  1. The Tigers, for the most part, have actually been finding ways to win close games this year. The problem is lack of talent.

  2. Torkelson has made strides since last season but he's over doing the team mantra. He's not just waiting for pitches to hit, he's waiting for perfect pitches. It's going to get him a lot of walks but he's not going to be much help against good pitching until he's willing to be a *little* less picky early in the count.

  3. Time for my humble brag, in High School I got to face Drew Henson, at the time he was like the most heavily scouted kid in the area and would always draw big crowds. Anyway after embarrassing me and my entire team(I think we had 1 hit at this point) I came up for the 3rd time. I cheated so much cause that was the only way I could catch up to his 90 some mph fastball(I don't think I seen anything more than 80 before him) and I got lucky and even though I was still late the ball found my bat and probably due to his velo I laced one just inside the 1st base foul line and I guess I flipped the bat even though I didn't realize it. I got to 2nd base and their SS was like "Dude I can't believe you just flipped the bat on Drew Henson, you better hope you don't get another at bat" and lucky for me I didn't. K that's my "Al Bundy" High School sports story for the day. lol

  4. For all of the dumpster diving that was referred to as depth building, there really ain’t any depth at Toledo. And before anyone suggests promoting Malloy, he’s slowed down after a torrid start. Low .700 OPS after April. Probably still some lessons to be learned.

  5. The umpire didn’t even flinch. He was probably frozen because he couldn’t believe where the pitch was going. Was the call a header off of the ump’s nugget and tag out the runner trying to advance home? The ricochet was slightly miscalculated.

  6. Cant manage timeouts or rotations. Not a good X's and O's coach. Completely and totally outclassed by Kidd in last years playoffs. The Suns had the winning formula in the first two games. When on offense isolate Luka. In game 2 they scored something like 84 points when isolating Luka. CP3 and Booker almost fell over laughing at the post game presser when someone asked about Luka's defense. Kidd made defensive adjustments in game 3 and for the rest of the series Phoenix couldn't find a way to isolate Luka. Game 6 they lose by 30+ game 7 they lose by 30+ at home, the game was over by the middle of the second quarter. That is when he should have been fired. His player development is also overrated. He took over when Booker was in his 5th season. His numbers were the same before and after Williams. The Suns really made the jump after CP3 arrived. Sort of like the Nick Nurse situation with Kawhi. People giving the coach too much credit without providing enough context. He also totally failed with Ayton. At the end of the day it is on Ayton to improve. But if you praise Williams for player development you have to ding him for his misses as well, and Ayton is one. 5 years in the league and he doesn't have a defined role. Of course in a Williams offense bigs are mostly there to set screens for the high PnR, so get ready for that. But the most egregious thing with Ayton is that Williams seems to openly dislike him. Last summer Phoenix matched the Pacers max offer sheet and what happened? Ayton didn't hear from Williams all summer. The guy just signed a $130M contract and you don't blow a call into him for 4 months? I think the religious stuff will also end up bothering me. But that is a personal thing and really has nothing to do with his coaching. There is more but whatever.

  7. What the hell just happened. Someone has to help Cisnero steal Haase’s signs.

  8. And that was definitely a wild pitch because Haase did not call for a pitch at umpire-face level.

  9. Cisnero should just throw a wild pitch. All 3 runs in the game would score on wild pitches.

  11. This goes back to my ongoing criticisms of Craig Monroe: he talks like he’s still in the clubhouse, using clubhouse nicknames for the players, which makes me roll my eyes; he’s a “let’s go, boys!” rooter behind the mic, which makes me roll my eyes; and he’s basically a PR manager for the players, spinning anything that’s suboptimal into bland positives because hey, he’s gotta be around those guys the next day, so he's gotta watch what he says. Actually, "'he's gotta watch what he says" may not be even exactly true. Maybe he doesn't have to watch what he says at all because he's been steeped in elite jockocracy since probably at least high school, with all the language and thought processes attendant to it, so he's probably hard-wired to say the thing that most supports the guys. Either way, it's pretty amateurish.

  12. Bàez swings and misses with man at 3rd and nobody out. C-Mo says "good swing, that's what you want to do". Yeah, Craig. That's just about the most stupid thing you could say.

  13. Well, if the hitters can't hit you in, I guess you have to pray for the pitchers to wild-pitch you in.

  14. Still glad it wasn't Ollie even though I don't like the Monty Williams hiring.

  15. No pun intended, but Brant Hurter seems to make sense on Tuesday. We will see though. Toledo's rotation is a wreck.

  16. yeah it's a pain to reset the stuff you do want, but I clear out *everything* periodically, just out of principle. 😡

  17. I understand. I’m assuming he could be ready in a week or two. And I concede that Harris has his work cut out for himself. But he also put himself in this position to some degree with his offseason moves. There really haven’t been any real surprises, save for the ERod and Greene injuries, which I don’t want to trivialize. I think he was hoping on bounceback seasons or improved development from younger players. Baez and Schoop have been consistently bad year over year. Could not have expected much from Miggy. Had to expect some injuries along the way. It will be hard to improve externally at this point. He’d have to be willing to move Colt Keith, likely, which would be a mistake. When healthy, I’d bring up Carpenter, Lipcius and Kreidler in place of Ibanez, Nevin and Maton. I still like Maton, but think he would benefit from some time at Toledo. It’s just unfortunate that we don’t have better organizational depth to plug holes—the division is very winnable this year. Unfortunately, we’re not in much of a position to capitalize.

  18. I deleted the post and edited the other. My apologies that it sounded too much like a person attack which was not my intention.

  19. which of Biden's advisors is plotting a coup? which one is planning to end NATO? which one is actively seeking a race war?

  20. I thought the other interesting thing I didn't see any trace of in Alberta's reporting was any talk about *news gathering*. If he wants to be the trusted source, at least some of the effort has to be redirected into simply being a better news source. Licht may not believe it but despite that it may be true they spend too much time at 'level 11', I think MSNBC has done a better job as a news source than CNN. In recent years MSNBC has had people in the field like Richard Engel that are head and shoulders above CNN's staff.

  21. I got through about half of this before the site threw me out for some reason, but the conclusion from what I did read is that Licht is mostly an incompetent programmer - he may have an idea of where he wants to get but functionally he has no clue what a news organization needs, either leadership nor programming wise, to get there. On the negative side he knows what he doesn't want but on the positve side his ideas for what to do have been failures.

  23. I'm sure you gave him a tougher AB than that bum Mantle though! The only Major Leaguer that I know of that I ever played with was Chris Getz, played with one summer on a travel league I was on and against him in High School. He was a couple years younger than me and most of the guys on our team yet he was head and shoulders above everybody else. He was like Mike Trout and the rest of us were current Miggy. I always think of him to appreciate just how good these MLBers are. He was only a utility player for a few years yet he was just so much better than everybody that I played with growing up.

  25. So the one thing we thought TORK! could actually do, pick it with his glove, I guess we can’t even rely on that anymore. He doesn’t do that, he’s a dead loss at first.

  26. Greetings everyone. I've been a big fan of the Tigers ever since the Sparky Anderson days. I have lots of relatives that live in Chicago (Cub fans) that like to tease me. Nice to see our record better than the White Sox and Flubs.

  27. I was a little worried about Aruba that it would be... too nice, if that makes sense. I wanted to feel "Somewhere else". We looked at other locations but places like the Bahamas didn't appeal to me, it's basically Florida and I expected it to be overrun with families and that's not what we wanted. I also didn't want to go to a place like the Dominican where I'd be afraid to go anywhere off the resort. Already went to Jamaica. Mexico is not interesting to me. But Aruba was perfect. It didn't feel like it was a dirt poor place but also didn't feel like I was in Beverly Hills or even Clearwater or Orange Beach. It does have it's million dollar homes on the north end, which we drove through, but overall in our travels it looked like just normal people in small houses taking care of their property. You definitely felt like you were in a foreign country. We picked an adults only resort. The only negative thing we encountered was they let some people smoke cigars in the pool area and that bothered my wife. Didn't bother me. Everyone was very nice. The restaurants at the resort service just enough food that filled you up but didn't make you full to your stomach. We eat too much in the US. The portions were perfect. We made up for at the buffets though.
