  1. Once again the folks who screamed freedom at the top of their lungs over mask mandates now wanting to take away the freedom to vaccinate. Showing their true colors, it's not about freedom but control.

  2. This is fair. Personally, I think lists have a place if done properly. It really boils down to the construction of the list and what the author actually tries to accomplish. If the goal of the list is to educate, give an honest assessment of strengths, weaknesses, potential, etc., then that can have value and the list is really just the convenient vehicle for communicating the information about the players. If the goal of the list is to garner clicks, garner favor with people by saying nice things about players, and gain access by furthering org information, then the list has absolutely zero value. In this regard, I think the current state of Tigers prospect analysis/writing has regressed substantially the last 3-4 years. There's no education or honesty in the analysis and writing, it's just click bait, puff pieces, and overly positive evaluations because people aren't willing to be honest because they are afraid someone will get mad at them.

  4. The Saints went from 1967 to 1987 without a winning season, and it took until 2000 until they had a division championship and a playoff win. Since 2009 though, they've made the playoffs 8 times, won their division 6 times, and won the Super Bowl once. People in their 20s and younger don't even remember how awful they used to be and think of them as a successful franchise. The historical ineptitude for their older fans has turned into "I was a fan all the way back when..." reminiscing more than depression inducing drinking stories. Though I'm sure they'd appreciate another Super Bowl in their lifetimes. Would be nice to go in that direction.

  5. I hope this team gets really good soon so we can stop constantly talking about the past. It’s such a shitty history and I can’t wait to move beyond it all.

  6. I guess I feel in general that defensive coordinators are less important than offensive coordinators. I also feel Dan Campbell is a good recruiter and can recruit a good defensive coordinator. Even if Campbell was more involved in the offense, there is something good going on between Campbell, Johnson and Goff. I also think it's not going to be long before teams come for their position coaches to elevate as coordinators.

  8. Sheila doesn't get enough credit. I was thinking about the hiring of Spielman. He was an announcer. He wasn't their A team but I imagine his salary was 7 figures. She was able to lure him away from a high paying job to work in the front office. The GM search was done right. Interviewed 15-20 candidates including former GMs and up and comers. No one even knew who Brad Holmes was and the marriage between Holmes and Campbell has been perfect. She also gave them a 6 year contract. She gave them time to do it right instead of a quick fix. The most underrated move is hiring John Dorsey. This is the guy who was the architect of the Chiefs who drafted Mahomes, Kelce and Hill. He goes to Cleveland and takes an 1-31 team to 11 wins and playoff win. His issue was the relationship between coaches and salary cap. Two things he doesn't have to deal with with the Lions. He's one of the best talent evaluators in the league and has to be making GM level money. Finally paying up for Ben Johnson who is one of the up and coming offensive coaches in the league. She's supporting the team without being meddling and completely changed the culture to where players and coaches want to be a part of this team. Dare I say she's moved ahead of Illitch and Gores as the best owner in Detroit?

  9. I hope Meadows can perform well in 2023 because this trade is grand larceny year to date. And I wager Parades will do well. He is exactly the type of player Harris is targeting and Al traded him with a High Draft Pick for a player in decline at escalating cost.

  10. on the possibility of the lions drafting richardson: Diante Lee: The Detroit deal comes with the highest upside, and I feel drawn in that direction. First-round quarterbacks are lottery tickets, and for all my appreciation of Stroud’s and Young’s consistency, poise and playmaking in high-leverage situations, there’s something to Richardson that I just can’t quit. His delivery and timing need work (who better to learn from than Jared Goff on that front?), but his pocket navigation and feel for the game are much further ahead than I remembered in my cursory watches of his 2022 film. There won’t be an NFL throw that he can’t make, and the issues he can create with his legs as a fast and physical runner would fit perfectly into Detroit’s smash-mouth offensive philosophy. Nick Baumgardner I was a bit surprised to see so many Lions fans throw heat at Dane for linking their team to Richardson. Most of those complaints seemed centered on Detroit trading up a few spots to make that pick and the price paid (a first-rounder and second-rounder). We’ll have to see what the board says about Richardson’s value, but I understand why Dane made the move. As Nate mentioned, Detroit’s situation — a stable veteran starter in Goff and a confident head coach who loves to run the ball in Dan Campbell — would be perfect for Richardson. And his skill set would be perfect for Detroit’s offense if the development happens.

  11. pronman - after listing wallinder in the 100s of top prospects - lists him and mazur in his column today on fast rising prospects. William Wallinder, LHD, Detroit Wallinder has been excellent in the SHL this season, as the 20-year-old has been one of the top players for Rogle. As a 6-foot-4 defenseman who can skate quite well for his size and is showing a lot of offense this season, you can one day envision Wallinder in an NHL top four. His defending and physicality could use some improvement, but he’s not deficient as a defender. The tools he has distinguish him as a pro prospect, especially with the level of skill and playmaking he’s showing right now. Carter Mazur, RW, Detroit Mazur’s significant upward trend of development over the last few years has carried into this season, where he’s been one of the very best players in college hockey. His skating and compete level have always been positives in his game, but the level of offense he’s showing right now is quite significant compared to a few seasons ago. Mazur can shoot the puck, has good hands and offensive sense to go with his speed and direct style of play. He’s looking like someone who could be a top six winger in the NHL one day.

  15. I mean, it's kinda just history repeating itself... as much as the Ol' Man gets lionized around here, the dark days of 2002-2003 happened on his watch... like with Al, he hung onto Randy Smith for far too long, and it took DD four years to fix the ditch that Randy Smith left the franchise in

  16. There's no point in relitigating it for the 80th time, but part of Scott Harris' job is making calculated risks and apparently he felt this one was worth making. We kinda just have to see how it all plays out, but seeing how obsessing over "old friends" is a pasttime for our fanbase, we will likely be getting regular updates about Jeimer every time he has a good game in 2023, no question

  17. Somewhere recently (maybe here) I read a reminder that Erdogan is a Turk and so you don't get anything (like Sweden's admission to NATO) without a good haggle - it's cooked into the culture. Various reports in the twitterverse indicating that apparently the US has figured out that F-16s are the thing to tease to Erdogan with at the bazaar.

  20. they didnt have a winning season for five years because they fired jim harbaugh, not because they traded alex smith. and i'll take five losing seasons if i get a super bowl out of it. again, im not even advocating they take richardson or any qb. i trust holmes' decision making. but if they did, i imagine it would be because they thought he had the chance to be a great qb. and im ok with them using #18 or a second rounder on a chance like that at qb.

  23. Just one brave soul needs to bring them to court. How could a law like this stand? I don’t believe it could. Could a town ban mammograms? Could they ban X-rays? Cancer treatments? Dental surgery? Eye exams? Childhood immunizations? Pap smears? Prostate exams? Epidurals? Frivolous. Nah, let’s call it what it is. Fucking evil bullying bullshit.
