the accomplishment is pretty hollow if the other side isn't trying.3 points

These are terrible posts. McKenna is trying to win a game, a 0-0 game at that point. The guy saw an opportunity to try to get on base to set up his team to win the game. How can he be faulted for that? Would you also blame a hitter for taking a borderline 3-2 pitch with a perfect game on the line?3 points

I just figured out the other day that Mckinstry went to the same high school I did. We even had the same baseball coach. However, he was born the year graduated lol.2 points

I was a lifelong Democrat until the woke mob came for Tucker Carlson. Now I have no choice but to vote for Donald Trump.2 points

yeah. Hitters don't owe the opposing P anything. I hate that kind of thinking. It's not a 8-0 game... even if it were, doesn't matter. There's no running out the clock in baseball. Their job is to win games not tip their cap and step aside.2 points

I binged the final season of Better Call Saul. Man, what a great show. What a great, great show. I'll have to look to see if that final season thread is here or lost to space on the old site. It should be a great read and provide insight to things I may have missed. Poor Howard. That really bothered me.2 points

Let's not forget about Wenceel Perez...He's only 23 and can play a variety of I field spots1 point

His ties to the general area, being from FW, playing at CMU, etc. all make it crazier that the trade was trashed as much as it was. Should be a natural to root for for Tiger fans1 point

There is zero doubt he opts out., unless he gets hurt or implodes. That was a team friendly contract when he signed and even more so given the free agent nuttiness this past winter. I think he’d be attractive to any playoff contender and has proven he can pitch in a pressure cooker like Boston. I’d like two more Malloy’s, please.1 point

They went all in in 2004 and made it to the WCF. It was all for not as they would have faced the juggernaut in the East that year.1 point

the galling thing about golden state crying that he got suspended is that he gets away with murder on the floor and should have more techs than he actually receives.1 point

Good riddance to both. Don't compare them though. DL was a tad bit obnoxious. Tucker was openly siding with Putin.1 point

I think you're missing what most of us are saying about this. First, I at least (and I suspect others) fully understand that gambling on games in the league in which play is a very, very bad look and very much damages the integrity of the game. Super bad. In my humble opinion gambling on any sporting event for a player should be banned because it skates so close to gambling on your sport. It's not a question of not understanding the dangers that gamble presents from an image stand point. Second, I fully understand (as do others) that these are the rules and JaMo broke 'em and he has to pay the price. We're not questioning if he's guilty or if he should be punished. So what am I questioning? This: Why is something that a player is allowed to do when "off campus" punished so severely when he is "on campus" but not engaged in active work*? What liability does betting on games AT work create that betting on games when NOT AT work NOT create? That is the ultimate question. According to the NFL one is fine, the other is a 1/3 season suspension. The best answer I've seen is: A headline saying: "players are routinely betting at practice" sounds bad. And I agree, but a headline saying: "players are routinely betting on games, just not at work" doesn't really sound better. *I'm assuming that he wasn't actively engage in a team meeting or working out or practicing. I'm assuming he was on a lunch break or whatever. If he did do this while in a meeting or when he was supposed to be doing something else, that's another situation entirely and then it's a case where the Lions should be punishing him for not doing his job.1 point

So Minnesota is going to end up with a really good player in Edwards and have no picks to get him help. They should keep him and McDaniels and sell everyone else.1 point

David Frum suggested that as well. People love poring over the ratings numbers, but ratings are pretty hollow when the guy with the highest ratings isn't bringing in revenue and starts actually costing the network money.1 point

Too bad he shouldn't have even been in the game after getting an early Technical and then screaming in opposing player's faces twice to taunt them after making a play. Of course, the refs didn't want to give him another tech, so he got away with it as usual.1 point

those other networks won't be able to absorb the financial ramifications like Fox. I made a joke about about The Hulk Hogan lawsuit ending Gawker as we know it, I can definitely see places like OAN and Newsmax suffering a similar fate. The Fox settlement does nothing to help their competitors and just provides a baseline for a settlement that they cannot afford. Tucker will just do his own thing online. I believe he broadcast his show from his bunker at his home anyway. If morons like Shapiro and Kirk can do it then he will. The guy's filthy rich anyway.1 point

MTU, you have to understand none of that matters anyway. For most of America, but esp the GOP, politics, which was only ever loosely tied to policy in the US anyway is now completely umooored from it. And TBH, we pretty much have a policy ignorant population anyway. So it's all about the snake oil. It's all personality, entertainment and tribal identity now. The only role of policy is as subject matter to hang rhetoric on in order to create the public persona. Trump could take any position on any policy but as long as he talks about it in terms of white greivance and owning the libs and makes it all about him, it would still sell to his supporters equally well. You have a whole generation of GOP Congressional leadership who have built their popularity without having accomplishing anything at all policy wise or legislatively (MTG/Bobert/Jordan McCarthy etc). US politics, esp on the right, has to be observed through the lens of the WWE. That's the model.1 point

So Matt Patricia somehow keeps getting jobs. The single worst coach in my lifetime (Lions or otherwise). Now he's a Defensive Assistant with the Eagles. That's right, Matt Patricia will be coaching Darius Slay. Oh, this'll work well.1 point

Any moron knows why certain things that are legal are not allowed in a work environment. Obviously, drugs and alcohol are impairments. They can cause a dangerous work environment and create tremendous liability for a company. The same is true for porn, which is an easy sexual harassment liability for any organization. That’s why these things are not allowed in the office. What is the reason that online gambling on non-NFL games through a legal business entity is not allowed in the facility? There is absolutely no correlation between this activity and anything around competitiveness or the trust of the game. They aren’t betting on NFL. There aren’t bookies or other shady types that may try to compromise a player. There is no impact or perceived impact on the outcome or result of any NFL game. Honestly, these suspensions will have a bigger impact on the outcome of NFL games than anything these players bet on their apps. I’m honestly confused why this crime has such a heavy penalty for doing this at a facility, on a team plane, in the locker room hours before a game. This is 3 times the length of suspension given to guys that beat their wives. Watson got the same for 20+ sexual assault cases. Makes no sense to me why 6 games for a first offense.1 point

Here’s today’s peeve. I did my grocery shopping, got all the fine fruits & vegetables I needed… then at the register, gave into temptation and bought a chocolate bar w/hazelnuts & raisins. *sigh* Now I’ve unpacked and put away my groceries…. And I can’t locate the freaking candy bar. This is upsetting me more than is reasonable. I don’t know if that’s a peeve, but I’m pissed, and I wanted to SHARE. 😂1 point

I don’t know how everyone feels about network sitcoms, but Ghosts on CBS Thursday nights is one of the best in a long time. I knew that it was based on the UK series, but I just learned that HBO MAX has the UK Ghosts available, so that gives my wife and me another series in the queue to tackle.1 point
