  1. Now we have something to trade for Gleyber Torres.

Parker Meadows and hitting the fastball had been a question on the off season thread, Petzold has a report on Parker's efforts to fix that over the last year. https://www.freep.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2022/11/30/detroit-tigers-parker-meadows-put-myself-back-on-the-map/69682760007/ some highlights: .

  4. Maybe Candy wasn't the biggest overall problem, but he was a problem who had a decision to be made contractually during this offseason. And they acted on it. While I see the other side, I am fine with the decision they made. And as free agency proved, at the end of the day, the league didn't feel he was a $7 million dollar player so I cannot blame the Tigers for wanting to move on and see if they can find something different.

  5. Please keep sharing the ludicrous pronouncements from Carlson and Greene here. I've never bothered to establish a Twitter account, so I would miss out on that comedic value if people did not copy those tweets here. Copying a tweet to Motownforums.com does not "give it oxygen".

  6. I think Brieski was called up due to injury long before the normal, ideal development curve. That he didn’t crash and burn means something positive to me. Not that he’s a good pitcher, just one who exceeded my expectations under fire.

  12. Clean up his mechanics a bit..particularly when throwing on the run...and JJ McCarthy is going to be a top QB prospect. He has the arm, the feet and he doesn't rattle easily

  14. I sense a motownforums.com cover up for this story being posted in the NCAA and not in the Michigan football thread. Tremendously convenient to try and hide it here and away from all of the tunnel debate. A very Washtenaw County prosecutors office move. I see what’s going on here. 🤐😶😜

  15. forgetting for a minute that this is a football player and a high profile team, if this is a procedural carry or licensing violation you'd might be hard pressed to find a Michigan jury if you went to trial where some of the members hadn't done the same thing at least once..... The Academic community and the city of A^2 and probably the whole NCAA is mostly firmly planted in the anti-gun left, but out there in the rest of the world and even much of the wider Washtenaw county, the 2A rules. And of course we know Harbaugh's politics.

  17. With Rodgers looking broken and finally showing his age watch it be the Packers that get Williams so they can go from Favre, Rodgers and Caleb and basically have a franchise qb for almost half a century. God I just threw up in my mouth thinking of that.

  18. Get Fulmer in here and keep Norris... the Boyd/Norris/Fulmer trio always had a special place to me. It's like when we brought Omar back to Ramon and once again we had Intantiago. Went to the WS and should have won in the year after... coincidence? I think not.

  19. Yes, this - but also - sports in general are very volatile per say. You just cannot say, as I heard one Tigers commentator mention at the end of 2021 season - while assuming the other current player WARS remain the same; if we 'add' WAR here, there, etc. plus this past years WAR on a few players stay the same or go up then we contend... NOT that simple. The repeat WAR of several Tiger players did not happen from their 2021 seasons (Candy included, Grossman, Schoop, etc.) and several more got hurt. The Tigs can try to improve at several positions 'now'. Getting certain players added to the roster and hopefully most of them will perform adequate/well. Then add in some improvements by current players ex Baez, Baddoo, Meadows, Tork, Schoop, etc. Yet, there will no doubt be some regress also. We hope the progress outweighs here. This is how any management must think. Detroit just had an abundance of things 'not' go well in 2022. In the end, maybe all for the better, as changes have been/are being made all across the board. This along with hopefully better luck on the 'health side' (yet, there are always going to be some injuries) - may lead the team to be more (and perhaps much more) competitive. Maybe even contend for awhile at least with the increased post-season mix (perhaps wishful thinking 🙂 🙄).

  20. No doubt - a situation like tendering Candy (and, as we now know, giving him more than what the market believes he is worth) is absolutely what would have happened under the last guy. The new guy doesn't operate that way, which is good. It's one of those 'calculated risks' he talked about in his opening press conference. I don't know how he'll replace Candy, and there's a risk in that whatever replacement happens maybe doesn't perform as well.... but we all know what playing it safe gets. Sometimes you have to take risks to get better.

  25. And the joke I made on Twitter the other day... Cabrera's option vests with a Top 10 MVP finish this year. If the two Detroit chapter voters that voted for him for Tigers POY this year get MVP ballots next year, don't rule that out!

  27. The only problem with this metaphor is Russia burnt their home so Ukraine wouldn't have a home and so Russian soldiers could steal their washing machines and toilets because Ukrainians are not considered actual people.

  28. As a jock I used to hate political season and it's endless spots, especially the week before Election Day. Especially since the stations I worked had policies of no competitors in the same stop set. It was small market in the 70s and 80s, we tried to limit lengths of breaks more or less. 3 spots, weather report, more spots, live psa or promo, etc. You were lucky you could get 4 songs in a half hour...

  29. yeah - the situation has changed dramatically since Kaline and Mays' day. Guys were not on huge long term deals and teams were more than willing to cut bait with guys whose performance had dropped regardless of who they were. You got pretty much one year to prove you were done and you were out. I'm pretty certain that Miguel would not have have been playing in the majors for the last two years or so under the contract arrangements that existed years ago. When you think about it puts more luster on the records of the old timers who had to get to those counting statss without benefit of being able to hang on to roster spots because of their team's contract liability to them.

  37. Finally got me. Had a cough and runny nose, and started to feel achy last night. Took two positive rapid tests this morning. Nothing unbearable yet. The worst part is having zero energy.
