Manning is so weird; a BB and then 3 Ks on 10 straight strikes -

I keep thinking that, now that it is "his" team that is embarrassing itself at the plate, Harris will feel compelled to add some established offense through FA or (more likely) trades. And I don't mean Carson Kelly. There will be a lot of growing pains integrating Meadows, Keith, Malloy, Perez and more from Toledo for sure (at the extent that those are not the guys traded.) -

Voter Fraud is not the problem, ELECTION fraud is
RatkoVarda replied to RatkoVarda's topic in Politics
GOP state rep arrested; does not live in his district; comically tried to pretend he did All of that despite everyone in the Alabama Republican Party – a party that had spent the last two years talking about election integrity and securing voting processes – knowing full well that Cole had, at best, skirted residency requirements and had likely committed some level of fraud in doing so. They didn’t care. In fact, they so much didn’t care that after an election challenge was filed by Elijah Boyd, a Libertarian candidate who lost to Cole in the general election, and the challenge was exposing, – under oath – just how absurd Cole’s residency issues were, some Republicans in the House attempted to sneak through a change to state election laws to get Cole out of trouble. https://www.alreporter.com/2023/08/30/opinion-theres-plenty-of-blame-to-go-around-in-the-david-cole-case/ -

Harris has been deliberate with his promotions (or slow if you prefer). Not sure 77 really good PAs by Leonard will force his hand. (And Baez isn't opting out.)
-
Tol scored 24, 7, 5, 16, and 10 runs this week, losing the 5 and 7 run games. Must make it difficult to evaluate these guys with the pitching so poor. Wenceel looks great since coming up.
-
that would be great, but how likely is it that Keith and Wenceel are both starting infielders, with Meadows in CF, and Malloy at LF/DH?
-
nice problem to have, but it will be interesting to see how they get ML looks through 2024 at all of Keith, W Perez, Leonard, Kriedler (if he can stay healthy), and Lipcius (if he is still in their plans), along with Jung. Those 6 combined with Maton, McKinstry, Vierling, Short and Ibanez give Harris lots of options, but maybe only one (Keith) or two (Keith and Jung?) are ML starter caliber, the rest are bench bats, platoon bats, utility guys, and AAAA guys. Nevin, even though he is raking, I assume will lose his 40 man spot; as will Isan Diaz.

"Just so you know, Trump has paid last month's $30K legal bill I sent, so you have nothing to worry about. Nothing at all. Now, did Trump really tell you to do this? That can't be true, right?"

https://blogs.fangraphs.com/troy-melton-is-a-tigers-pitching-prospect-on-the-rise/ “What he brings to the table, first and foremost, is stuff. The fastball gets up to the high 90s. He can really spin it — it’s a solid 17-20 inches of vertical break — and pitch to the top of the zone. He’s understanding how to get to the bottom of the zone in quality areas. That’s kind of the next step in his development. He pitches with confidence. And he throws a bunch of strikes. He’s that combination of good stuff, good metrics, competitor, and strike-thrower. Put those together and what you have is a pitcher with a chance to have a pretty good career. He’s got a chance to be a two or a three on a good big league team. I like his ceiling.”

Madrigal has Harris skills, he should look at trading for him this winter; zero power but could work as part of the mix at 2B; poor fit at 3B -

Vierling should be a good bench guy next year as he complements Keith at 3B and all the LH OFs -

Baez obviously is not opting out; he has the lowest K rate of his career; I really think they are trying to turn him into a player he is not -

just not optionable; if he just put up a 725 OPS vs RHP, he would stay in Det as a solid bench piece. should survive all Winter; needs to beat out McKinstry and Wenceel Perez next Spring -

if rosters expand on Sept 1, and they recall Maton, I think they avoid burning his last option. same thing happened earlier this year when he went to Toledo for 2 weeks. So they may end up with an option to use next year. Not sure if that is a good thing or not. -

K% is not everything, but Rogers and Dingler probably strike out too much for Harris's liking, so Kelly and Sands may very well be the 2024 duo. Seems to me the best duo is Kelly/Rogers (if healthy they could get you up to 4+ WAR), but if Rogers' value has peaked, then Harris probably is shipping him out. They are not going to have 4 catchers on the 40, so either they risk losing Dingler in Rule 5 draft, release Sands, or trade Rogers. -
looking at 14.8% chance to make the playoffs, LAA made a ton of moves at the trade deadline and then proceeded to lose 7 in a row; and have gone 4-4 since; now looking at 0.9% chance to make the playoffs. and they started their top pick's clock early. and Ohtani is leaving, though maybe not leaving LA.

I missed this. Lynn is drinking the cool-aid. Worried that Harris will have to deal with roster crunch when all the prospects come up. Baez will be gone in a year (though he does not say who will replace him.) It is a glorious new day under Harris (even though most of these guy were brought in by Avila.) Henning: TigerTown’s steady talent uptick shows what’s coming Detroit’s way The hard part for Harris will be in shoring up soft spots and sorting out an overload of similarly skilled — and similarly deficient — guys at too many positions (specifically, outfield, third base, and second base).

think this was posted elsewhere but it is just tribalism; something seen as bad, is seen as good if Trump did it As if you needed it, here’s more evidence that the GOP base has become a cult. In a lengthy story about the DeSantis Slump, the New Yorker’s Benjamin Wallace-Wells includes this nugget:

looks like Trump's lawyers said no to the witness tampering/obstruction of justice really on Monday. no matter, I think he will have the post-processing rally described above and commit all the same crimes then
