I wish I knew how to link tweets here.....but I think 5 assists this early is ok. Tigers ML Report @tigersMLreport · 50m Eric Wagaman hits an RBI single to center but Max Clark throws Alan Roden out at home. It’s Clark’s 5th outfield assist of the season.2 points

So galling that this kind of thing kills one party when it happen to them, but strengthens the other party when it happens to them.2 points

Ottawa is now ahead of Boston on the regulation wins tiebreaker. If Boston wins one of its final two games the Wings can’t catch them. If the Bruins only pick up 1 point total in their final 2 games, the Wings would pass the Bruins by going 3-0 as long as least one Wings win is in regulation.1 point

I don't think anyone knowledgeable ever said he couldn't play short. I believe they were speculating that he'd probably end up around major league average, which is pretty damn good btw, and if another player came along who could play above average short, it could push McGonigle to 2nd or 3rd, where he'd be above average, and he'd hit enough in any case.1 point

Riley with the ribbie single! For as bad as Riley has been—.204 BA, .573 OPS, 73 wRC+ coming into the game—he had gotten on base all 14 games, and now all 15.1 point

Award eligibility watch: Ausar now has 63 games over 20 minutes. You can also include a maximum of 2 games in the 15-20 minute range and he has those as well. He now qualifies for awards. Cade has 62 qualifying games (soon to be 63). He has zero games between 15-20 minutes, so he can't use that rule. There's an exception for players who suffer a "Season Ending Injury" that takes them out through May 31st. Cade also wouldn't qualify for that, which is silly because it shouldn't matter when the significant injury occurred. You can file a "Grievance" if the eligibility for awards could affect your next contract and you can prove the team stopped you from playing to save money. Obviously that doesn't apply to Cade. There's also an "Extraordinary Circumstances Challenge". From what I've read online it sounds like the "circumstances" aren't defined in the contract and it's left open, so this is the angle the team will likely try to take. I doubt it will work for an injury, but it's worth a shot. This is also the angle Luka will go for due to his child being born.1 point

If Peck continues to hit you could see Peck at SS and McG moved to 3rd. I think the organizational plan is for Ranier at SS and McG moved to 2B or 3rd wherever most needed.1 point

When has lying not been the political tool of the day? I strongly agree that men get away with lying much more easily. When they do it, it is considered crafty and slick. When a woman does it, she is a bad person.1 point

Given that lying is the political tool de jure now-a-days, I try not jump to conclusions about any of this stuff. I believe two things are both true: 1) men have gotten away with this stuff in the main for a long time, 2) there is no XX chromosome linked truth gene either.1 point

Neat! I went back on clicked on all the past Hobey Baker winners. Like I said, I recognized about half. And that's about the proportion that had meaningful NHL careers. Now and then I'd come across a winner who played a few partial seasons in the NHL but whose name didn't really ring a bell. Fine. But then ...Tony Hrkac. I swear I've never heard this name in my life. Did he grow up in the same town as Kent Hrbek? So I click on his name and, hang on, 758 NHL GP in 17 NHL seasons between 1987-2003, for 9 different NHL teams! Even played in the NHL playoffs for 4 different teams. And I've never heard of him?! How is that possible, lol.1 point

I like this. The Tiger roster after the Perez call up has playable CF depth and allows for McGonigle and Keith to play every day. Clark needs to play every day. If he were to be called up, his addition is going to dig into McGonigle and Keith.1 point
-
With any luck, this removes Keith from platoon with Jones status to full time let him hit against LHP status. My wholly unqualified opinion is that its time to see what Keith can do on an everyday basis.1 point

As for Swalwell himself, it wouldn’t be surprising that a guy in his position of power would use the imbalance to impose himself sexually on people of lesser power against their will. It’s a tale as old as time. That said, there is a complicating factor with this one: any number of current Republicans have guns that smoke so much from their past, coupled with the credible allegations against people at the top of that party, that it’s very easy to connect dots to indict them; whereas here, the dot-connection feels more tenuous, and people may want to believe these allegations simply because Swalwell is powerful, or a threat to Republicans, and they want us to believe he’s guilty full stop. Also, given how Republicans confess their own tactics by accusing their enemies of those same things on a regular basis, the allegations that Democrats routinely pay people to cosplay as accusers, protesters, etc., seems to make it more likely that these accusers might themselves be paid to lie or be disingenuous than would normally be the case. IOW, it’s probably more likely Republicans engineered this entire situation, and furthermore, the engineering of this might also include implicating Porter in setting up Swalwell so they can take her down, too. Sure, it’s fantastical to some degree, but certainly within the plausible scope of the dirty trickery we associate with Republicans. All this said, I have zero idea whether Swalwell is guilty, and I have no opinion or hope tied to it either way. Just analyzing the possibilities here.1 point

From way downtown. It's gonna be nice to have MBN back on the big league roster next season.1 point

They aren't scoring runs because they are not hitting home runs and all teams are very dependent on home runs today. I am encouraged that they are getting on base consistently. The home runs will come. There are a lot of positives in the offense - Dingler and McGonigle are fantastic. Keith is showing a lot. Baez will always be an enigma, but he looks more like the 2025 version than the 2024 version so far. They don't look like the August-September, 2025 Tigers to me. I think they'll be OK.1 point

Max Plante has won the Hobey Baker. Have the Wings ever had a prospect win this? None from the list of winners jumps out me as Red Wings, but I only recognize half the names. https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/awards/awarddetail.php?award_id=1261 point

A win causes Memphis to lose 7% chance at the #1 pick and Utah 10%. That might be flipped around. But my god, look at who is playing.1 point

Javy seemed to hit a lot better when he was playing centerfield. Now perhaps I’m just making all this up, but I think centerfield is probably a less stressful position and he seemed to be better with the bat with less stress to deal with.1 point

Clark probably doesn't get called until they are ready to play him full time and I'd guess Wenceel is not going to play CF full-time.1 point

By the way, Happy Friday, everyone! We are entering that weekly dangerous 12-or-so-hour period during which Trump times his very worst stuff to shield the markets from the immediate effect. So what fresh hell will we be seeing by tomorrow morning?1 point

I like Javy in CF and that also gives McGonigle a clear runway at SS and Keith at 3b. Not sold on Wenceel defensively but he'll play if he hits.1 point

Yes run prevention is the bigger issue, but while the offensive numbers are true in aggregate it's largely because of 2 lopsided wins, also true they've scored 3 or less in 6 of 13 games.1 point
