This is what I hate about MLB. The Tigers were the ones that found Skubal in the 9th round. They were the ones who developed him. They were the ones who had the patience while he dealt with injury. Now the Dodgers will get to swoop in, having done none of the hard work, and offer more money than anyone else over 10 years. They can afford to eat the back half of his contract while he’s buried in the bullpen. Paul Skenes will be in their rotation by then.

Yup, it stinks.

But looking at it in a different light, they got a heck of a return for 9th round pick.  Over 18 WAR.  A Cy Young award and maybe another.  A couple of playoff appearances that he had a major (left) hand in.  And the opportunity for another season or a significant haul.

Had to check a few times to make sure this was real.

He'll need to do something about the beard.  That's a reliever beard, not a manager beard.

I don’t think there’s any perfect solution that equally satisfies teams, players, and fans. The reserve clause helped teams and fans but not players. Free agency helps players and some teams and their fans, but not other teams and their fans. I guess that’s the mark of a really good compromise: when it happens, no one is completely happy with it.

I dislike the facade that fox sports is putting on. Everyone with a brain can tell Arod, Jeter and Papi aren’t buddies and probably can’t stand each other. It’s so contrived and fake how they try to pretend those guys are old friends.

The handoffs where they refer to each other by name are completely awkward.

When the playoffs started and those people were in the studio I went immediately mute. A root canal might be more fun.

Heartbreak for the Mariners.  Not that you can expect Julio to lay off a full count slider with 2 outs, but if he had taken it would have been a walk with Raleigh coming to the plate. That would have been something.

Professional sports are cruel. Only one team can win it all each year. Baseball seems like such a long haul too. 162 games, and then multiple series to get to the finish line. I feel for Mariners fans, never having made it to the final series. Go home and start all over again next year. The boulder of Sisyphus. Every Lions fan knows that pain.

When it’s not my team, I’m interested in stories. I like the story of Seattle never making it to a World Series in their entire 48 year history.

I took the same pleasure with the long losing streaks of the Cubs, Sox and Sawks. Then they all blew it by winning.

So I have Seattle, which doesn’t matter except October of 25 so it’s not a sustained enjoyment, and I have Cleveland 1948. I thoroughly enjoy that.

Springer got dinged with a HBP in Game 5 that knocked him out of the game and Jays fans were ticked that some Mariners fans seemed to have cheered that. So he gets revenge with today’s Springer Dinger.

Agony for lifelong Mariners fan Mina Kimes in Detroit to work MNF when her Mariners were in a Game 7. She said earlier today she “couldn’t feel her face” due to the stress. Springer’s homer was about 5 minutes after the Lions game ended.

Feel bad for Seattle. Their manager left their closer in the bullpen during the key moment of the game. At least we know Hinch wouldn't do that. Gotta be a crusher for their fans.

Now it's on to the team that got Ohtani and the team that got close. Shohei v Vladdy. Japan  v Canada.

I am happy to see that Toronto won.  I remember when they were both expansion teams and I liked Toronto better and still do.  I have never cared for Seattle for no special reason.

All season long I felt like Toronto was the best team in the AL and they proved it.  Was glad the Lions game ended when it did so I could watch completely and see Springer's HR.  My wife used to not care about the Lions.  I did see the 3 DP's Toronto turned.

To this point, I gotta believe that Dan Wilson mismanaged the Mariners out of the Series.

Thank you.
