Now you have Skubal tonight and three games against the spiraling ATH. The losing streak had me wanting to blow it all up, but I wake up and check the playoff odds and standings and think it won't take much. Cleveland losing a bunch of games helps.

If you upgrade the pen you probably wreck your compensation picks

I just don't see them doing that.  Keeping Skubal and adding salary

Flags fly forever. Compensation picks become Christin Stewart.

I just want to keep hope alive.

No argument.   I've been optimistic when others gave up hope but this year, this team I just don't feel it.  I might feel different after the deadline.

I was one of the few predicting playoffs in August of 24:

I would probably take the Dodgers or the Rays one. Fangraphs just did a redo of the evaluation for the Dodgers system and  Hope and Root are both 50FV and Sernowski is 45+. Bodine is just an on-base machine who has power but doesn't strike out but another catcher in this system feels like overkill and Hopkins would slot right into the MLB rotation.

You know more on prospects than I so you're probably right.

If they make a deal I've been hoping for 2 OF prospects to increase the odds we hit on one.

I’m on vacation so kind of checked out but since when are playoff teams and seeding established in late July?  Verlander being the last active player in his 2017 trade is another data point.  You don’t give up a season just because you are afraid of a player leaving.

The Tigers, White Sox and Guardians all went 1-3 in the past 4 games, so all it really meant was the Tigers treading water for a few days. Did lose a bit of ground to Minnesota and Houston.

Problem is treading water is just lost opportunity that makes the percentage of remaining games you must win go up and it starts to get to an unrealistic number pretty quickly.

They're 0.5 GB in the wildcard and 2.0 GB in the division.  They should be trying to make the playoffs.

I live in Minneapolis and yes, the Twins need to try and get in this year. The near total sell-off last season left a lot of fans around here bewildered and ticked off. To sell again while knocking on the post season door would only agitate the fan base more

Yeah, they have to beat the under .500 clubs. It's crazy that their record is better vs over .500 teams. I'm having 1 run losses in my nightmares. And for some reason Les Moss is the manager in those dreams

On Hope: Replace him with one of Sirota or Eduardo Quintero (further away... but I think I'm getting on board his bandwagon as he is similar to Sirota with high hit, high OBP, and enough power to make it work...), and then say yes.

On Bodine: I believe his catching acumen is supposed to be superior to Valencia, Briceno, or Liranzo.

I would like adding Bodine very much as he immediately becomes our #2 catcher to Dingler (I mean, when/ if he gets to MLB...), and as a high hit/ high OBP/ some power switch-hitter... I think he gets LOTS of play, even aside from backup catcher. I'm very high on him and if the Tigers were to get him, I see a high amount of play, and a high level of play, for him on our team.

Just my 2 cents.

i dont think its that black and white

What your post leaves out is the potential of getting good players that could help in a year or five. While that is not always the outcome, that is the thought. Ok player X is goinng to leave cause i cant afford, is it the best ROI to try this year or get more bodies for a future run

I wonder why they're speculating INF when we need OF?

Because the Tigers are not an east coast team so ESPN doesn’t know anything about them.

True.  But with a few of these teams—namely the Rays, Brewers and Mariners….you gotta play hardball with them.  Their respective GMs could significantly increase their already good shots at making a World Series and getting their organization its first ever title immortalizes the staff.  You want to step up and go after the Dodgers and Yankees?  Prove it.  Don’t let them feel like they can buy what they need without feeling it on the back end.  How many top prospects did we part with during our decade of competitiveness?

That being said, you treat the Dodgers/Yankees/etc the same way, they just aren’t going to feel the pinch like teams that are economically similar to us would.  Nobody would give us anything last year because we wouldn’t give up Melton or McGonigle—why should these teams get Skubal if they aren’t sending their best of the best in return?  And then we heard all about how other GMs thought Harris was being tough to work with and unreasonable in his demands….ok well we have maybe the biggest trade piece in the last 20 years on the market—so let’s see how reasonable these other GMs will supposedly be when they try to buy.

Gotta sack up and be aggressive in getting what we want, not settling for what we will be given.  This is war.

This sounds good until every one of those teams say no to emptying out the top of their system for him, and so we have to choose between getting whatever we can get, or keep him. Honest question, which would you want?

If we don't get a great haul I'm all for keeping him and making a run.  I may be wrong but I'm convinced there's a great haul out there.
