This kinda gets to something I have seen all the time prior to this war... the almost standard assumption that every piece of leverage is asymmetrical in a way that advantages Russia. Place sanctions on Russia? Can't do that, they'll pull Russian gas that the Germans et. al need (despite the fact that if Germans et. al aren't buying gas, Russia doesn't make any money). Give weapons to Ukraine? Can't do that, we risk Putin shooting off a nuke (despite MAD / our own nukes). It's almost like the entire world gaslit themselves into thinking this guy is impregnable and cannot be stood up to. And even as we have learned over the past month that he's not, some still seem to be doing this. He can still do a lot of bad, but people need to stiffen their spines a little more. The past month has told us that he's not a God.3 points

We get excited whenever he goes on a little hot streak because we remember how great he was and we hope he makes a comeback, but it's not going to happen. He had a great career, but now he's just hanging on way past his utility. He's been a replacement level player the last five years. I'd rather see guys like Reyes, Cameron, Hill and Paredes get more at bats.2 points

It took a little doing and a new account, apparently there has been some changes but MERRY BEATDOWN DAY!2 points

There is a huge difference between Hunter Biden and the Trump kids. Maybe not so much Don Jr. but the others. Eric and Ivanka are intelligent and successful in business. Yes, they've had help because of who they are but they fend for themselves. Ivanka's husband played a big part in the peace deals between Israel and Arab countries that no one else had accomplished and the same ones liberals and people here want to sweep under the rug. Don Jr. is more of a chip off the ole block of his father but still nowhere near as bad as Hunter. Hunter is a whore chasing drug addict who biggest accomplishment in life is having sex with his brother's wife. Everything he has done is because of his father and his father's name. Does anyone really think he could sell one of those paintings if his father wasn't Joe Biden? Would he be making millions in Ukraine and China if his father didn't get him those jobs?2 points

Durham is on my want to visit list this year. I have a doctors appointment at Duke the week Norfolk is there. May have to check into tickets. May need to talk the wife into a ballpark tour this summer, Richmond is just up the road, there is family in Roanoke (Salem), Lynchburg is on the way, maybe add Fredericksburg to the mix.2 points

The night the Wings actually won the Stanley Cup. The rest of the season and playoffs were just a victory lap.1 point

Totally. And not just opponents, but also the fact that his gaffes would be framed as being part of his appeal to the base and whatnot. Very similar to how Putin gets treated in the press1 point

I like the comparison to The Crown, it seems apt. I will say that I find it really weird that supporters of the Republican Party, which gave us Reagan, just seem really wobbly about Putin. Now, I get that he has nukes and that is important and all, but even after a largely failed first month of this conflict and a domestic situation that seems far weaker for them, on account of sanctions, there is still this desire to walk on eggshells in regards to this guy. I keep bringing up Reagan because, if that guy were around today, he wouldn't be doing that. He wouldn't be worried about Putin's feelings or emotions. I could easily see him giving a speech and saying something as forceful or even more forceful. I dunno, it's just strange to see people talking about how the world is "laughing at us" and how we are "weak" who simultaneously seem to live in fear of Putin's shadow.1 point

You apparently are ignoring two key points: 1) This appears to amount to Vice President Biden seemingly going to one dinner. 2) The second involved a business venture that Hunter tried to set up ... So this amounts to Joe Biden apparently refusing some deal Hunter tried to enmesh him in. In other words: Much Ado about NOTHING.1 point

I think to the degree that the West can successfully personalize the war and keep naming it as "Putin's War" that is a good strategy in terms of value of whatever news penetrates into Russia. Beyond that that - we'll see.1 point

I understand. In the grand scheme of things, its something for Biden Derangement Syndrome types to latch onto but isn't the end of the world. In the grand scheme of things, he's done a good job... the world is united (ie. not laughing) in opposition to the dictator. We are giving the Ukrainians what they need to fight back. We are hitting back with sanctions that bite. Given that, I can live with the occasional rhetorical mistake. And I dont think anything that Biden has said to date has done anything to push us closer to a world war...1 point

It's not senility, it's just who he has been for his whole political career. I think he's done a good job over the past month in a difficult time. This was a emotional mistake though, as evidenced by an immediate, hard walk back by White House officials.1 point

lol "it's obvious that....." and then a bunch of not evidence, and an admission that you actually don't know whether or not it mattered. total snoozer per yoosh1 point

They were each other's most interesting opponent especially from 1985 to about 1989, without them actually disliking each other, or the opponent's fans hating them Except that I would imagine that Jack Morris was insanely jealous of Dave Stieb.1 point

Of the 10 parks in North Carolina currently home to an affiliated team, I would encourage folks to attend a game in Asheville (Tourists) and a game in Kinston, NC. (Down East Wood Ducks) Both of these parks are yesteryear parks and lack some of the creature comforts newer parks offer. However, both parks are unique in their own ways and both parks have their own histories. i’ve been to both parks numerous times over the years and hope to get to them both again this season. They will both face difficulties I believe in satisfying MLB’s mandates for upgrades. I hope I am wrong on this. Last year my wife and I completed a “bucket list” item that had been out there a while. We have now been to a game in all 10 active minor league parks in North Carolina. Three new parks in the state in the past several years put us in the catch up mode.1 point

I have been around for the entire Blue Jays history and I don't remember them having a big rivalry with the Tigers. It was not recognized as a rivalry nationally, but maybe it was considered one locally. I think in order for there to be a serious good rivalrvy between two teams, they need to be good at the same time which didn't happen too often with the Tigers and Blue Jays. As a fan, I remember wanting the Tigers to beat the Orioles (when they were really good), Yankees and Red Sox. Other than 1987, I didn't consider the Blue Jays to be a hated opponent.1 point

I don't think Joe Biden is innocent with respect to his son's dealings. However, that seems like run of the mill political corruption versus an attempt to tear down the basis of our democracy.1 point

The best one was Tavai. ESPN didn't even have a highlight package for Tavai. They have highlight packages for 7th rounders and undrafted free agents and not for a 2nd round pick.1 point

Small sample size and with the usual spring caveat, but Baddoo's ABs against left handed pitching may be the most encouraging thing to come out of spring training thus far.1 point

Well, sure, as long as it’s being allowed, of course Democrats aren’t going to unilaterally lay down their arms and get rolled over in the dark funding game. And I grant there are Democrats who are just fine playing in that muck. My belief is that, funding aside, in strictly a marketplace of ideas, absent either dark funding or dramatic funding imbalances, and with a free and fair election landscape in play in which literally everyone who is eligible to vote can do so if only they wish to, today’s Republican Party would get slaughtered by todays’ Democratic Party. I would like to see dark money banned outright, for everyone, regardless.1 point
