Every UDFA signs for 3 years at $3M which is league minimum. You look at the guarantees. He only got $175k guaranteed and $25k in signing bonus.2 points

No shame in giving up a double to Acuna. Felt like the walk to Olson was a bit deliberate. Mize growing up before our very eyes.1 point

Exactly. Cade and Ausar are the building blocks. First team All NBA PG and a First Team All Defensive wing. While a (real) second All-Star would be nice, you really just need basic 3-and-D players at SG and PF along with a cheap Center. A basic backup ballhandler off the bench who isn't a G-Leaguer would help as well. That's not asking much and luckily you have a 22 year old first time All-Star you can sign and trade this offseason to help get a significant portion of that accomplished.1 point

Gasoline prices loom large IMO.... people previously associated, rightly or wrongly, Trump with low gasoline prices. The whole "I'll take the cheap gas and the mean tweets" sentiment was very prevalent in 2024. That narrative of Trump has been blown to smithereens at this point. It's gone.1 point

Cade per/100 possessions is turning it over 19.9% of the time. Of the guys playing regular minutes, he isn't even the worst. Duren 24.1% Stewart 22.3% Huerter 22.2% LeVert 20%1 point

The point is not to win this case against the SPLC. The point is to investigate them, for the purpose of destroying the credibility of and the public’s view of the SPLC. Consistent with Trump’s demand to Zelenskyy that he announce an investigation into the Bidens and “we’ll do the rest”.1 point

the tattletales are Bluetooth and Location Services. Turning BT off when you don't need it and locking down location services so apps can only use it when they are in focus or not at all is about all you can do other than a hard shutdown of the phone.1 point

If the Red Sox fired the manager and staff this early, they were probably contemplating making a change in spring training. It’s not as though Cora was setting the world on fire with this team. He inherited one of the greatest teams in history and cruised to a ring in 2018, but ever since, they’ve been kind of flailing, clustering around .500, never winning another division, and missing the playoffs more than making them. Another thing to remember: Cora was not this front office’s guy. He belonged to the Dombrowski front office. Craig Breslow gets to reshape the on-field coaching in his image now, but then he gets full blame if they end up flailing, too. I sure wouldn’t want to be a Red Sox fan right now.1 point

I also have to give a shout out to @Deleterious and @Betrayer. For the last year, they have both repeatedly talked about this exact scenario of the Duren offensive model not working in the playoffs. Here we are and it’s come to fruition almost exactly as they predicted. Amazing that Trajan and any of 35 VP’s that are employed by the club couldn’t figure out.1 point

Yeah, don't do anything significant at the trade deadline. We've seen this before Tigers could have used just one more hitter. Nope, we get washed up pitchers like Charlie Morton Wings year-after-year don't do anything at the deadline - finallly get someone this year and he makes it worse. But the Pistons - having the season they were having - did next to nothing to capitalize on it. And here we are. This team could win 3 in a row. But not likely now.1 point

I would probably give Sasser minutes before Ron. They just held Orlando to 33% from the floor and didn't let them break 100. In today's game that is great defense. Ron pretty much only brings defense to the table. They need someone who can hit a shot. I don't like Sasser and think he is pretty bad. But Jenkins has been awful so giving Sasser some of his minutes won't hurt anything. Maybe he knocks in a couple of threes and loosens up the Magic defense a bit. Odds are Sasser will also be terrible. But give it a shot.1 point

that kind of change at that age is pretty unusual. Among possibilities could be: unusually long streak of BaBIP luck He shortened his approach enough to give himself more time and made it work He got stronger and his bat speed increased and that's given him more time or he just has more ability to put the bat where he wants it. combinaton of 2 & 3 Combination of 1, 2 & 3. He's gotten somewhat better but not as good as he looks now.1 point

cade was garbage. i know he's super cool dude now with his GQ cover story, but can he actually play hard and locked in for 40 minutes? he didnt have it tonight and they needed him to be super cade. why? because the rest of the team blows. ausar cant score. duren has been exposed. duncan is cooked. and where is ron holland? is he THAT bad that he cant even get on the floor?1 point

Jalen Duren always talk about playing NBA basketball but never has. Maybe next season. Walleye games are a lot of fun though. Great atmosphere at the Huntington Center in Toledo.1 point

Great time for Cade to play like he's the most talented player on the floor and Duren to do anything at all. I don't even know though that I would want Duren in the game at this point.1 point

If you get them both right you should get a third that you can only use in the last 2 minutes. Getting penalized for refs making bad calls is just a bad rule.1 point

one point that might be worth making is that to go back to the parallels with other RW or strong man movements, in 30's Germany, there was a real external 'enemy' that was a uniting force for German's against the status quo - namely the terms of the Treaty of Versailles - the Great War was over but they were still in fundamental opposition to the rest of Europe.. In Venezuela, there was the imperialist north, if you want to count Berlusconi a lightweight RW movement in Italy you can take him as a reaction to the onerous debt management terms that the norther EU countries were imposing on the Southern. The point being that there is usually at least a grain of truth in the idea that there is some external force that the country had to unite around the strong man to break free. In the US, the the RW can only run against the US LW; whatever ills they claim are damaging the US are all self-imposed. There is China as the boogie man of de-industrialization, but that isn't even at the top of MAGAs list, which are mostly cultural. So your difference is that MAGA cannot unite the country around its project, because its complaint is fundamentally against the other half of the voting public. That strikes me as difference in kind that has some level of relevance.1 point

Seems silly to me. It’s still only April. They rolled off, what, half of their coaching staff? And then reverberations to the minor leagues because managers/coaches down there were part of the domino effect. Maybe I’m wrong, but unless the team needed a change in culture, it just seems like a desperate move(s).1 point

yes, he is a good hitter when he gets going, but he has peaked as a fielder, so he's going to have to hit a lot to retain his value. He is stiff and injury prone and seems like someone who will not age well which is one of the main reasons I think he wouldn't bring much back in a trade.1 point
