I can't really say that Avila is as incompetent as people say. I don't know enough. I just see other re-building teams seemingly making more successful trades and acquiring more international talent and wonder why the Tigers lag behind. After several years of re-building, the results are disappointing and I think it's time to move on.4 points

I dont think Henning has an "anti FA attitude". I think he noted the failure of the Dombrowski regime to invest in and provide a viable farm system. I think that criticism is valid, in spite of DD's success.4 points

To me it often comes back to a matter of "crimes against the sport" vs. just "normal crimes." And I know that this won't sit well with a number of people, but the NFL's job isn't to police and punish for "normal crimes." If an NFL player goes out and drives drunk he should be held accountable for this crime the same way as if any ordinary joe drove drunk... the criminal justice system should punish that person. Now, "crimes against the sport" are another thing. These things (generally speaking) are completely legal outside of the the sport. Your average Joe and go and bet that his favorite team will lose its upcoming game... that's 100% legal (assuming he's doing it in a legal manner), no problems, no issues, no police, no court, no jail time or fines or anything. If Tom Brady goes to a casino and bets on his team to lose... well, that's a major issue. This is a "crime against the sport" and the league has to punish heavily because they are the only one who will. Watson's accusers had their day(s) in court. The grand jury (where the prosecution lays out their case without the defense being able to say anything) didn't find enough evidence to indict. Many of the civil cases are settled. That's the courts punishing Watson for his "normal crimes" against society. Anything the NFL does on top of that is more window dressing and for PR reasons than anything else.2 points

Just bewildering. Is Hinch still running the front office, or is it Avila who does the dumb stuff, or is it both of them?2 points

Identify the guys that can get outs at the big league level, get them there as quick as reasonably possible, and use them how you need to until they break. That's the strategy and that's the reality. Anything else is all bull shit.2 points

I think D is right overall, regardless of the megamillions ticket, not just because of the reliever trades he made, but because of the reliever trades he didn't make.2 points

If he’s going to retire after this season, they should’of traded him.1 point

He’s not playing next year. I have been saying that for some time now. He will get paid but won’t play. Why suffer physically and tarnish your reputation by sucking. Plus now it’s clear we will not contend in 2023.1 point

We tailgated under an ez-up and dealt with the rain. The silver lining was the temperature dropped from 92 to 72 in about 20 minutes. No sweltering heat at the show which is a great thing when you are packed in the pit with a bunch of wooks. The only small negative was they didn’t have the new crazy lighting rig that moves and rotates. The light show last night was great but it’s gets way better when they have the full rig. Not sure if that was a Pine Knob stage issue or logistics from playing last night in Cleveland.1 point

Yeah for sure! I rode up with a friend and his brother and sister in law were already out there. They told us they weren't letting anybody in, this was around 5 so they went to the Union bar and were able to get a table. We finally got there and hung out and decided to go to Pine Knob and at least drink some beers if that's all it was going to be. We got in before the show started, there's a club entrance to the far left that had no line, thanks to the worker who pointed that out. In fact they never even scanned a ticket. We had lawn seats but instead of standing on a sloping wet hill in the rain we parked in front of the railings at the bottom of the hill. Couldn't really see much but we had video boards in front of us so it was cool. It was my first phish show and it exceeded my expectations. Didn't get home until 1:45.1 point

It was touch and go whether there was going to be a show at Pine Knob last night but it turned into one long insane set for 2 and a half hours. Absolutely Bubbleheaded!1 point

LOL - just when you start feeling bad for a Repub.... I can understand if he's pissed at the Dems because they 'helped' his opponent, but just in the end another example of a guy whose concern for himself trumps that for his country.1 point

I think the game has passed by Avila and he hasn't caught up and he needs to be fired. Even just the entire stated strategy of first getting the pitching right and devoting tons of resources the first few drafts of Avila's tenure to pitching and then adding position players later makes no sense. Pitchers break and are unreliable. I do think the current front office would probably not have drafted Mize or Manning or Faedo as they are going after pitchers now with better raw stuff to build off of. Seeing that the past two drafts has been a positive if nothing else. But it is too little too late now. I also think Illitch has been a really bad owner and the thing where the Tigers would add a few things to modernize the org each offseason (this year was new heads of player development, in 2021 they added new additional coaches to the minor leagues, in other years they added more technology, etc.) is probably more an Illitch thing rather than Avila. I'm guessing Avila or any baseball exec would have wanted a total overhaul 5 or 6 years ago as opposed to a little here and there since it still leaves you behind other organizations. In a recent podcast, Cody Stavenhagen from The Athletic mentioned that the Tigers have now realized that they are behind other orgs in injury prevention. So, they will probably add to their biomechanics department this coming off season now. But, it is just more of the same. They constantly play catch up. I think maybe every MLB org has their own facility in the Dominican Republic now, or at least are in the process of building their own. So, I'd guess the Tigers will eventually do that too and announce that one off season. Then, once they do that, they'll have to add actual resources there and try to catch up there. The Dodgers and other organizations have an entire research department in addition to an analytics department. So, the Tigers will probably add a small version of that a different offseason. But, I'd guess that is more of an Illitch thing than Avila. Either way, the Tigers are arguably the worst organization in MLB all things considered and requires a change in how ownership invests in the organization and in the way it is actually run from the GM and other baseball front office execs.1 point

I don't consider how much Dickerson talks as being a negative. I like hearing the insights he provides, and I like the volume he provides. He digs deep beneath the surface and I appreciate that. I also like when he goes into discussions about the intricacies of baseball, whatever the actual topic may be, with whomever his partner might be at the moment.1 point

If we are being really honest with ourselves, Al would have been raked over the coals if he did nothing as well. Especially given all the discussion about how active they were shopping their relievers. But I agree.... we all should be Sawyer Gipson-Long fans to the extent that he's in the org, but in terms of the "haul", it's not a lot lol1 point

just throw him a party, write him his check and release him. Nothing worse than when great players feel like they have to drag things out or their teams force them to.1 point

To that end, I don't know that the strikeouts are the issue so much as the one characteristic that I always associate with the Tigers: hardly ever getting on base via the BB. With this year's team in particular, they do not draw walks at near the clip that the rest of the league does (with exception of the White Sox)1 point
