  1. the organization, writ large, is probably the best it has been in my lifetime. realistically, reinforcements can come from Toledo or from a trade, and Harris should have a lot of assets for a deal. they should win the Central, and once you are in the playoffs, then why not just win the World Series? it's been 42 years!

  4. the other wild card is McKinstry. Seems unlikely his bat is as productive as it was last year, but if he does earn starting playing time a lot it would be on the left side of the IF. Good problems to have but also a ton of variables in the mix. I think the difference with Javy is that regular playing time is his to lose. He may well lose it, but I think it's his to start just because they are paying him and he will catch the ball where ever they put him.

  6. Securing the defensive board has been a real problem for this team since the all star break.

  8. I cut the cord long ago, so my Baseball has come through Fanduel/Bally sports streaming in the past. I went through the maze on MLB.com the first or second day it was available and signed up. It has worked on my Samsung phone perfectly through the MLB app, and my TV as well. On my Samsung 65" 4K TV (2024 Vintage), I simply searched for the MLB app, found and installed it on the TV . I logged into the app on my tv, and scanned the displayed QR Code and activated the app. That was it, It found the DSN subscription and has worked perfectly ever since. The picture quality is fantastic, and it looks like a 4K signal, although I'm not totally sure. The pricing is identical to my last year's Fanduel subscription. Between over the air, streaming, and Samsung TV which come through my internet connection on the TV, I am just shy of 500 channels plus the streaming. Life is good.

  9. The wife and I already voted earlier this week. My sense is that the money pouring into the state over this is being spent in a lot of different ways. One clear way is Facebook is full of bots and trolls for the "No" vote. Meanwhile youtube is 100% for it at least my feed is.

  10. just leave McG at SS; and move Javy/McKinstry around

  11. The team is young and came within an inning of the ALCS. I wouldn’t expect much turnover, coupled with many legitimate prospects knocking on the door.

  13. Hinch will play the hitting matchups. Not necessarily all lefties or righties and he will have late game strategies with the bench. We have seen in the past, this leads to some head scratching defense. Jones should never be in the field.

  14. One of the MLB Trade Rumor writers is picking the Tigers to win the World Series so I will make my first post on this tread with that ! And all of them have the Tigers winning the Central. "Go get em Tigers "

  15. and the bottom line is that if you hit you are going to play and we can only guess who is going to hit. Green, Torres and Dingler are probably the only guys on the team guaranteed to get really long runways if they don't hit, every one else is going to have to earn their keep from pretty early on.

  16. I think Keith may be a utility guy (1B, 2B, 3B, DH) but that's because I have less confidence in his defensive skills than some other people have. He'll be in the line-up every game versus RHP, but not necessarily as the third baseman. It's kind of fruitless figuring out who the "regulars" are going to be anyway, since there will be a new line-up every night and the roster is constructed in a way which makes that work.

  17. I really am surprised by the efforts of people to shoehorn Javy into 500 plate appearances this year between CF and SS. Maybe I’m wrong and he’s being viewed as a “regular” by the org, but to me he’s still a bench/utility player. Anyway, I think the default defensive alignment is clearly: Dingler 2 Tork 3 Torres 4 Keith 5 Kevin 6 Riley 7 Parker 8 Vierling 9 Kerry DH The nice thing is that our bench does provide some obvious solutions to amend the above depending on matchups. We really have been fortunate this spring. Today’s roster is exactly how I drew it up all offseason (although had Wenceel had a stronger spring I think you could still argue for getting rid of McKinstry), which is usually a pointless exercise because some projected regular will get hurt. As it is, everyone stayed healthy and Wenceel rightfully goes to Toledo as depth.

  19. I think he will be batting third, but I believe it will most commonly be Baez at SS and McGonigle 3B. I think that gives them the best defense. There will, of course, be lots of different combos.

  23. another year and another collapse. and we dont even get a middling pick out of it this year. this was the year they fixed the goalie. this was the year they made a move at the deadline. this was the year they traded the future for the present. and it looks like theyre going to fail again. if they do, they should make changes. the careful plodding approach, taking low ceiling high floor guys, not overspending on high impact players, hasnt worked out. time for a change.

  27. Great win against a team we should have lost to without Cade and Stew. Say what you will about the Laker being frauds as contenders - they certainly are - but they're still a playoff team that should have beaten us without Cade. Clutch performance by Jenkins, who seems to have found his groove again now that he's starting. I only hope it continues when Cade comes back and he goes back to being a backup. The Jenkins we've seen these last few games would be huge off the bench in the playoffs.
