  1. Looks like he has maintained his playing days weight.

  2. True. But it's really hard to give up on a 23 year old. Patience....it's not like he's blocking anyone. Unless they give Maton a 1st baseman glove....lol

  3. A cardboart cutout of Aurelio Rodriguez would give you as much as Maton has.

  4. Okay...........that's enough. What the hell are you trying to prove with Maton? He needs to be in Toledo. Is Nevin great? No. Is Lipcius great? No...........but I'd be willing to take my chances. I've seen enough.

  5. This pick is as easy as the Torkelson and Mize picks (even those have not exactly worked out in our favor). You take whoever falls to us between Crews, Langford, and Skenes. We are very fortunate to be in the top three. The only way the pick becomes difficult is if two of those three to fall to us.

  6. PLEASE: Call up Keith, Bigbie and Meyers to Toledo. Stick Malloy in LF/DH and leave him there, Keith at 3rd, Meyers at 1B, and Bigbie wherever he fits (LF/ RF/ DH?... Parker in CF...). And if Tork!!! can't figure out how to hit MLB pitching then send him freaking down to AAA and there are 4 different options to call someone up. Who with the Tigers can also play 1B? (Don't want to be locked into a Meyers-only option...). I'm getting fed up with his non-performance at the plate. I think I've had enough. Send him to AAA, as soon as possible... if he can't figure this out. IMO.

  7. I don't agree. Tork has saved several errors with his excellent scoops of bad throws.

  8. A.J. just announced that Maton has been optioned, so, there we go.

  9. LSU (Crews) vs Florida (Langford) on ESPN right now. If LSU wins, they win the CWS. If Florida wins, it goes to a deciding game, where I think Skenes would pitch.

  10. If Nevin hit .200 he'd be leaps and bounds better than Maton.

  12. I know the org isn’t trying to tank, but their stubbornness or indifference to winning is demoralizing. I’m sure the players aren’t happy, either—they are wired to want to win. Cause, winning is better.

  13. This is the most pissed off I have been this season at the Tigers. I don't know. Half a season and he's barely cracking .160 as an everyday player. I think that's an adequate sample size. Nickname for Nick The Human Windmill (at the plate and in the field. Again, would Nevin do better? I don't know, I just don't think, given a spot every other day, that he could be worse.

  14. Guys, guys, guys...we dont see what the AJ, Harris, and the everybody within the org see's with Maton everyday. His progress between games (when we dont see him), is really impressive. See guys, none of you get paid the big bucks, and just see the bad part of Maton's game, live during games...if you guys actually got paid to make these decisions, you'd also keep Maton up, none of you poor couch schlubs who dont know **** about baseball get it...

  15. I'd be happy with Meadows getting called up so we actually can field three outfielders. McKinstry can play third.

  16. Maton had 2 hits yesterday. That gets him another month of starting at 3rd base and hitting 5th.

  17. Put Schoop in at third and put Maton on the bus to Toledo right now....

  18. Bringing Short into the game is a the perfect opportunity to upgrade the D in the late innings, but Maton still at 3rd trying to lose the game.

  20. Well, to be fair, Carpenter is 2 years older. Torkelson is only going to be 24 years old this August. He could pass for 30.

  21. 19th RD Carpenter >>> #1 OA Tork...and it's not even close.

  22. That's why I like the idea of Harrison Barnes. Vet who can spread the floor (career 38% from 3) and would be a great rental player while the "chili simmers". You can give him a reasonable contract with a team option for the last year to make it easier to trade if necessary. But I truly believe we have to move Bogie. We were the second worst defense in the league last year, Weaver has spent the off-season talking about defense, and he's drafted for defense as well. The defense doesn't get better with Bogie as your starting Forward. He'd be great for a contender that needs shooting, he's coming off of a career year, and he has a very friendly contract. Move him now while he has high value.

  24. Noted 1-1 bust Mickey Moniak went 5-5 for the Angels last. There's hope for Tork... 😀

  25. I think it is the wrong time for this team to go all in on free agency. We have no clue what Cade, Ivey, and Ausar are even going to be in a few years. Even the role players like Duren and Stewart are unknowns at this point, well maybe not Stewart so much. I will sign just about anyone to a 1 or 2 year deal. Those never handicap you. But you start talking 3 or 4 years and 20%-25% of our cap? Nope. It would have to be such a clear home run free agent pickup for me to commit to that. But no way am I giving a guy like Cam Johnson 4/$120m which is what people are saying they would give him. This team is full of kids who need to develop. Let that happen for the next 2 or 3 years then start to go big in free agency. For one, if those kids do develop it will be easier and cheaper to attract free agents here. And two, we will know what skills those guys developed or more importantly, didn't develop. Then you can use free agency to shore up areas we are lacking in. All the ingredients for the chili are in the pot. This is where you let it simmer for an hour or two and see what flavors develop. Then you start to adjust your seasoning. I also value flexibility. Every year there is some team(s) looking to clear cap space to make some move. I like keeping some space to help those teams. Let them park a bad deal on our roster for a year and pick up a draft pick for doing so.

  26. Just a reminder that the Edith Piaf song in Inception Non, je ne regrette rien" is the song which translates "No, I regret nothing" which was adopted by the French Airborne as their anthem after they tried to overthrow the French Government. I always thought that was pretty bad ass. Still, you can't trust mercs. We have this problem in the United States now and should do more to manage these bearded jackanaps.

  32. another 2 hits for P Meadows tonight. 916 OPS for June, but still can't get the K rate under 30%. That's his last hurdle, but too many guys founder on it.

  33. Yes. I like those games where it doesn't feel like a win but it is... so maybe they'll explode with offense tomorrow.

  38. I think Yzerman is smart enough to not overbid, which I think would be the case of offering both first round picks (+) for Debrincat. Start with an offer of the 17 plus a player, be ready to add one second round pick, or substitute the player to a slightly better one, but don’t bid against yourself. Not every team that would like Debrincat is in a position to do so cap-wise. Or at least without significant hassles.

  39. Ozzie Virgil was one of those guys who did nothing of value during his playing career, but I heard about him forever because he was a coach for 19 years. Because I heard his name as a coach and many anecdotes about his playing days, I thought he must have been a decent player, but accumulated negative WAR over a span of 14 years. On top of that, his son Ozzie Jr played 11 seasons and actually was decent which confused things even more.

  42. That makes me four for four! “I would not expect to sign any position-player free agents until after we start playing spring training games. I'm fairly confident we'll get somebody, but probably not a somebody that anybody here really wants on the team as of today. It's going to be somebody we're not talking about now, and who comes here because he needs a job. Think along the lines of Johan Comargo or Cesar Hernandez or Jonathan Davis or Jake Marisnick.”
