  1. More recent Id like to go back and take Hali or Maxey instead of Killian.
  2. Hutch and Jack Campbell will be on that list in due time.
  3. I liked how JEIII was arguing with people before the lottery that suggested that if we got Wemby we should be at the point where we're atleast competing for a play in spot and he was like "that's an unrealistic expectation given the age of the team." I'm sorry this next year will be the 5th under Weaver, third with Cade along with now having 5 lottery picks under him including two top tier number 1 picks(again this was with the assumptionthat they got Wemby). I don't think it's unreasonable to expect after all that to atleast be a high 30s low 40s team, if you're not then you did something(s) wrong along the way and shouldn't get a free pass because they are young. I mean by his standards we shouldn't be a good team until Cade's 5th year and Iveys 4th which is ridiculous imo. I know that's how it looks like it is going to turn out but the point is it shouldn't have been that way. I feel this coming year shouldve been the year at the very least we were a mid 40s win team but that isn't going to happen.
  4. Denver's really never had any early picks outside of Mudiay who was a bust and they are successful as well, same with Milwaukee but of course they both hit on two of the best players in the league outside of the top 10 so hard to duplicate that. The pre blow up Utah teams are probably the best example, they never really did much in the playoffs but they were atleast successful in the regular season despite no top selections and no top tier superstars.
  5. I saw something similar to this last week but it showed the teams from the last 15 or 20 years and 2 of the teams that made the top 20 from that span were the 2011 Lions(i think that was top 5) and.....22 Lions. The pessimistic in me worries that maybe that played a vital role in the success of both those seasons.
  6. It's not quite as good as the first one but Gallen joins the most exclusive club in baseball and that's the club of pitchers that killed bird with throws.
  7. The good news is the Twinkies choked away their game giving up 5 runs in the 7th to lose to the Dodgers so we remain just 2 back in the loss column.
  8. I don't know if Al panicked per se but I do think it's a possibility that the Riley injury was a factor just due to the timing of the trade. Maybe I'm forgetting about a Rays transaction that happened that made Meadows more expendable then but it just seems like if you were interested in him that you would've brokered a trade for him in the middle of the offseason or maybe even the start of camp instead of waiting till right before the regular season started. Or maybe Al wasn't the one that initiated the deal at all and it was TB's GM that saw the Greene injury and pounced at the chance to unload Meadows and take advantage of a team like the Tigers. I do remember even national guys coming up with hypothetical moves to make after the Riley injury most notably sign Conforto so it wasn't just fans on a message board that were wondering if the Tigers would make any moves to compensate for the injury.
  9. As if that isn't bad enough it is even worse knowing that it was a leadoff hit then nothing but a few walks from the next 30 batters and against a 43 year old pitcher no less! Pathetic showing indeed.
  10. The Tigers offense looks like crap but in their defense sometimes you run into a young fireballer with electric stuff like today's starter *checks notes* Rich Hill.
  11. My earliest memory of watching a baseball game was the Braves and Im wanting to say Pirates. I just remember one of the pitchers names was Zane Smith and as a 5 or 6 yr old kid the name Zane was so amusing to me. Years ago I decided to look up his game log history to pin point the exact game and I thought I found it but now I completely forgot again.
  12. Even though the numbers haven't been good this year I still have some hope for Flores particularly since it has come out that they are having him work on things which could equate to the lesser numbers this year but yeah overall there isn't much to get excited about. Still though I'm of the belief its easier to patch together a passable pitching staff than it is a lineup so all things being equal Id rather go offense.
  13. I used to love getting home from school and watching the Cubs on WGN or the Braves on TBS. There was a time where they were on virtually every day and I got to watch them more than the Tigers. Kinda surprised I never took to either team considering the exposure to them.
  14. Considering the Tigers drafted his brother high and gave him a big bonus a few years prior Id imagine they have some type of relationship with the family I wonder if they asked them at the time of the trade any info about him mentally. Like how they felt he would handle the move here, how he has been feeling since the bout of covid and things of that nature. Or none of that was on their radar and they just checked him physically and that was that.
  15. With the off day on Monday and having one tomorrow seems like an odd time to give him a rest which leads me to think that maybe he is feeling under the weather or something.
  16. I know nothing about the players but philosophy wise my view on who to take comes down to how you feel about Cade and Ivey. If you think 1 or both are potential All NBA guys then you really don't need to shoot for the moon on a boom or bust guy and can settle for a player that could fill the role of a player you're looking for. Otoh if you don't have that feeling and think that isn't going to be the case with them and you still feel you need to find that franchise cornerstone maybe you take a chance on a high upside raw player that has superstar potential albeit being far from a sure thing. Maybe like a Shaeden Sharpe type from last year.
  17. Yeah I mean our ancestors were throwing spears with max effort for millenia so I definitely think the human body can handle it to some extent but not to the degree that pitchers do nowadays. Also even though the overhand throw is a natural human motion I don't think the way you spin or release a breaking ball is which is why I think that is the biggest culprit.
  18. Yeah Id probably still deal a 1st for Williams but I'm not as eager to as I was say for Simmons last month even though Williams may be the superior player. Im just apprehensive about dealing future 1sts cause you just never know where you're going to be picking a year from now. Even though I like to believe it will be in the 20s you just never know, we could have bad injury luck, turnover luck or have a terrible record in close games and that pick ends up being in the top 10 or even top 5. Also its hard to know what the draft class is going to look like a year from now. With that said for a player of Williams talent Id probably still do it but like MB said I wouldn't be as gung ho about it as I would've been a month ago.
  19. As far as the Pedro thing with Mize, youre not exactly going out on a limb but saying a young pitcher is going to need TJ so just cause he ended up right doesnt mean to me that there were all these warning signs. Also sometimes the perceived warning signs don't happen at all or at the least happen way down the road. Max and Sale were two guys that everybody pegged to have arm issues and Sale didnt need TJ till 10 years later and Max has been durable for almost his entire career.
  20. It happens more more now due to A. the fact they throw at or near max effort virtually every pitch and B. the emphasis on spin particularly the slider. Trying to force those extra rpms that don't come natural is just a recipe for a disaster.
  21. I wonder if Riley doesnt break his foot do we still trade for Meadows? I think the team felt that our margin for error was very small when it came to making the playoffs so even though Riley was only going to be out a couple months max they had a sense of urgency to try compensate for that loss even if it wasn't going to be a major deal. I guess either way though Paredes was likely the odd man out in the orgs eyes and prob wouldve been traded at some point.
  22. I think Colt had the type of game where it's ok to say the ole "had himself a day" line.
  23. I think the deal with the Denver incident was that the league put two and two together and realized that the only way he'd have that gun there was if he took it on the team plane which is against the rules.
  24. Id have taken 77 before the year but now my hopes have raised and I'm shooting for .500 or atleast 80 wins. Its only a few games difference but it seems like a much bigger deal to say you're an 80 win team vs. 77
  25. I'm pretty ignorant to gun laws but has it been confirmed that he didn't break any laws?
