in the top frame there is an explosion and the back of Tom Hanks suit is on fire. The bottom photo shows Tom Hanks in a hospital bed with all kinds of burn wraps and a caption that reads Tom Hanks was nearly killed in a dressing room explosion. It's not even good A.I. yet comment after comment after comment was wishing him a fast recovery. They're just too stupid to know. It just floors me how easily people will fall for something. Many of these people vote. We're ****ed.

  40. Back in 1984 I lived in the country. We were almost off the grid. Only electric. But I had a TV tower when I bought the house, no antenna. So I put one up. No rotor, we were dirt poor. I could aim it toward Detroit and the Tiger games. The wind would move it and I would have to climb 30 foot up this thing and adjust it while my kids yelled at me from the window by the TV - a little more that way, no, too far. I wouldn't trade it for the world. 84... Great year was it not? Had number 3 son born that year (in October no less). His middle name is Allen, after Mr. Trammell.

  43. It cuts both ways though. The Dems (or rather, all voters with sanity) need to unite, yes. But Rs still need to figure out a path without DJT. Is that Vance? Don Jr.? Rubio? It's not as if the GOP is innately well run right now so as to anoint a successor. DJT will throw any successor under the bus in a heartbeat if he dares question a move he's made (or video he's posted) in the last 12 years. Trump doesn't actually care what becomes of the country when he's dead and gone, he just cares about his "legacy" (which is why we see his name getting thrown on **** indiscriminately). So in 2028 (or even in the primaries if they dare to have genuine open primaries), Vance (or the GOP field) will have to pretend like DJT is beyond reproach (lest DJT cut them off at the knees with his base), while not being the actual cult leader who has defied all historical odds to become the rapist/racist/pedophile in chief. And if it doesn't work, and Newsome/AOC/Shapiro/Beshear wins in 2028, all bets will be off in the GOP. It will be chaos as they try to fracture into either (a) trying to replicate Trump with a Dr. Oz / Vince McMahon / Trump Jr. figure, or (b) making a half-hearted return to conservatism with a Rubio / DeSantis figure. That all said, the path forward isn't crystal clear for the GOP either. Of course, they do have going for them that their party has managed to unite behind a person as horrific as Trump. While everyone on the sane side gets their knickers in a knot over Clinton/Biden/Harris not being their perfect candidate.
