i know this season is tough as a tigers' fan (although i would argue it was quite expected and what really matters is greene doing well and improvement from tork), but as a card carrying member of the tigers diaspora sitting in chicago, it has been AWESOME to watch the white sox go down in absolute flames. yes, i am a hater. proud of it. i was terrified that the sox had finally done the right thing and rebuilt the right way quickly, but almost everything they've done has turned to dust. eloy? injured and lazy. moncada? "injured" and lazy. lynn? fat. vaughn? average. tim anderson? worried about instagram more than his fading abilities. and the best part was them hiring tony larussa right during their peak window. chef's kiss! it is has been a glorious fall. swift and lovely.7 points

From a graphic Bally's broadcast showed: Tork on pace for 36 doubles, 24 HR and 88 RBI. If he does it, he would be the first 23 year old Tiger to do that since Hank Greenberg.4 points

Last time I was conned with a answer like that was at a job interview where the boss told me I was getting his old client list only to find out later that 2/3 of the accounts were on trade and I got nothing for servicing them and the rest of the accounts had 4 other people on them in the year or so before I came in. In other words I learned over 40 years ago never to believe a con man. Especially one who has proved it over and over.2 points

only a simple minded person would fail to see the distinction between censorship and holding someone accountable for lying under oath - which was known long ago in a time far away as 'bearing false witness' and has been duly categorized in well known lists as a no-no ever since then.2 points

Barring a completely catastrophic turn of events (think major medical flags or the kid just straight walking away), this deal gets done. They knew exactly what he wanted before they picked him and don't make the selection that high without it being a 99% certainty. Once they drafted McGonigle, their math and draft decisions included his number.2 points

Be sure to fill the bathtub with hydro immediately. Get the gold buried in the back yard. Barricade all entrances but allow yourself an auxiliary exit that none of your "neighbors" know about. Remove any outward signs that you may be at home or have food. You do not want to attract raiders.2 points

I think we need to be cognizant of scouts perusing these pages to gain info on the trade bait. I'd suggest we refer to these fellows as World Series Champion Rodriguez and All Star Lorenzen in an attempt to drive up the prices.2 points

I would be super impressed when he extends them and then turns around and trades for a closer and a bat*. [a human who bats, not a chunk of ash wood in cylindrical form]2 points

I didn’t read the article but it reeks of more “Democrats need to give Republicans what they want or you never know what crazy thing Uncle Billy might do”. Yeah no thanks.2 points

He keeps improving. What more can we ask of a 23 year old?2 points

Workman should get a refund from his offseason hitting coach. Or hire Carpenter’s next time.1 point

Yeah hard pass. This would just give future presidents free rein to do whatever criming they want without consequences. That’s not a precedent we need.1 point

My philosophy about what Scott Harris needs to do is take a page out of Ulysses S. Grant's book. Instead of retreating or regrouping he should keep going toward the objective.1 point

How do we add hitters without trading prospects? I don’t see it. And how do we justify giving six more years to Eduardo through age 36 and letting Lorenzen walk after the year for nothing, when we still have an entire hitting structure to rebuild? I don’t see that either. I know everyone wants to win NOW, and I’d like to win this year, too, but I would rather take that run with the guys we have after trading Eduardo and Lorenzen and Cisnero and, if we can get something great for them, Lange and/or Foley. I don’t want to start trading guys like Colt Keith and Jace Jung and Wilmer Flores and Ty Madden and Parker Meadows to try and pick up some second division veteran hitter Paul Goldschmidt or Eugenio Suarez or Ryan McMahon. And I’d bet money Scott Harris is selling regardless of how we do in the next week and a half.1 point

I would trade prospects in a heartbeat, but not for middling players or rentals. Jobe, Jung and Meadows for Nolan Arenado? Hell yes.1 point

you'd have to believe they can play 600 the rest of the way. Just hard to see. If you could add hitters without losing Lorenzen and ERod - maybe, but how could you do that without giving away the future? Can't do it.1 point

Dan Dickerson keeps talking about things like putting together a little win streak to “change the narrative” at the trade deadline. He cannot possibly be talking about trading prospects for middling big leaguers just to likely still fall short of winning the division, can he?1 point

The Tigers have never really had a good defensive OF since moving into Commercial Park. One would think that would be a priority, but it hasn't been. Maybe after 20some previous years and 3 previous GMs it can be something to look at?1 point

This is to keep Cam Maybin from saying something insane I suppose. Or, maybe its Dan Dickerson's secret to good HR calls.1 point

No, not seriously. CMT did not ban the song because of the "politics". They banned it because the explicit threat of violence against people merely for protesting cops and the flag, the putting of protesters in the same category as carjackers and robbers, and the encouraging of people to use violence against all of them, creates a clear line of liability for them. CMT is not some Kremlin-funded bomb-throwing MAGA racket like Overthrow America Network. CMT ispart of MTV Entertainment Group, a division of Paramount, which means they have to do business with the rest of America, including its judicial system, and they don't want to be held liable for their part in whatever might happen arising from disseminating the ideas in this song. Funny how you leapt right to BLM. Even Jason Aldean didn't go all the way there, but looks like you heard that in his message loud and clear. Looks like the song works as intended, doesn't it?1 point

perfect example of a nice win for Avila that somehow we can't give him credit for; it does not change the fact that he was overall really bad1 point

Sure. And Jones would be the first to admit that Lange probably has more speed and stuff, too. What was his line? He tried to get to 3 outs before the opposition realized he didn't have all that much?1 point

Rittenhouse wasn't in his town when he killed people. He wasn't even in his home state. Then again, small town Aldean is from Macon so apparently the cosplay makes for consistent comparison1 point

Without looking at the Jets message boards, my guess is their reaction is similar to what ours was when the Falcons acquired Okudah for cheap. I don’t expect much out of Mims, but he’s worth the price paid. ASB/Jamo*/Jones/Mims/Raymond/Reynolds/Green1 point

That's called "too late to the table" and yes, that's part of why he did get canned. IIRC, Avila did move pitifully slow in bringing in guys/ scouts that actually understood the word "analytics", and what to do with them, which says: he didn't know who they were/ he was in over his head/ he didn't have the contacts/ draw power to bring in those guys. Or, all of the above. But, starting in 2018 (pre-draft-hitters "era"); I started to really like his drafts. (Faedo & Vest are still here from 2017 but that's not much...): 2018: Mize, Skubal, Parker Meadows (at AAA and still has a chance) and guys still hanging on or were part of a trade: Kody Clemens (made it to MLB-Philly this year with a .644 OPS), Garrett Hill, plus some relievers still kicking around that probably amount to nothing but, still in the Org so they... "have a chance"? 2019: Riley Greene, Kerry Carpenter, Beau Brieske, plus a lot of fringy guys like Kreidler, Lipcius, Brendan White, Navigato. 2020 (5 round draft): Torkelson, Dingler (did ok at Erie so there's still hope), Colt Keith (on the verge), and still might have a chance: Trei Cruz, Wilmer Flores (signed as an undrafted FA pitcher after the draft)... versus guys who are struggling to make progress (but still too early to consign to a dustbin): Daniel Cabrera, Gage Workman... The newer drafts are too recent to know whether we get decent players out of there or not. But there are a lot of promising candidates... Overall... the correct assessment on Avila seems to be: too little, too late, and too lazy.1 point

I was looking at Tork's latest stats and Tork is officially above average with a 101 wRC+ for the season and a 0.4 WAR (according to FG). In the last 30 games, he has this slash line is .246/.308/.533. Pretty solid, if you look at the last 15 it is even better, .300/.373/.650.1 point
