Ty Madden had another good outing today. 5IP 3H 1R(solo HR) 10Ks. In his last 3 starts he's given up just 7 hits and 1 run combined with 20Ks.2 points

Never undertip to make a point. Out with a friend, meal on him, and he was unhappy with the service, so he said he was going to tip them 10%. I said come on, you can’t do that, you have to give them at least 15% here. He said, no, he was going to teach them not to give bad service. (I didn’t think the service itself was so bad, but he was unhappy with it.) I said, well look, if you’re not gonna give them 15%, then just stiff ‘em. That’ll get your point across. He was taken aback some by that. He’s like, nah, I can’t stiff ‘em. I have to give them something. I said, well, if you’re gonna give them something, then give them at least 15%. He asks, why shouldn’t I tip them 10% if I want? Well, you can if you want, you’re the customer. But if you do that, then no one is happy. They’re unhappy and think you’re a **** for undertipping them, and you’re unhappy because you had to give them anything at all for service you didn’t like. Nobody wins there. So either give them 15%, or stiff ‘em. At least someone will be happy. He laughed at that. He thought I was being funny, although I was totally serious. So he tipped them 10% and we left. And he was unhappy at having to tip her at all, and I presume she thought we were both dicks because he undertipped them. So I got to lose by extension on this one as well. Next time I’m just going to leave the difference in cash when he’s not looking.2 points

When conservatives do it its a boycott. When libs do it its Woke Anti American Cancel Culture. Is that right?2 points

What? I have to hear CMoe on Paramount too! If I hear him pronounce the word established with the non-word "extablish, I'm going to snap!2 points

I want the Twins or Guardians to win games so the Tigers don't delude themselves into thinking they are in a race. I'm sure Harris knows the talent on this roster is years away. It's easier to sell when you are 8 games out.2 points

Yeah. I try to be “in charge” of the bill when I’m out with friends, because some of them are (imo) under-tippers, and I’m admittedly an over-tipper because I’ve had quite a number of people in my family who at some point in their lives were waitstaff or bartenders. If the friends ask what the amount is before tip, and they think I’ve added too much for the tip, I back down, and then I just throw in more (without them noticing). I know that sometimes, the less than stellar service might have as its cause nothing to do with them in particular, but a backup in the kitchen,,etc. Also… we’ve all had days where maybe we’re not at our best. The caveat here is, of course, encountering outright rudeness… um, yeah, not going to reward that with a big tip, but also, I’d let a manager or owner know what was encountered. Personally, it’s never happened to me, gratefully. Also, chaz, I agree on (when possible) the tip in cash.1 point

Flip side tipping advice: if you can, tip in cash even if you use credit or debit card. Waitstaff love getting tips in cash because it’s money directly in their pocket tonight (assuming the House doesn’t skim it), not delayed; and it’s not automatically-reported income they have to claim on their tax return like a card tip would be, which saves them, what?, 25% or so?, of the tip if that’s the way they want to play it. Related mini-tip: if you tip in cash while paying by card, on the bill, in the tip box, instead of writing “0”, which just looks bad, write “cash” instead. I don’t know whether that flags anything with the House or IRS or whatever, but absent knowing that, it feels like writing “cash” is better than writing “0”.1 point

Wow...! EXACTLY the point of just playing the game today...!1 point

Re: the whole beer thing. there are several of us who don't drink the brand because we've their beer sucks. I haven't had a AB product since they've been owned by a company based in Belgium and Germany. i'm also old enough to remember when you went to an AB owned amusement park. Now it's part of a multi national corp and their parks are over priced and substandard. I guess to the MAGA's of the world who love to get gouged on very expensive roller coasters and watery beer that's woke1 point

The Rangers lost 16-3 yesterday. The Giants lost 10-1 against the Nats! Games like last night just happen sometimes.1 point

I thought the exact same thing, but was too lazy to respond… so, Thanks! 😁1 point

100%. Also as a practical example that we should all be able to understand, let's consider Will Vest who, for all intents and purposes, has been a pretty effective reliever for this club the past couple of years. He was returned by the Mariners after posting fairly terrible numbers... granted in their situation it made sense since they were competing in '21, but ot also kind of stands as an example of how past isn't always prologue as well.1 point

Englert's stuff and ceiling is much higher than what he is currently showing. The issue is why? Injury, mechanics? They need to figure it out because he is a promising prospect.1 point

I would expect them to bring in Boyd and Lorenzen types again this offseason… with the magic that Fetters and crew seem to have why not1 point

Correct. But nonetheless, the Tigers ticket into the playoffs is through their division. When statements are made about how far the team is out from the playoffs, the division they play in seems like an important consideration.1 point

There's a difference between AL Central good and actual good.1 point

Years away? That’s probably too negative. No one saw Baltimore’s 2022 resurgence. No one saw Texas’s this year. Two or three moves go the Tigers way and a couple of developmental successes and they could be competing in a year or two.1 point
-
If you think there's gonna be rain, seems like the smart play would be to consider an opener and bringing Manning in afterward. But there may be other considerations that we as fans don't realize, idk1 point
-
You guys are viewing this season like they are trying to win the division…its a development year its been that from the beginning. Winning games and being competitive was just a bonus.1 point
-
I'm ok with Englert on the team. They were never going to contend but after he allows a few runs, why leave him out there to give up 7,8,9 runs?1 point
-
That Englert beating so emblematic of the last 7 years. Always more eyes on the future than whatever is happening in the moment. Fair enough. But really tests the loyalty of its fans.1 point
-
If the general belief is that this team isn't going to make the playoffs, I guess I'm unclear as to why they wouldn't try to carry the Rule 5 guy for the rest of the year if they like his tools and want him to remain in the system.1 point

Man I really feel sorry for the fans who paid to see this game. I wish reporters would ask Hinch some hard questions about what exactly he was thinking.1 point

It's Wolf's fault. He's doing a rain dance before every pitch.1 point

The fans view of Jobe is so colored by Marcelo Meyer that it has obscured that Jobe really is a talented prospect in his own right. It's really that simple. And while I get it, I wish he wasn't so defined by that and I dont think he should be imo.1 point
-
I'm tellin ya, seeing that approach to start the game makes me question Hinch what he actually does/says to these hitters in certain situations. That was just awful.1 point
-
BTW it may say more about the current state of pitching prospects in general but Law has Jobe as the 3rd best pitching prospect in all of baseball right now only behind Skenes who was viewed as generational and Tink Hence of the Cardinals.1 point

Fulmer was replaced by Drew Smyly, and the cardinals have just brought in Drew VerHagen. It’s a Tiger Pitcher Party!1 point

It's sort of cheating though - Minny's appearances in in the 70's and 80's were 'unserious' (for lack of a better word).1 point

A winter in Mackinac Island or Put-In-Bay or Petee Island (Lake Erie) would be pretty interesting. Did it freeze around Mackinac at all this winter? I would imagine there’s a fair amount of snowmobile/ATV traffic from island to mainland during the heart of a normal winter.1 point

If it is just two guys in the same game, in 1980 Minnie Minoso played in a game with HOFer Harold Baines. Minoso started in 1946 and Baines retired in 2001.1 point

Because of family considerations it will probably never happen but I would love to spend a winter on the island. I watched a PBS doc on winter living and it seemed fascinating. There’s a great Facebook page called Mackinac Island News and Views. The winter posts are my favorite.1 point

I met him once. His handler told me to mention how much older he was than his wife because it was one of his favorite things to hear. In hindsight I think I was set up. Still he was very kind and engaging.1 point
