Willi hasn't played enough for his fielding stats to mean much, but has clearly and grossly misjudged two balls out of a small number of chances. I not sure I want to wait until the stats prove out what we can see already - He's not good at judging fly balls.2 points

Bullpen games are what they are, but I dont understand why you can't bring in a pitcher who maybe has better peripherals or stuff to handle the inning with the top of the lineup. It isn't like there's a rule saying the two long guys have to pitch back to back....2 points

Are you speaking specifically here or the GOP in general? You have to have been under a rock for the last 40 yrs to believe that isn't true of today's GOP in it's direct appeal to America's Christian Taliban.2 points

Fantastic! Always room for another pitcher on the roster to take losses in Quality Starts!1 point

because the computer says LEFT!/RIGHT!. I'm as big as anyone on the importance of handedness in baseball. To this day I will never understand why DD didn't seem to care about it at all. But there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. One of the problems in working in complex systems is that you can easily start making mistakes based on measurement bias. We can measure platoon splits very accurately, Rdrs is kinda shaky, especially in less than a couple of seasons. So the temptation is strong to pay a lot of attention to what you measured and give shorter shrift to what you can't, even if on some level you realize it may be more important that you are giving it credit for. But you can answer your critiques by pointing at the numbers you have much easier than arguing your vague notions about the importance of what you have softer data about.1 point

I think utility is Clemens ultimate role anway, so it wouldn't be a waste to find out if he can handle that role. Chances are he is another Castro, but it probably wouldn't hurt to give him a shot.1 point

A hard throwing right hander who won't be ready for three or more years and then gets hurt when they call him up.1 point

Lol, I actually agree with you, but not sure how much that helps your case😄1 point

I don't think Willi Castro should be our starting left fielder from now on. I'm just not blind with rage that Hinch put him out there, not once, not twice, not thrice, but four times. I understand that Hinch was trying to do his best to juggle the garbage lineup he has to work with. No one agrees with me. That's fine. I don't care. I'll think what I think, and you don't have to like it if you don't want. But hey, at least you guys got to score a lot of points off me. That was fun, right? 😅1 point

Or even at replacement level on defense! Seriously, the the Astros broadcasters spent the better part of Friday and Saturday lampooning the fact that AJ sent him out there. And I can't blame them... he just can't play the position1 point
-
Absolutely no one is blaming Hinch because guys aren't hitting. We are just citing an instance in which what seemed to us as an extremely dumb lineup construction was responsible for a loss.1 point

It works like this: Hinch was a genius last year when things were going well, but April was not his fault. This season is not his fault either. It's Avila's fault, but if they get healthy and start playing well, it will be because Hinch is a genius.1 point

Agreed, it isn't good. If you know you are going to have trouble scoring runs, always use actual outfielders in the outfield, not shortstops who can't play short or catchers who can't catch. That loss is going to bug me for a long time.1 point

I'm fine with ranked choice in primaries, but what I'd like even better is to require run-offs in generals if no-one gets >50%. Especially in Presidentials. Too many guys get to the WhiteHouse on minority pluralities thanks to 3rd party mischief.1 point

you still may not like the development system but Schoop, Baez, Meadows, Haase, Candelario aren't slumping because of it.1 point

But, as you know already, no one was suggesting any of those alternatives. Hill in center, Baddoo in left.1 point

And he stubbornly started Willi in left again the next night, which I was going to yell about but then I thought nah, what's the point?1 point

TLDR. I really don't care what your negative opinion is. I love Tiger baseball and if that upsets you, you could always go knit a sweater. And I hope you realize that's code for what you can go do to yourself.1 point
-
The reason the Tigers are so bad have nothing to do to with the payroll. So you aren't even complaining about the correct problem. We are 5 years into a rebuild and we do not have a home grown prospect in the lineup that wasn't drafted #1 overall. No franchise, especially one not located in New York or Los Angeles, can compete without developing homegrown cost controlled talent.1 point

But when they got it going and turned it around last year with the big club, it was all because of Hinch and the coaching staff. Too bad the old forum is gone, because the receipts would be easy to find. And when it happens again this year (because it probably will to a degree), it'll be because of Hinch. So now that things aren't going, why does Hinch avoid credit for that as well? It logically doesn't make sense. I like AJ and hope he manages here for a long time, but the fanbase sort of wants it both ways when they credit him in the good times and deflect blame from him during the bad.1 point

Even Dan said just now on the radio that it felt like the Astros had the lead even when it was 0-0. When even the guy being paid to put a diplomatic spin on bad play says something like that, thats a real indication of how rotten things are under the hood.1 point

I agree, but tell that to the moral majority that's always going around telling us what terrible people we all are for supporting abortion, gay marriage, LGBTQ equality, and public assistance programs for the poor. The moral majority always wants to selectively throw the bible in our face and demand we obey their version of Christianity. So if they do that, then throw the bible back at them.1 point

Games like today happen. If the Tigers continue to put 13 guys on base, with some extra base power, as they did today, they will start scoring more runs. Problem hasn't necessarily been hitting with men on base it's been getting men on base and hitting for power. Maybe today is the start of something.1 point

watched part of the magic johnson doc on apple last night. saw the first two episodes. isiah gets a lot of air time. but anyway, it reminded me of mchale's clothesline of rambis or magic's forearm to isiah's head. now those were intentional hard fouls. dirty fouls. i was telling my wife, if you did thst nowadays you'd get a 10 game suspension, back then you got a regular foul call and a finger wag to not do it again. different game today when what brooks did is considered "out of line" by kerr. but kerr is a jack ass. draymond greene is still on his team, is he not? hypocrite.1 point

I grew in the Big Red Machine era and they were frequently on national TV which was a big deal back then. They were one of the most exciting teams I have seen in my life. Thus, I have always liked the Reds.1 point
