Sorry if this has been discussed already but has anybody else noticed that Jason Benetti's voice sounds almost identical to how Mario Impemba sounded?  It's uncanny.  Hopefully he doesn't get into any arguments with Dan Petry over who gets to sit in the comfy chair.

Anyway sorry for the useless thread.  I just find it amusing how identical their voices sound.

I haven’t thought of Mario in quite a while. But I think Mario was slightly deeper voiced and Jason is a little bit more on the nasal side, which is not a criticism at all just an observation.

I know a lot of people don’t like Jason‘s playfulness and I often listen to the radio broadcast synced with the TV simply because I enjoy Dan a lot.

I don’t have a problem with Jason’s stream of consciousness forays but sometimes they can indeed be a distraction. This hasn’t kept him from being hired on a number of national broadcasts though. And he’s not a happy laughing, toothy talking head. He strikes me as having more substance. He definitely isn’t hired for his looks, which is something he makes jokes about.

The thing is, his playfullness isn't forced.  I think he's just a well read pop culture guy who's mind works that way.  He could have had a career in morning radio back when that was a big thing.  The drops.  The quick cuts to something related to the subject.  His makes his references too fast for me to think they are planned or scripted.  It's just what pops in his head.

Excellent insight yes, his playfulness isn’t forced.

Jason is a product of the era...pop culture and social media fluent and kind of a non linear thinker.  If you are not in tune with that ...I imagine it's annoying.  Having been asked by people more  than once in conversations  "how did you get from point a to point in b mentally" I'm good with it.

I think the Petry broadcasts are better because he's more anchored in his approach  than Dirks...sometimes Jason, Dirks and Daniela go off into space on some weird observation and it gets annoying

Benetti is a good play by play man.  He is intelligent and sometimes humorous, but I think he over does the pop culture stuff for my tastes.  He is better with a straight man like Petry than Dirks who pushes him even further onto a tangent.  I do think Benetti is better than anyone they've had on TV for a long time.  Benetti/Petry and Dickerson/Dirks are their best combos.

That's my take, spot on. Well said.

I like Benetti and Dirks. A lot. It takes me back to Josh Lewin and Gibby. The nerd and the jock.

Jasons quickness and vast knowledge of a wide range of pop culture always amazes me. I’m quite certain that some of his references go right over a lot of peoples heads.

My brain operates in a similar fashion: when someone says something and i immediately have some movie quote or pop culture reference pop up. I don’t normally have the audience to verbalize them and, when I occasionally do, it has to be someone who gets it.

I've always thought that if everyone gets your joke, then the joke is probably not that funny.  The best humor has some subtlety and context to it that not everyone will get.  You can't please everyone.

Me too.  It gets me in trouble sometimes.  Just today in a call someone referenced a Monroney sticker. (It's the window sticker on your new car.  Federally regulated. named after former Sen. Mike Monroney who pushed it).  Now... I am 51.  Anybody else around my age... what/who do you think of when see that name?  One person on the call today got it.  You can probably guess what I said.

A lot of my jokes no one gets because they’d have to have watched a lot of television between 1960 and 1970 and that reduces the possibility of people catching the nuances of a joke. References to Leave it to Beaver, Petticoat Junction, the Beverly hillbillies, and Gilligans Island have gone past their date of expiration.

100%. National broadcast Benetti is the Benetti I thought we were getting, but we got a bit of a precocious teen instead. I think I'm the only Tiger fan alive who didn't like Lewin and Gibby's schtick, and thought Kirk was way better post-Lewin.

Happens all the time.

Benetti and Steve Stone were magic for the Sox. Too bad we don't have a Steve Stone here.

Nonsense. It's just that most of the good stuff was already done by 1970.

Oh. So you’re the one. 🤣

I recall you not being fond of Dan Dickerson when he first arrived on scene. You fixed that wrong so I have hope you’ll fix this one as well.

I think Dirks is a better game analyst than Petry and his presentation skill is better as well, but that is a different question than whether he and Benetti screw around more than they should, which they do.

I'd watch their feed whenever they played Detroit. Imho Stone is the best

Can you imagine Stone working with Dan Dickerson? Even I would be waylaid by the analytical overload.

Dan Dickerson is less analytical than he used to be.

I loved Harry Caray and Steve Stone doing the Cubs games on WGN when day games were still the norm there. I’d get in from work and immediately tune in to their games.
