Thanks to @Tigeraholic1 for doing the game threads all year.4 points

I was at this game. Second row right by 1st base. Witnessed a couple of drunk douchebags over-heckle Norby with a bunch of profanity (within close earshot of a bunch of kids). They were asked to stop by security and they were keeping a close eye on them. The whole section was going to cheer if they got booted. All in all, despite these DBs proving the “instant a-hole, just add alcohol” saying, it was a nice win on a beautiful day and it was a Bert VI.3 points

It's just not that complicated. In a capped league there are only so many avenues to get better - lopsided trades, drafts, and better development. Unless your FO can outperform other FOs at those tasks, you will never put a better team in the ice than your competition. So to say that this FO "did as well as.." is useless. They have to do *better* than the other guy, otherwise you just stay where you are. So not many second rounders make it? That's a loser's take, if you are going to win *you* need to be the guy that finds the 2nd rounders that do. That may sound harsh but that's the reality of pro sports, it's not a forgiving business. SY often bemoans the fact that it's hard to better - so the 1st step is finding people who can do what's hard. What sports organization goes 10+yrs under performing its competition without any personnel changes being made? We are basically waiting for the blind squirrel to stumble into a nut somewhere with this org (OK they did once with Moritz so they've already burned one allotment of luck). If they want a different result, it's time to have different people driving the result, or maybe turn it over the ClaudeGPT.2 points

On the plus side, Johansson has been great. It is intriguing that in both his North American stints so far his offense has greatly improved compared to his time in Sweden. If he shows some offensive touch that would be a huge boon for the Wings. He'd be what I hoped Wallinder was going to turn out to be so it would make that sting a lot less. Maybe it is just Red Wings depression but after watching that Augustine game I don't expect Buium to ever play in the NHL2 points

I should clarify that I have two life goals. One to be able to go in long walks, or maybe still runs, to them take a nap. Then since I will probably still be living here to then go to the game in my robe and hype up the latest prospect and nobody bother me. Just me and my White Russian and rug.2 points

Yes, I was wrong. It was not Smith. Smith was fired at around the same time. I think Pujols may have been an interim move until Dombrowski had more time to make a decision.1 point

I've said that all along. I wasn't saying they were bad. I was saying that they were not doing well to start the season and that was the biggest reason they were losing. Or maybe the swept because they added Perez. Not sure.1 point

Great news! Also shows how Trump and Vance are not a positive to campaigns over there. Losers.1 point

The things this will unlock! Now I gather that other countries that have Putinist leadership can still step in and block the EU's attempts to fund Ukraine. But, the entire MAGA, Tucker Carlson, Groyper, anti-Semitic, Christian Nationalist weltanschaung took a serious body blow today.1 point

Apart from Larkin, Kenny had two #15 picks in 25 years! Yzerman has had seven #15 picks already. The year before Holland picked Larkin he picked Mantha at #20 - Mantha was handed to Yzerman in 2019 as a 24 year old coming off a 25G 48Pts in 67 games. Holland also picked Tyler Bertuzzi late in the 2nd round in the same draft as Mantha and Bertuzzi was handed to Yzerman in 2019 as a 24 year old coming off a 21 G 47 Pts season. Hronek, drafted late in the 2nd round in 2016, was handed to Yzerman as a 21 year old. Holland missed on two top 10s - Zadina and Rasmussen - but let's see how much better than those two Kasper and Danielson turn out to be. That's not defending Holland, just saying that apart from his three top 6 overall picks Yzerman's drafting hasn't yielded much ...yet. A 91 point season with 2 games to go, on the playoff bubble, isn't much different than what I expected last September. We'd feel differently about 91 points if: a) the points hadn't been frontended in the first 2/3 of the season followed by a 1/3 of the season collapse; and b) youth like Kasper, Danielson, ASP and Cossa had contributed to those 91 points.1 point

I followed this game on my phone today walking 3.2 miles at the Idaho Botanical Garden and was so tired when I got home I had to crash for an hour and a half, and while I was lights totally out asleep, I dreamed that Jeff Bridges as The Dude from The Big Lebowski was walking around in his bathrobe at Comerica Park talking about “how ****ing great Kevin McGonigal is!“1 point

I just can't imagine he has the time or desire to even bother with it other than reading it and smirking about it. I think that he selected a person who is loyal to him and can write controversial stuff that sounds like it could be him. Regardless of whether or not it's actually him though, he has to own whatever is said in those posts.1 point

I think most of the stuff coming out of his account was written by somebody else.1 point

By the way, Happy Friday, everyone! We are entering that weekly dangerous 12-or-so-hour period during which Trump times his very worst stuff to shield the markets from the immediate effect. So what fresh hell will we be seeing by tomorrow morning?1 point

.421 BA / .500 OBP only 3 Ks in 28 ABs. Wow. I think some outfielders on the Tigers should start paying attention to this. Honestly, they could trade Greene right now and it wouldn't upset me one bit.1 point

A few of you have mentioned the absence of @Jim Cowan who was also Charles Liston on the old board and wondered what he was doing and if he was OK and I reached out to him through email and he said he’s doing just fine but that he finds his general interest in being a part of a message board on a daily basis to have waned and that it only has its greatest value as an all consuming passion which has for the time being ebbed. He said that he’s excited about McGonigle and the starting pitching and sent his best to a number of you. Since it’s a personal message, I don’t feel comfortable relaying too many of the details, but my own concern was that something healthwise had happened to him - we are both 74 so that can be an issue - and it hasn’t. Anyway, that’s the scoop.1 point
