wonder if that jeopardizes his "job" with the Tigers?

I keep meaning to have my plumber replace all my valves with the 1/4 turn ball valves. He told me to turn those every few months to keep fresh. Like when you change furnace filters or shut off outside faucets. He also said to get rid of your garbage disposal. Or at least don’t use it. Dump all your food. are those 1/4 turn valves up to code for toilets?

You are right. I looked him up after posting this. But just in general I am not sure I want any long term deals for awhile for anyone. This org if they are doing well what they claim then those players should be coming up in the system. Get to the 86-90 win range then we can talk a breakout signing. Get a solid system then then you are less beholden to them on the back end when they fade. Cut them loose.

Yes. It sure was. It was streaming as of very recently but appears to be taken down again.

They could have kept Cabrera but didn't want to. That's different from not being able to.

I wonder if Mahomes wishes he could he a free agent in a league without CBT instead of a salary cap?

I got some from the Tigers and frankly don't know what to do with them. Not even sure how I find them wherever they are. They sent me a link, I opened an app or something, and there 'it' was. Ok... great. Now what?

shut off the main water. Or look for another shutoff upstream to the kitchen faucets. I do that now rather than mess with those individual valves. I got burned once when swapping out a dishwasher where my shutoff valve wouldn't close back up and it was a Sunday... Of course that is dependent upon you being able to fix it or be in a position to turn it back on without any issues.

NFT's are still a thing?

7 franchises have won the last 10 super bowls, 9 franchises have won the last 10 world series, including the aforementioned Royals. It's apples and oranges anyway because you build the teams different. There's a lot more development and international work that goes on in MLB.

The difference is the NFL teams are not reliant on local TV contracts and markets. They also have a more stringent salary cap I believe. The Salary Cap is basically the TV money. The teams split that evenly, at the national level. And given the nature of the draft it's probably easier for bad teams to get good considering your top draft picks are very often impact players. I don't see it as better but I'm not a football guy. It brings me no special joy that KC wins over LA or NY. They both are not Detroit so who cares?

"Queers for Palestine" shut down the Manhattan Bridge last night. If you want more proof of the intellectual level at play among the pro palestinians in this country I can't find a better example. This is Chappelle's "only black man in the KKK" level stuff.

agree.... as a fan I have payroll fatigue. I'm tired of seeing guys out there just because we are paying them and they are under a big contract. I don't want to see any Justin Uptons or Jordan Zimmermans for awhile. Fans just think players are items on a shelf in a store and you pick up what you want and that's all there is to it. Or you can trade a couple of bad players for a good player because 3+3+3 = 9.

given the local media landscape we have one guy who wants to be a shock jock podcaster so that has to be a draw.... then there's twitter.

And Ohtani with his endorsement income is unique in being able to make this decision. This will not become a normal thing beyond what it was a week ago. It’s a difference of degree and nobody can touch his marketing impact personally. He’s getting his money now from endorsements. He has that luxury. Everyone else doesn’t.

You are the one confusing things. The NHL has and had a hard cap. MLB doesn’t. The CBT is intended as a deterrent but it’s not a rule. There are penalties to be paid. The CBA specifically says there’s no limit on deferrals. this deal doesn’t really alter the landscape in my opinion. If you were told he signed a $450M deal for 10 years is that crazy? No.
-
The purpose isn’t what you think it is.
-
Wrong. Why would they be expected to pay on $70M when that’s not the actual value? The “luxury tax” was supposed to do what the text of the rules allows the clubs to do. Ohtani wasn’t going to end up in Pittsburgh or Colorado or Baltimore. The luxury tax or CBT is not a salary cap. It’s within the rules and didn’t severely alter the pay landscape.

It’s no different than not paying taxes today on your investments you will get in 20 years isn’t it? Why should they be taxed on money not being paid? Massive is a subjective term.

They should change the name from Plays to Events. I see your point. Probably why nothing excites me more than a well executed relay throw from the outfield to 3B or the plate. Even if my team is on the losing side. I will never fault a team for going for it if it takes 2 or 3 great things to occur to get the runner out. The play by the OF go get the ball. His throw. The infielders catch and subsequent throw. The next fielders catch and tag. All of those things are failure points and good execution is like a ballet. It’s beautiful.

Good one. For some reason that show never got on my radar. I think it was simply that I had stuff going on Sunday nights. I’ve seen the show and know it’s funny. It’s made me laugh obviously. But I just never consistently watched. Same with The Office and Parks and Rec.

The league should be fine with it. I'm a little surprised the MLBPA would be ok but I haven't and can't do the Present vs Future value math right now but I would bet the present value, and the value over the next 10 years compared to the following 10 years means the dollar amount is not insane. I messed around with it a few days ago and had figures like $37M = $70M in 10 years. But on the surface getting $20M for the next 10 years, then $680M in years 11-20..... not outrageous to me. The question to ask is what is the value in years 1-10 compare to the corresponding years 11-20? I.E. Value of a year's in 2028 vs 2038. In the year 2038 he'll get paid $68M. We've been saying this since 1975, 'In year X, $YM will seem like peanuts".
