  1. The only one I ever remember is Cesar Gutierrez had a 7 for 7 in 12 innings in 1970, which was just about a whole season's offense for him!

  3. We're not waiting for power from Tork, just a little adjustment in elevation - he already hits the ball plenty hard enough to put in the seats. But I don't want to be too impatient. Hitters develop. He's just come off a pretty disappointing season. Let him get his on-base tools working consistently. Once he's a more comfortable and experienced hitter that little additional lift will probably come naturally as his timing gets better. The one thing I don't want anyone to do is mess with his swing - it's a thing of beauty as it is.

  4. It may have been a misreading of Paredes' talent, but I don't think it was a panic move I get the feeling the Tigers didn't regard Paredes highly for whatever reason. He seemed ready to be given a major league opportunity and they seemed reluctant to give it to him. I don't think Meadows power was clearly on the decline since he hit for pretty good power in 2021. I would have been very happy with 27 home runs from him again in 2022

  5. I used to love getting home from school and watching the Cubs on WGN or the Braves on TBS. There was a time where they were on virtually every day and I got to watch them more than the Tigers. Kinda surprised I never took to either team considering the exposure to them.

  6. I'm confused. Does the father live on the "southside" ? What is he doing in Naperville? Why are they interviewing people in Naperville about Chicago politics? What's with the Tigers' cap on a guy from Chicago's southside who happened to wander into Naperville. Is it actually in Naperville or are they in the part of Aurora that pretends to be Napervilly. So many questions.

  8. I'm still not sure Parades wouldve ended up the same way here as he did with TB, after all he's not the first and certainly won't be the last player to play way better for them than they ever did or do elsewhere but assuming that's not the case then yeah his bat sure would look nice on this team right now.

  9. Yes, it’s time to get out of the lottery. They have Cunningham and Ivey in the back court, and Duren in the front court. They have the 5th, they have cap space, they have other movable pieces. It’s time to put a competitive team on the court.

  13. I mean, there's four guys on this roster aside from Schoop who can play a competent second base at the moment, so whoever theoretically gets called up or selected doesn't have to be a second baseman

  15. Lots of Monday morning QBing here I don't recall many posts of that. Most were OK trading for an all-star and didn't think it was just a panic move cause Riley got hurt. He had under a .600 OPS for us and most believed the trade was OK because we had Tork and Candy set to play the corners.

  16. Then you'll be happy to hear that the Hurricanes now have one of the best fanbases in the league. I was even in the area in the offseason and Hurricanes love was everywhere. Just because they don't play in Toronto doesn't mean they don't have a good fanbase.

  22. We are currently getting an education in this given that we will soon be moving up to the Chicago suburbs (it was time to come back up north for a variety of reasons).... and really it's not just Aurora, it seems like every surrounding suburb (ie. Bolingbrook, Lisle, Warrenville) wants a piece of Naperville. School District Boundaries have a lot to do with this.... decent sized chunks of Aurora and Bolingbrook, for whatever reason, filter into District 204, which also serve decent chunks of Naperville as well.

  23. The Jets are in a very tough spot, but I think there is (nearly) a 0.0% chance that Quinnen Williams is traded before the 2023 season. Their first priority has to be restructuring the Rodgers deal. His cap hit is $1.2MM this year, but is scheduled to be an outrageous $107.55MM next year. That's not feasible, even in a New Orleans world where the cap is made up and the points don't matter. Both sides probably know that's not feasible, but Rodgers holds all of the leverage there. He's a total douche, and will want to keep the option of retirement open at all times. If something goes wrong for the Jets this year and they go up like the Hindenburg, Rodgers could totally hold the entire franchise over a barrel for the near future. They have to know what their 2024 (and beyond) cap looks like before they can ink Williams to a nine-figure deal. Which Williams obviously, and understandably, doesn't like. He wants his deal and he wants it now. The thing that is known right now though is that they are in a win-now mode. The Jets are entering a period where they are looking to win a Super Bowl. It may only last one year, it may be a couple, but either way, you don't trade your defensive anchor when you are entering this window. You just don't, under any circumstance. If Quinnen Williams threatens to hold out, you call his bluff. He is under contract for another year, and there are franchise tags after that that would allow you to extend him for a single year at a time, at or below what he's asking for in a long-term deal. There is just no reason to panic and trade him. Of course, if the Jets are absolutely moronic (they are the Jets after all) and he is available, you need to be on the phone. I would do a 2024 1st and 3rd and a 2025 2nd with no hesitation. I think he is one of the best defensive players in the NFL, and I would have zero issue signing him to a 4 year / $120MM deal. That 1st should be in the late 20s at the earliest, and I think he could catapult you from being just the NFC North favorite to being a serious Super Bowl threat.

  25. Certainly the surprise it not what Paredes' value is - I don't think too many people doubted there was a decent hit tool there, the questions for Paredes had been whether he was going to outgrow the quickness he needed as an IF and whether his power would develop but there was always a decent probability for him. The crazy thing that has come out of the blue is Meadows. Unless Tampa was hiding something how could anybody have predicted what has happened to him when deciding to trade for him? It's just one of those weird outliers - basically our guy got run over by the beer truck. Where we are now doesn't really have much to do with the trade.

  27. I can see that. The hardcore protestants think dancing is a sin (Footloose is real, people) so I also wondered if it was meant to convey a "safe" style of dancing, that wasn't devilish. The old joke, why don't baptists have sex standing up? Could lead to dancing

  28. Paredes is still only 24 years old, too. I still think the trade made sense at the time. It just isn't working out well for the Tigers.

  29. I like Hendricks a lot as well, and pairing him with Duren would be fun defensively. Still, I have Cam one slot higher just like Vecenie due to what I believe is a higher ceiling. Hendricks is rising up draft boards but I’m not seeing too many that have him over Whitmore. And speaking of combine measurements, Whitmore is a 94th percentile athlete based upon draft measurements since 2000. He’ll also be just 18 on draft night.

  36. the prize is for the big ten is notre dame. miami and fsu gets you into florida, one of the biggest markets in the country. i'm really not sure that miami brings you anything other than one of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the country. they dont care about college football and dont really have fans. it would rutgers...only decent at football every five years or so. fsu would immediately make nebraska feel better academically, but is a complete mismatch for the big ten. miami too. but that doesnt matter. what matters is getting into florida's market.

  42. This is 100% accurate. Fans will read whatever they want onto it, but the Occam's Razor explanation is that Eduardo had to deal with something absolutely hellish in nature family wise last year and, whatever that issue is, it has been dealt with and he's back performing and contibuting. And it's not just DD or Petry either, his actual teammates are currently heaping praise onto him (such as Riley Greene yesterday)... I'm pretty sure I have seen quotes from the other starters (Wentz for sure) about how they are learning from him as well. Scott Harris had an appearance on MLB Network yesterday where he was praising him. It's not like this is "fans seeing what they want to see", he legitimately looks like he's in a better place and contributing this year. That doesn't mean that he's gonna stick around or that Harris won't use him as a trade chip, but just as Eduardo appears to have moved on from whatever happened last year, maybe the fanbase should as well.
