Week Eleven: Detroit Lions (3-6) @ New York Giants (7-2)
RandyMarsh replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
Also on top of this they only have a plus 14 margin despite the soft schedule and 7-2 record and most amazingly have given up more yards, more 1st downs, more yards per play and more time of possession to the opponents. Losing all those stats normally means you're a losing team, not a 7-2 one. -
Week Eleven: Detroit Lions (3-6) @ New York Giants (7-2)

The Tennessee game was week 1 which is the most volatile week in the NFL so whether fair or not people don't put as much stock into those wins as others. Also Tennessee was short handed yet controlled most of the game, the Giants needed a late comeback to win by 1, again those are things analytics looks at, if you are getting beat for 50 out of the 60 minutes that is going to go against you. The Ravens game was even more lopsided, the Ravens controlled that game and had almost double the total yards, again it took a late comeback to win by 1 in a game they were getting beat the vast majority of the time. Yes the final score is all that matters but it doesn't always paint the picture on who was the better team majority of the game and in the Giants sake most of their wins have been those type which is why the metrics were so down on them. -
Week Ten: Detroit Lions (2-6) @ Chicago Bears (3-6)

Yeah I don't care about draft position cause I just don't love any of the top guys. Bryce Young could be that guy but he has some question marks and the Texans are so bad it would be hard to finish worst than them even if we tried so he likely was a no go anyway. -
Week Eleven: Detroit Lions (3-6) @ New York Giants (7-2)
RandyMarsh replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
I read an article last week that showed several analytics that pointed to the Giants being the worst 6-2 team in NFL history, considering they didnt exactly dominate a 1 win Texan team Id imagine that holds true with 7-2. -
Joel Embiid just had a Chamberlainesque stat line of 59 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists and 7 blocks. Did it on just 28 FGA too thanks to going an unWilt like 20-24 from the line.

Week Eleven: Detroit Lions (3-6) @ New York Giants (7-2)
RandyMarsh replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
Perhaps a meaningless tidbit but the Lions next 5 games are played exclusively at Ford Field or Met Life Stadium(1 at NYG and 1 at NYJ). Don't play a game outside of those two venues until Christmas Eve. -
Rams lose so that pick is now number 7 and our own pick is number 11.

Week Ten: Detroit Lions (2-6) @ Chicago Bears (3-6)

Hey if the 49ers lose to a tough Chargers team tonight the Lions will only be 1 loss back from the last playoff spot. -

Rams draft pick watch, Stafford is indeed out for the Rams but so is Murray for the Cardinals so it's going to be battle of the backup QBs. -

11/12/2022 7:00 EST Boston Celtics vs Detroit Pistons
RandyMarsh replied to casimir's topic in Detroit Pistons
Cade has been ruled out for atleast the next week due to "shin soreness", team says they will reevaluate him a week from now. -
I actually like the blue pants with the blue jerseys but I'm a fan of unis with the matching tops and bottoms like you get in other sports. I just think it looks sleeker than the mismatched top and bottom.

Would LeBron be so understanding if a person said an anti African American remark but then apologized after public backlash or does that type of leeway only happen when it's antisemitic?
-
Oh most definitely, I've always been in the camp of wanting to see tougher comp cause those are the games I enjoy most and ultimately those experiences are what I like most about watching my teams play. I just don't believe in holding teams accountable for their schedule unless they play cupcakes all season which doesn't really happen when playing in power conferences. Even with the BIG 10 being down this year you still gotta beat a few decent teams along with an elite one so for me that's a strong enough resume to get in unless there are 4 other undefeateds with an even better one.
-
To be fair other than this year and next they almost always schedule 1 quality opponent. In the past 10 years they've played Alabama, Florida, ND 4 or 5 times along with "mid tier" teams like Washington, Oregon State, BYU(ranked when they played them) and Utah. It's not like they schedule trash every year.
-
Well assuming nobody chickens out or things change due to all the conference alignment Michigan will be playing at Texas in 2024 and home against them in 2026, and at Oklahoma in 2025 and home against them in 2027 so after next year they got several years in a row of big boys in the non conference. I guess I should say potential big boys cause even though Texas appears to be on the rise they've been down for the previous decade and Oklahoma seems like they are on a relative down turn since Riley left so it's no guarantee that either will be a "big boy" when we face them.

Can anyone tell me the significance of this?
RandyMarsh replied to Warning Track Power's topic in Detroit Tigers
Not sure of the significance but I know I was at this game cause that is my little brother's 21st birthday and I remember we spent a day downtown at the casino and the Tigers to celebrate. Trying to remember specifically what happened in that game and I can't. -
Not disagreeing with the last part but my point is that I would come away underwhelmed with a team's non conference schedule whether they played 3 FCS teams or 3 mid to bottom tier power 5 teams since in both cases they are playing teams vastly inferior to them. I look at non conference schedules in three categories, either you have the one where you play an elite team(s) like Oregon did with Georgia, play what figures to be a really good team like OSU did with ND or play 3 inferior teams like we did. We of course took it to the extreme playing the worst of the worst but even if we didn't take it that far I would still come away underwhelmed. Regardless though what really hurts them from a schedule standpoint is the Big 10 being so down this year, coming into the year you hoped that Iowa and MSU would be top 15ish teams along with a top 10 PSU and top 5 OSU. If that were the case winning those 4 games plus a 5th against a hopefully top 20 team in the Big Championship would offset the cupcake non conference schedule. Of course as we know that wasn't the case and it's looking like Penn State and OSU may end up being the only ranked teams they face.

Avila seeing the Tigers kick Reyes to the curb.

Lions currently have the 3rd easiest remaining schedule based off opponents expected winning percentage so Campbell and co. could rack up some wins here in the 2nd half. On a side note the hardest schedule is the Patriots with a combined expected winning percentage of their opponents of 54% vs. the easiest schedule at 46%. So you're only talking 8 percentage points between easiest and hardest, really puts into perspective the parity in the NFL.

Reminds me of the Aguirre era Mav's jerseys. In a vaccuum I love the look but just not sure how I feel about them being Pistons jerseys. Still better than another black alternate though.
-
All things being equal no a mid tier win is more impressive but is a 20 point win against 5 or 6 win team really tell you that much more than a 60 point win against a bottom feeder? In the first scenario you handled an inferior team in a game you win 90%, in the 2nd you dominate a team you win 99% of the time. My overall point is if you think a team is worthy of the playoffs in the first scenario then you should in the 2nd and vice versa.

https://www.nba.com/news/detroit-pistons-city-edition Looked it up and it's not for Vernors(don't know where that tweeter got that from) but to honor Saint Cecilia Gym in Detroit where the who's who of Detroit players supposedly played growing up.
-
How much more though, enough to say a team is or isn't a playoff team? Whether a team beats 3 scrubs or 3 halfway scrubs it isn't going to change my view on that team.
-
Pistons is the top row 2nd from the end on the right. Im glad it's something other than another boring black or gray jersey but what's the story behind the green? I saw somebody in the comments on the tweet say it was for Vernors but that doesnt really look like Vernors colors to me.
