  1. We are both just speculating. We don’t know the real intention of this bonus. It’s a tiny piece of his massive contract so it is possible to be a slush fund, or it could be intended to help pay lower level assistants, or something completely different that we haven’t mentioned. It’s even possible that it was paid out the wrong way by someone in accounting. I’ve had this happen in the past when we wrote up complex contracts. We understood the terms but the AP clerk didn’t and just paid out what they thought and moved on to the next check. Yes, It could be a bad look if the assistants are pissed but that was back to my original point on the reporting.
  2. Of course he has expense accounts for normal business expenses but lets say he wants wings in Atlanta. The university won’t cover that. I’m also not sure how they feel about copious amounts of alcohol in bars. MSU is a public entity and technically all financial records are public. This could be a way to maintain some type of discretion even at a the cost of a personal tax liability.
  3. Can’t tell if this is click-bait journalism where someone read the contract and made an assumption or did they actually have a source that the other coaches are pissed off? I could easily see a situation where this is a bonus paid to Mel that he uses to cover expensive dinners and events for the coaches when they are on the road.
  4. My numbers are wrong. I just realized that year round, 10% of time is spent reminiscing about teams and players from years ago since that’s all we really have positive to talk about.
  5. The Fan changed format a few years ago so there’s only 1 sports talk channel. There is almost zero Pistons or Wings talk all year round. I suspect that will change a bit when they get better. My best estimate on coverage. Football season that leaves 70% Lions, 20%UM/MSU, 5% General NFL, 5% gambling. Spring it’s 50% Lions off-season and draft and 50% Tigers Summer is 75% Lions and 20% Lions and 5% UM preseason hype.
  6. You said it was sad he’s still given the platform. Ratings back up why he does. I get why you would find him unlistenable. He pretends to be impartial to UM but he’s absolutely not and makes it a point to call out blue arrogance whenever he can. That would bother the hell out of me if I was a UM guy. On the subject of unlistenable, Mike Stone is the worst. A dinosaur of the days when the top quality of a sports talk host was someone that could remember random history and useless trivia.
  7. I absolutely understand the hate from UM fans but he’s by far the best sports talk host in town. The ratings back this up as well.
  8. He will get a few Rooney rule interviews.
  9. That’s definitely happening. Billy is a super talented songwriter, singer, and guitar player. He’s a true triple threat. IMO, Bluegrass/Jamgrass is like Jazz. I like and appreciate it but can only handle it for so long before I get bored. Selfishly, I’d love to see what he can come up with having an electric guitar in his hands and playing more rock with little hints of bluegrass. I bet it would be amazing.
  10. This tour was amazing. Goose left no doubt they are going to be big time.
  11. It will all play out on the field in the next two weeks. Now if both win out, that will make an incredible debate.
  12. On the subject of country-adjacent, here’s some jamgrass (with horns!) that blew me away last week. Song starts at 1:32
  13. Heisman race has a similar feel to 20 years ago when Carson Palmer closed with huge games against UCLA and Notre Dame to take the trophy. Caleb Williams can do the same with another big night against the Irish.
  14. That’s great social media work by Lane. Notice how he doesn’t come out and say he will be coaching Ole Miss next year. Egg Bowl is Thursday night and he probably will be taking the Auburn job soon after.
  15. 1-1 tie is a fantastic result for USA because they played like complete dogshit. So ugly. Sloppy on defense along with a complete inability to generate any offense. Every cross into the box was easily defended by Wales. Hopefully this was just nerves from young side but they need to figure a lot of things out in a short time.
  16. Beauty of a 1st goal of the tourney for USMNT from Weah via Pulisic
  17. Goff probably doesn’t have the accuracy to consistently utilize the deep ball. I think Jaymo can be effective for this offense without even getting the ball. His speed, even as a decoy, forces a deep safety account for him opens up more of the middle of the field for our slot WR’s. Need to get him some game action before the season is over.
  18. This team is proof that good things can happen when you stop playing historically bad defense.
  19. First day of the tournament that serves as a side for FIFA’s massive global money grab. USA takes on Gareth Bale later today. I don’t see them making it out of group. Good young squad but I’m not a Berhalter fan.
  20. Big time dub! Bring on the Bills
  21. LFG!!! 3 in a row and legit in the playoff conversation
