  2. I remember 1976 being a really big deal. That is all anybody talked about for a couple of years and I was excited about it. After that, I remember thinking, I am going to 63 when the next big number comes and that would be really old! I don't feel THAT old, but I couldn't care less about 250 for the reason you said.

  3. They have 7 walk-off losses. If they won all those games, they would be at .500. More realistically, they have 15 blow saves. Last year, they converted save situations at a 65% rate which is close to league average. If they had the same rate this year, they would have 9 blown saves. So, they possibly could be 2 games below .500.

  8. Remember when Jason Grilli wasn’t here anymore because Jason Grilli didn’t pitch very well and needed to keep his mouth shut?

  10. And lets not forget that a blown save is a blown save whether it's one run or 3 that's given up. If Tigers relievers came into more games with a 3 run lead than a one run lead, or if the team scored more late runs, some of those saves wouldn't have been blown - or long story short, the BP has been bad but poor offense also contributes to it looking even worse.

  12. Great game by Everett and Carter Bear. Bear had a goal and asssist, and the Silvertip machine reaches the Memorial Cup final representing the USA against theKitchener Rangers. Bear first the Wings well, since he's a left handed shot, and he can play the off-wing. Everett won the game 6-1.

  13. Ilitch has shown that while he likes to be 'around' his teams, he has no taste for being an activist owner. Avila and Yzerman prove he is willing to have far more patience with his management than many pro sports owners. You might think that seeing both of his teams repeatedly collapsing just when they were supposed to be turning the corner might drive him to a drastic move, but I still doubt it. Maybe more concerning is that all of the 2024 euphoria about McGonigle, Clark, Briceno and Liranzo as the next wave of hitters has turned into "Well, McGonigle is certainly great and who are those other guys?" Nothing unusual about a high miss rate on prospects, unless you are specifically selling your ability to find and hit on prospects at a higher rate as why you should have the job. You need to average one or two players a year to keep up. If this year we count Melton and McGonigle, that's fine, but two players is not a development bonanza - it's your average target.

  17. However bad it is for us watching the Tigers lose in horrific fashion on TV night after night, it is twice as soul-crushing seeing it happen in person.

  18. I think it suggests they have had poor situational hitting and pitching...which most of us have noticed. I don't expect any changes for now. They are kind of stuck until they get healthy.

  19. According to baseruns (the # of runs a team should have scored/allowed based on H, BB, HR, etc), the Tigers should have scored 4.05 runs per game and allowed 4.09. That would be a 28-29 record. Bad sequencing on both sides of the ball. https://www.fangraphs.com/standings/pythagorean-baseruns

  32. and it's for good reason: Almost every pitcher today is out of gas and does lose effectiveness somewhere around 100 pitches, which is probably more evidence that the old timers didn't throw max effort all the time, because there is no reason at all to think that today's pitchers should have less stamina.
