I don't think anybody is defending how awful he has been at the plate, Helen Keller could see that but his defense has been elite leading all SS in outs above average. That doesn't make up for his horrible offense but it shows that he atleast brings something to the table. Plus another "defense" of his is that our system just doesn't have any other MLB caliber shortstops so if he were to leave we'd have to go outside the org to find a replacement and there aren't many good ones that our available. Our best hope to get a good one probably lies in hoping that Javy can be fixed, it's a crappy situation but unfortunately that's where we find ourselves at the moment. -

Phillies had EVs that inning of 106, 105 and 102. Tyler definitely not fooling them. -

Tigers go down 1-2-3 all swinging to start the 1st. Gonna be one of those nights again. -
Even though I still prefer Gradey I'm not married to him or anything. I'd be fine with any number of players. Assuming Scoot or Miller don't drop I think my preference would be... Gradey Hendricks Walker Amen Whitmore Also I'm not too concerned with "reaching" for one at 5, I think where were at there isn't much difference between 5 or the end of the lottery so to me if you're willing to take somebody at 10 you can take them at 5. Of course ideally we'd able to trade back and still pick up one of these guys but I don't see a situation where that happens unless somebody like Scoot or Miller drops to us but in that case we probably be better off just taking them.

I was gonna post this in the MLB Thread but since we're on the topic of the FCL the Jays just announced that they optioned Alex Manoah all the way down to the FCL. That's like unheard of to me, he was their Opening Day starter and I believe a Cy Finalist last year and now he is going to rookie ball. I guess they just want him to try to find himself in the lowest pressure environment as possible. Whatever the reason I don't know if there is any precedent for a move like this.

I mean he doesn't have to say anything, the fact that he came out and openly said that unsolicited makes me think that there is truth to it, atleast in Campbell's eyes.

Don't get me wrong I really liked Polanco and he was a good player for us but I don't know if there has been a more overrated local athlete in the past 20 or so years than him. When we let him go you would've thought we got rid of Joe Morgan or something with the way people reacted. -
Considering all his injuries his arm probably only has the mileage of a 16 year old too.
-
I really like Langford, I'm to the point where I will be pretty bummed if we don't end up with him unless of course its for Crews then I wouldn't mind.

I think Gradey is more than just a shooter though, I think he is a well rounded offensive player that can do a ton of things well that just so happens to have elite level shooting and iq. If you want an offensive player that isn't going to dribble the air out of the ball but instead make quick decisions, find the open man along with the ability to take it to the rim I think he is just that player.

If there were any true 2 way wings then sure take them but I don't see any. Some that may have that potential but **** has the same potential to be one. He is a 3 level scorer who has good length, moves his feet well and works hard on defense. Who's to say he can't get coached up to be a solid defender? As far as the Kennard comparison **** can finish at the rim much better than Luke and has more length and passing ability. They are both white and can shoot though

Im still on the D*ck bandwagon. I know people question his defense but Ive read mixed reports about that. No he will never be a lockdown defender but according to guys like Givony he shouldn't be a liability either. I just love his shooting and most importantly his basketball iq. Scouts say that he just knows where to go and be at all times and has really good court vision. The thought of pairing a guy like that with Cade just sounds too promising to pass up to me considering the fact that every other prospect in our range has some question marks about their game as well.

I tend to agree about Baez, I mean I'm as frustrated with his offense as the next guy and I know he isn't worth the money but in the hypothetical situation where he opts out I'm not sure we would allocate the savings from him any better. We'd still have a gaping hole at SS and would need to address that and FA contracts aren't getting any cheaper and this is even assuming we invest all of the money saved on him back into the roster. -
Not a surprise but Colt Keith was named Eastern League Player of the month after putting up like an 1.100 OPS with 6 HRS.

Speaking of initials on hats, looking at the letters on both of these teams hats how many of those do you think the Tigers will hit into this series? -

A friend of mine in school was named Brandon but everybody called him B so he would wear Red Sox hats cause of it. I thought it was pretty stupid but to each their own. -

I'm probably forgetting about a series recently but I can't remember the last time we played in Philly. It'll be cool to see a different stadium than we're used to seeing. -
I agree and for the record I may not have worded it right but Kiley said IF they chose to go that route, not that they necessarily are.

I'm sure you gave him a tougher AB than that bum Mantle though! The only Major Leaguer that I know of that I ever played with was Chris Getz, played with one summer on a travel league I was on and against him in High School. He was a couple years younger than me and most of the guys on our team yet he was head and shoulders above everybody else. He was like Mike Trout and the rest of us were current Miggy. I always think of him to appreciate just how good these MLBers are. He was only a utility player for a few years yet he was just so much better than everybody that I played with growing up.

Singuel with the 400ft single! In his defense the ball did bounce perfectly to Robert but still that would've been extra bases for any other player in baseball I'd imagine. -

Olsen averaging damn near 3K on his slider which is insane. -
Time for my humble brag, in High School I got to face Drew Henson, at the time he was like the most heavily scouted kid in the area and would always draw big crowds. Anyway after embarrassing me and my entire team(I think we had 1 hit at this point) I came up for the 3rd time. I cheated so much cause that was the only way I could catch up to his 90 some mph fastball(I don't think I seen anything more than 80 before him) and I got lucky and even though I was still late the ball found my bat and probably due to his velo I laced one just inside the 1st base foul line and I guess I flipped the bat even though I didn't realize it. I got to 2nd base and their SS was like "Dude I can't believe you just flipped the bat on Drew Henson, you better hope you don't get another at bat" and lucky for me I didn't. K that's my "Al Bundy" High School sports story for the day. lol

Klaw had a chat yesterday and somebody asked him about Keith and they ended the question with "Do you think he can be a top 20 prospect at the end of the year?" to which Law responded with something like "he's legit and the bat's legit but not gonna be a top 20 prospect, that's too high of bar." There was also a question about Faedo to which he responded with something like "he's been a lot better controlling the zone but I don't think he can induce enough soft contact to be anything more than a back end starter."

Id imagine most of the disparity comes from how good the offenses and/or how bad the pitching staffs are. The Guards are starting to score some more runs but for awhile I think their offense was even worse than ours, on top of that they don't give up many runs so between the two that prob explains their shorter times.
