Western intelligence sources estimate that each side has suffered approximately 150,000 casualties since Russia launched its invasion on Feb. 24, 2022, Agence France-Presse reported.

Norway’s defense chief Gen. Eirik Kristoffersen said last month on Norwegian TV that the most recent intelligence suggests that Ukraine has lost 100,000 troops and 30,000 civilians in the course of the war.

Meanwhile, Kristoffersen said Russia had 180,000 soldiers who were either wounded, killed or missing.

More recently, US officials said Russian casualties are fast approaching 200,000, according to reporting from the New York Times, citing American and other Western officials.

I have a hard time believing you could find 3 in 10 of even the most interventionist US sub cohort willing to send troops to Ukraine so that makes me doubt what the Economist baked into their question biases. Of course the other big question reading a survey presented like this is did they force party ID or only include party self-identifiers? >50% of the US self-identifies as independent - so are they in the survey or not and if not where are they?

Quote

BC News journalist Keir Simmons recently went to Crimea and reported that most Crimeans are pro-Russia.

"Is Crimea Russia or Ukranian?" the reporter asked a 73-year-old woman on the street.

"Russian," she answered.

"Crimea is Russian?" Simmons followed up.

"Duh," the woman said.

"Zelensky will not get Crimea back because we have our commander in chief, Putin," another Crimea denizen told the NBC reporter.

"Every one of them told us they are Russian and if President Zelensky thinks that Ukrainian forces can come here they will fight them," Simmons reported. "President Zelensky said the Ukraine war started here and it will end here. But no one was able to tell us how it will end and how much more blood will be spilled."

In short, it is easier for Russia to hold land, than for Ukraine to go on the Offensive. Ukraine is also having the challenge of Western nations having already sent equipment they were willing to part with.

I have seen news articles both sides are looking to launch an offensive in the South. Its hard to get a good picture of the situation. But the war for sure will come down to logistics. The longer it drags on the more willing Ukraine will be willing to park with territory. There could also be some sort of cease fire agreement, without sides having to relinquish claims on territory. But that seems a long long way off.

Is that why Russia lost all the land they held north of Kiev?

And all the land they held in Kharkiv Oblast (Province)?

And all the land they held west of the Dnieper River, including Kherson City and its north & west surroundings?

And Snake Island?

You're not very good at this.

Try again.

Personally, I don't think it's the Russians at all.

It's anti-Russians IMO... although I don't know if that means a Ukrainian saboteur team, or anti-Russian Germans or other...

On the Nord Stream attack...

Not Ukrainian official military... but some Pro-Ukrainian group...

he understands what he's trying to do.  he's paving the way for the guys who invested heavily in russia and the politicians there who invested in them.  Their politics are a bit heavy but certainly no different than what MTG or Kari Lake or Trumps's drunk doctor want to do with anyone who disagrees with them.

And is not even capable of, even as it is being typed out, in black & white...

The absolute absurdity of what is being typed.

It's more important to spew talking points than to actually understand the validity of... anything.

The damage was at 80 meters, which means the sabateurs really didn't need to mount that big an expedition to do the job. The early reporting implied only a state actor would have had the resources, and that is probably accurate if we have been talking about a spot in +1000ft of water. But mixed gas scuba divers can reach 80m, not to mention commercially purchasable submersibles.

The more critical issue would be the specific type of explosives and the timers.

I forgot what was mentioned in that regards... or maybe nothing was published/ public yet on that...? Could still be under investigation...

I like the theory that it Poles did it to boost the marketing of their new pipeline. 🤔

The 80 meters thing really puts it in a new light to me. It really could be have been anyone or any kind of free lance team. A 40 ft fishing boot with station keeping thrusters and a gps is all the surface presence necessary.

also-Report in the twitterverse that something in Berdyansk was blown up this evening.

This comes from the same corner as colored people made white people lynch them because they were too uppity, and women make men rape them because they wear short skirts.

Logic is still logic if its made of pretzels.  Evidence is still evidence if its circumstantial.

Right...

Russia has interfered with European & American elections through online influence campaigns, dark money funding campaigns, and straight up cyber attacks, starting in 2016 (or before), has attacked multiple democracies (Georgia and Ukraine to start with) starting in 2009 and 2014, is militarily trying to destroy/ genocide/ rape, murder, torture, kidnap Ukraine...

But Biden started the cold war.

Exactly. You are correct chas.
