Thank you Alex Cora!

No Duran, Bregman, Story, or Gonzalez.

I hope he’s also planning to rest both Whitlock and Chapman if he’s got the lead late.

I’m oddly confident that Montero will have a decent start today.  Something like 3 runs in 5 2/3 innings. Not superb, but if the Tigers would get a clutch hit for a change it could be good enough.

If in the off-season they traded Riley for two Steven Kwan type players and picked up a great reliever somewhere else I think I would be tickled pink. When you crunch the numbers, we’d be ahead of the game.

But I think everyone in baseball knows what Riley is up to except a team that’s analytics deficient like the Rockies.

Oh my gosh.  Migration days shouldn't be game days.   I need you magnificent bastards now.  You are my support system.

Okay three things

1.  The Red Sox are locked into their playoff position.  No going up or down here

2. The Red Sox might be hungover

3. The Red Sox HATE The Astros

Tigers, if you can't bring it tonight - you don't deserve it.

Boston would move down if the Tigers (and Cleveland) win the next 2. We would have the tie-breaker. Boston might prefer that? Play at Cleveland instead of in NY?

the thing with Riley is that he doesn't have to hit the way he does now - he certainly didn't last season. And this is kind of where I wonder where the Tiger coaches are. Earlier in the season everyone was talking about how Riley had shifted to the most extremely inclined swing in the majors. Now there is reason outliers are outliers, it's because you almost never find optimum performance at the extremes unless there is something extremely unusual about the player that makes him a physical outlier. Riley runs a little funny but there is really nothing that would lead you believe that he would be likely to be successful in a batting style that NO-ONE else succeeds with. I mean probabilities aren't rocket science. You better be able to prove your choice of an outlier style gets demonstrable results or your coaches should be on your case to get back to what normally works.

It may not be something he/they can change on the fly during the season. Riley is very close to being a big superstar. Get his strikeouts down to around 75 a season and watch him take off. He's really going to need to change his approach though.

Not to turn it into a trash on Bobby Scales thread, but how does one get a premier mlb radio gig by being as bad as he is without being some player who was a legend or hall of famer, etc.?

I could see if he was a great player and they gave him the gig but you mean to tell me there aren't other people out there who can actually articulate an actual thought?

I think he's pretty good, so I'm not the one to ask about this. Knows analytics and player dev stuff.
