One of the more depressing experiences I had was when I was leaving this downscale casino hotel I was staying at for a non-gambling thing I was doing in Vegas to go to the airport, 715am on a Sunday morning, and seeing just the most depressing group of people sitting at the slots, expressionless faces, mechanically putting coin after coin in the slot and pulling the arm, with all the computerized faux-festive music pouring out of the machines nonstop. oblong Posted November 28, 2023 Share Posted November 28, 2023 Casinos hire some very smart people, phd level smart, who know what triggers the chemicals in our brains. The sounds and sights are designed for that. That said I love going there. We don’t gamble. Just enjoy hanging out and people watching and driving out to the desert for a few hours. Haven’t been since February 2020 though. (We made fun of people wearing masks). It’s gotten kind of pricey to where we decide to go on a “real” vacation. I think we have 3 days 4 nights on a package with Marriott. Highlight will be a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon along with a Vegas at night flyby. It was either that or Chicago in concert.
