We don't even know who did this yet given that Trump's handpicked FBI agent, who isn't qualified to run a Hardees let alone one of the largest law enforcement agencies in the US, has thus far been ****ing up the case.

Nonetheless, the asymmetry in how the center left-to-left is expected to act in these moments and how the right gets to act in a moment of violence against the center left-to-left (see most recently the Hortman murders) is incredibly frustrating.

200 yards is a pretty simple shot for anyone who isn't new to shooting.  Hell, when I was in the Army and qualifying with the M-16, we had targets out to 300 meters and were expected to hit them with iron sights.

I shoot quite a bit and 200 yards for a single lethal shot is no mean feat.   Stable platform, prone, not running around with chem gear on would help.  Modern optics would make that much easier.   Shooter was perhaps waiting for Kirk to say school shootings bit to make their point.

The MLK comparison I saw about an hour ago literally made me LOL.

Parasocial manipulation is a thing, and I have been workshopping a take on how it has been behind our current situation...

He's a uniquely internet/social media phenomenon, I'm sure some folks connect on a para social level with him. But I do wonder what the actual % of Americans who have actually heard of him before today.

Which makes all of the media takes and the moment of silence at the Yankees game even more bizarre... this wasn't Kobe Bryant going down in a helicopter, yet the coverage is almost matching it

I went to a concert at Pine Knob yesterday which meant I was occupied with getting ready and driving out there, etc.  No time to really digest this.  But my brief scrolling showed me lots of empathy and concern for someone who didn't do the same for others.  He wasn't a nice person to people he disagreed with and in this situation those same people were nice to him and his family.  I reject that in today's world "both sides are the same"

To the point about Matthew Dowd losing his gig, public commentary is almost compelled to whitewash or sanitize this aspect of Kirk's personality.

Totally understand the idea of turning down the temperature and being the adults and all of that, but increasing irritated with this idea that we are supposed to tell lies about who he was, how he comported himself, etc.

Was it you who invoked Kobe? I kinda felt the same way the day he died. All this support all over social media gushing about him that I didn't think was warranted. For Kobe, it was the rape. For Kirk, it was the hate.

Yeah, it was, and to be honest Kobe wasn't necessarily someone to celebrate either for the same reasons you describe. But it was more understandable in the sense that he's at least someone who had significant name recognition among the general public.... I don't think Kirk has the same name ID and tend to think the coverage is reflected by his name ID among those with large megaphones (ie. politics and media world) versus those in the broader public.

Shooter still hasn't been caught? Could that point back to the gutting of the fbi?

The FBI being led by someone who couldn't organize a three car funeral doesn't help either.

Made this point a bunch last year to a certain someone cheering on his appointment.... focusing on the POTUS's fishing expeditions comes at a cost to the basic blocking/tackling that the FBI is responsible for.

Not surprisingly, Trump's address to the nation about this horrible event was stupid and political.

In today’s America, everything is political. All day, everyday.

Much time has passed but don’t forget the belief Kobe committed rape is your opinion and absolutely not proven to be factual.

I am of the opinion that he had consensual sex with a young woman that made up a story afterwards because she had no explaination for her injuries down there.   This has also not proven to be factual either.

It was very easy to make the address nonpolitical.  Every other President, regardless of party, has known how to do that in a time of tragedy.
