  2. you either trust brad holmes or you dont. if they think levis or stroud (i assume young goes to the texans at 1 but you never know) could develop into an nfl game changing qb then you draft him. if you dont, then you probably dont. at some point they probably need to take a qb. doesnt have to be this year, but i assumed that was their plan all along. but plans change, perhaps their plans have changed? we'll see.

  4. So...you're saying Chris Ilitch is installing the new lights to create epileptic seizures in downtown Detroit in order to kill enough people to shrink the market until he can be subsidized? #EvilGenius

  7. Exactly. Never give the refs a reason to make a bad call. They will. And anytime an arm gets swung, it's called more often than not. Sewell is a young kid and his emotions took over. If you give them any reason to call something, they just might.

  8. Imho he was trying to swat the defender away as the defender tried to knock the ball loose. I don't think he was trying to "punch" the defender. The open hand seem to me to confirm that. I think it's also telling that the ref is right there and didn't throw a flag. I think that's because he saw the defender grabbing at the ball and just figured Sewell was reacting to that. That said, this is just my opinion and I agree that it could have very easily been seen differently by an official and flagged. We've all seen it a million times where the first guy does something and the second guy reacts and the second guy gets the flag.

  9. TBH, I would rather we don't play a night game in Green Bay in January. 20⁰ below zero? No thanks.

  10. Yeah, and that'll be a bummer in my humble opinion. I like my 1:00 Sunday afternoon games. I'm okay with 4:30 games... just hate the night stuff cause then I gotta stay up late and if they lose I go to bed angry and frustrated. If they win I go to bed jacked up (I said up, not off!) and excited.

  11. As Rob had oft made pointed reference to, the Ilitch org had a lot of grand plans on the table when Little Caesar's went in and so far almost nothing has come to fruition. Apropos of your question though, there were announcements last week that some work in 'District Detroit' is now supposed to begin. Skepticism is warranted. OTOH, there has been a lot of residential development around the ball park going up John R, and to the east, they are going to fill in I-375, UM/Gilbert/Ilitch are going to develop one of the blocks on Cass, the city's first large new building in years is rising on the Hudson's site, and recently the Penobscot Bldg ownership finally changed hands. The point of mentioning this is that at its nadir, virtually every old Detroit landmark bldg was in disrepair and declining. But almost all have now been brough back, the last three big ones were Book Tower, which Gilbert has put a ton of $$ into and is close to reopening, Michigan Central, which of course was reduced to a hulk and that Ford is completely rennovating, and lastly the Penobscot, which never got to the point of closure but where the ownership disregard had left the building almost unrentable. Having these major buildings back in productive service is huge for the city, not only because they generate tax revenue, but because as each one is rehabbed it decreases the overhang of low quality/cost rental space and bids up the value of the whole business district. And of course no-one was going to build anything new downtown until the empty buildings were full again. Its the life of the buildings in the business district that is the ulitmate pull for downtown residential development. The latter can't continue without the former. Iif nothing bad happens (e.g. another pandemic) I would think the area around the ballpark could be peaking in another 10 yrs. We can fairly bag on Ilitch for the lack of development around Little Caesar's so far, but TBF, the old Man's (and Ford's) commitment to putting the sports venues back into mid town probably had a lot to do with giving other developers like Gilbert the confidence to take on the projects they have. It all goes together. My memories of downtown stretch back to the glory days of the Sheraton Cadillac hotel, the Christman Village on the 12th floor at Hudsons - right through to going to school downtown in the 70's after the riot burnouts and the following years of collapse. It hasn't recovered to where it was in the 50's/60's, because Detroit will never be the richest city in the country like it was then (pretty close anyway), but downtown has come back a looong way from where it was at bottom. Unfortunately, the recipe for downtown is actually simpler than for the thousands of residential blocks around the city with only one or two houses left on them.....

  12. I just don't see the value in the insults some seem to prefer to use to express their disagreement. I can only guess they envision the act as being some form of "sharktank" designed to intimidate me and bring me under control? (hence the metaphor about trying to put a ring in my nose) The fact that I was able to rechristen the sharktank, and re-brand it as the monkeycage, and elicit a response, did tickle me, I will admit that

  13. I don't think anyone is saying Holmes should reach for a QB. Only that if he believes in one who is available, now is the perfect time to take him with the extra high pick and the ability to have that player sit behind Goff for a year. If Holmes doesn't believe in anyone, then he definitely shouldn't reach for one. Either way, I firmly believe Goff will be the starter in 2023. The question for me is will his backup be his future cheaper successor, or will that person be picked up down the road longer.

  15. I'm here 100%. I trust Holmes to make the decision. If Stroud or Levis is the guy, they have the ability to sit for a year and step in in 2024 and free up a bunch of cap space. (It also would give us a higher upside backup in 2023 in case Goff went down.) If Holmes doesn't believe in them, then load up the defense. Either way, Holmes has earned my trust so far.

  17. i would be ok with them taking a qb in this draft, jared goff's current hot streak notwithstanding. you'll never have a better chance than this year. if they dont feel confident in levis or stroud, then pass. but if they think levis can become an allen type qb, you should take him with the rams pick. this is a big couple of weeks for goff. the jets game is against a really good defense, outdoors in the cold and wind in new jersey. let's see if he can get 300 passing yards against a solid secondary in the elements, or if we get the new england game 2.0. lets hope williams is out. then carolina with a good pass rush before a respite against the bears and the pack in the dead of winter. its going to be a test for jared and the lions. hopefully he'll pass.

  22. The Lions actually have deep threats now and Goff is hitting them. That's so weird. Why wasn't the deep pass working with KhaDarel Hodge? Goff is now 5th in TDs, 6th in QBR, 7th in QB rating, and 8th in yards. Top 10 QB.

  33. I've had 5 shots, had covid after the 4th one. It was pretty mild, despite a potentially devastating underlying condition. The vaccine played a role in that (It also, somewhat ironically played a role in me getting it. My brother's symptoms were so mild, likely due to the vaccine, that we had no clue he may be positive when I visted him.) The parenthetical paradox aside, the vaccine helped everybody get back to normalish, and for that it has been invaluable. Those of us with consciouses who stayed home as best as we could needed those shots for some degree of sanity. Yes, I would get the vaccine again, and hindsight only reinforces it. I'll get every booster I'm eligible for ASAP. My doctor agrees. My epidemiologist cousin agrees. If some right wing talking heads don't, well their word is meaningless in this debate.

  35. Hospital figures provide the answer as to whether people should have gotten the vaccine. Before they were widely distributed the ICU’s were full of covid patients. Now they are not. Barely a blip on the radar. The impact on our hospitals is the single data point you need. It answers the questions. It’s night and day better today than 2 years ago. By a mile. remember it wasn’t just COVID patients dying because of over crowding and it’s not just COVID deaths being prevented that matter. It was stroke and heart attack patients that couldn’t get the kind of care dying that made it worse. Today they get the treatment they need. it’s at the point now where it’s very rare my wife has a patient in the icu because of covid.
