  1. Cossa with a big weekend in Toledo. Got a rare back to back start as Lethemon was up in GR. Won both stopping 55 of 56 shots. On the year...Cossa has a 2.50 GAA and a .911 SV %. The team is red hot...currently on a 13 game winning streak

  2. ortiz has always been a fat pos. the difference with him is he went hard on peds, got caught, and then lied about it. and because he's "big papi" and plays for the red sox, mlb let him get away with it. sorry for the rant, but ortiz in the hall of fame and arod not is a miscarriage of justice. ortiz is a cheater and a liar.

  3. Hey all, long time reader, used to post on the old board a bit. Nice to jump in. I would be a hard pass on Henry as a replacement for Williams. Williams locker room presence and personality brings alot to the equation/culture. I 'kind of' think of him similarly to Ivan Rodriguez signing with the Tigers. THey sucked before he joined but he was the first and maintained production, eventually making Detroit a good place to be, bringing others along. All in all my comparison maybe a bit of a stretch, but not knowing much about Henry other than his stats, I'm not doing that. Thanks, I'll try to jump in more over time!

  7. There is no problem with kids working if someone is looking out for them. The problem is that you just know there are companies, especially the bigger ones, who will just jump at the opportunity to abuse and underpay kids from poor families needing money.

  9. My son is 14 and bales hay and detassles corn. He has done it for the last 2 summers I would consider that hazerdous but the farmer he works for takes good care of all the kids that work for him. It's all paid under the table of course. This might be a way to protect kids like this or just collect taxes.

  15. I don't know if 'gut' has that much to do with it - it's how he senses a particular pitch is working for him that I would be concerned with. There are all kinds of things a pitcher has always been able to communicate to his catcher about his physical condition wrt throwing a given pitch etc., that always had all time the time needed to get communicated to his catcher, either in mound visits or just by shaking him off to get the where he (the pitcher) wanted to be. As much as I love the pitch clock, combined with visit restrictions, it does very arbtrarily cut off the abilty of that return communication from the pitcher to the catcher. That's not a matter of romance but of practical teamwork.

  16. Only 3 players in MLB were above .533 SLG last year but if you're going to dream, dream big.

  17. barkley played every game last year but one. additionally, when barkley plays, he plays 80-90% of the offensive snaps. swift rarely plays more than 40% of the lions snaps. in fact, in many of the games where he "played", he was 1) unproductive; and 2) played about 1/3 of the offensive plays. your insistence that because swift "played" in games means he's not unreliable because of injury is puzzling. swift played well in a handful of games last year. other than that, he was not used much. he is a glorified third down back and not a back like barkley or potentially robinson. swift is in a contract year, so we'll see if he can play through enough pain to get paid after this year.

  23. Parker is 23 1/2 yrs old. If he hits he should be on the Tigers NOW. Period. You are either hitting MLB pitching or you aren't. If you are, another 10 minutes in the minors is just 10 min wasted. No such thing as a guy who is hitting that needs more seasoning time in the minors. Now once the pitchers get into better form Parker's bat may well disappear, and that's fine. Then you have a different conclusion, because he is NOT hitting MLB pitching. But the seeming presumption that a guy always needs time in the minors until he has spent multiple seasons at every level just to do the time, seems to have been overdone in this org in the past. And I think it was in part because they had sooooo many guys who just never progressed. They got to AA or AAA and hit a wall so it was easier to believe guys just 'need more time' instead of admitting they were busts and it was like the prevailing mindset or something. You hit your way onto a roster and then of course you may well hit your way back off!

  25. Reminds me of this scene from Major League: Charlie Donovan : [Taylor arrives to spring training] There's Jake Taylor. Lou Brown : He was an all-star in Boston, wasn't he? Charlie Donovan : Yeah, wound up in the Mexican League. Had problems with his knees. Pepper Leach : Wish we had him two years ago. Charlie Donovan : We did.

  26. They have more to say. They've been silenced for years and forced to be what some record company asshole thought was sexy. It's all pouring out now and it's interesting. Women were treated horribly (and to a degree many still are) in the business for years, really talented women who didn't need that sexism. Smart is sexy. There's a million Barbie doll singers out there and none of them have anything interesting to say. Guy rock? Yeah, out of ideas. I don't even know what rock music is anymore.........it's so hyper aggressive and there's no melody anymore. How many straight-forward rock bands are there. I'll count the Foo Fighters, but how many others? And pop music. Songs that have about 3 notes rule the Top 40 airwaves, it's hour after hour of the same freaking song, like an audio migraine. There is no music theory at play anymore. Go watch videos about how songs used to be made and all the oddities in the great songs we knew, there is really no innovation anymore, digital has killed creativity Everything is too easy now and few try anything new. Watch this video of how they made "I'm Not In Love" by 10cc.........even if you hate the song. The process was insane and you'll never hear the song the same way again. Nobody does this creative stuff now because digital does it for them so they are not challenging. It's like if you don't challenge your brain enough, you get stupid and then you can't anymore.

  29. I’m not sure any of the combine numbers will make a real difference for who the Lions select. They have proven to be more about the tape and on field performance than the workout numbers. What it does do for them is set a market value and where they can expect to pick some of the guys they really like. A average combine for a player they like probably helps them a ton. I bet Brad and Co. high five each other when a guy they like on tape turns in a slow time.
