Hard to understand how Killian can still be on the roster after 3yrs plus a 4th pre-season without any discernible sign of improvement. Only the FO's continuing inability to obtain any better talent.2 points

Heard from relatives of theirs this morning that folks are okay. Most of it went down about two miles from their home, locked down, but okay2 points

Oh my heck. This might be the only off-season in a long time I’ve actually been interested in. My busy schedule of partying with ladies swimwear models and movie stars doesn’t usually leave much time for the off-season. But I am prepared to be disappointed. I’m not qualified to speculate about anything, except for the possibility of being disappointed.2 points

All the horrible loss did was calm everyone down about where their ranking was in the rest of the league. Baltimore could lose to Arizona this weekend. It doesn't mean were worse than Arizona, it just means that sometimes its a bad weekend or you have bad matchups with injuries and so forth. I don't think anyone thought the Lions were worse than Carolina last year but that game was almost worst than this loss. How bad they lost definitely should make the team concerned about some of their weaknesses. To me they are where you want a team to be in a 3 year of a major rebuild. You want to be a playoff team with a chance to be better. You have a great core of young players. You built really good offensive and defensive lines. They do not have generational QB so you will need to keep on drafting good and make good decisions in FA and trades. If you want to compete for a long time. With great drafting after round 1 makes it where a team can afford to make mistakes on first rounders. That is the difference with this team and past teams. Past teams rarely had top level talent after round 1. Past teams couldn't afford to miss on Carter. Or make the mistake with Jaymo.2 points

I think it's somewhat disappointing that an 84-78 team is going to play a 90-72 team in the World Series. I know that's the kind of thing we can expect to see more of with expanded playoffs, and in fact I will enjoy watching these games and certain of the players on these teams. I would prefer the teams with the best records, or close to the best, make the Series. Just my preference, shaped by a lifetime of fandom. YMMV, and probably does. Of course, if the Tigers go 84-78 next season and make the World Series, I will definitely throw this opinion into the dustbin of history. 😁2 points

Cool story, Andrew Saalfrank went to my kids Lutheran school in New Haven, IN. In 8th grade his basketball team went to the Lutheran national final four, lost in championship game. He was an assistant coach for my son's basketball team two years ago when they finished runner up in the state championship. Still comes to our little church when he is back in town.2 points

Everything is relative to the deal that's made. I wouldn't want to give up too much for only one guaranteed season. Absorb Carpenter's contract and get Kim with that for a run of the mill RP in the minors, that's fine. That deal probably isn't there. I'm good with moving one of Jung/Keith. I think they should gauge trade interest to be honest. They seem somewhat duplicative. Promising looking lefty bat that fits adequately at one of 2B/3B, but not quite solidly. That's a bit generic, but it sounds like that's about what the Tigers have there. So, how can they leverage that surplus to address a need?1 point

You can't identify who is mentally ill or going to be mentally ill. It's just not possible. Mental illness varies in type, comes and goes, gets exacerbated by life events, and comes and goes from people who do have and manage it. And I do think one of the first things that our politicians can do to help any public mental health problems would be to tone down the rhetoric, but that would require the public not rewarding them with donations when they do act all partisan and bombastic.1 point

I'll never not believe she is a total phony. If you want to call yourself Lady Gaga as a stage name instead of Stefani Germanotta, that's fine. Lots of singers have stage names. If you want to dress in different, weird, or unique costumes on stage, that's fine too. I love KISS and they built a career out of it. But to want me to believe that his is the type of person you really are, even when he lights and camera aren't on you, that I cannot do. I am just not going to believe this is how you really are behind the scenes and that you aren't just doing this all for the media attention. I also don't believe she refers to her real life friends as Little Monsters. She's got a fantastic PR team, I'll give her that.1 point

Speaking of Lady GaGa. She sings along with Lukas in this song, which is great. If you haven't seen the newer A Star is Born, you must. His band is Cooper's backup in the film.1 point

Yep. That's exactly it. Ausar will likely be a non-factor offensively especially early in the season but he brings so much more to the table that's invaluable, stuff that Killian doesn't. You can have one black hole on offense but you can't have two so you keep the one that has more intangibles in the starting lineup which is clearly Ausar even just 1 game into his career.1 point

Cade highlights from last night. Pay attention when it gets to the 4th quarter. Look how involved Cade was to the late run that brought them back. Scoring, setting people up, defensive stops. It was all on display last night.1 point

They frame the issue as an either or: either it's the guns, or it's mental illness. It's not either or. It's both.1 point

As if mental illness is stable and constant. People get the ****s and it goes away. Then they eat some tainted lettuce and get the ****s again.1 point

There is some truth to this, but the same people that make this claim anytime we see something like this, do nothing to try and help deal with mental illness.1 point

Maybe that’s why I don’t like them—that and the fact that they won a ring four years into their damn existence. Just like the Marlins won theirs in their fifth year. It’s so sad to see geographical bases that don’t really care about their teams, like the Florida teams or Arizona or the Braves, get decent teams that go to playoffs while loyal fan bases like ours suffer. I’m optimistic about the direction of our team, though, and I’m ready for some October baseball instead of October golf.1 point

According to a friend of mine, who lives in Arizona, they’re not that big of a deal even in Phoenix. I find this hard to believe, but my friend still lives in Tucson and has been there for 50 years and although that’s not Phoenix he’s a lot closer to the situation than I am. Everyone living in Phoenix — or almost everyone — is from someplace else. It’s not like it has a stable cross generational fanbase like the Tigers.1 point

I would love to acquire a high-end talent like Brian Burns, Chase Young, Maxx Crosby, Danielle Hunter, or Budda Baker. I just don't see us in the market for that type of a talent given the draft capital we would likely have to give up and the cap hit that player might take up. I still believe Holmes, if he makes a move at all, will trade for a mid-level starter on defense or a rotational player like Montez Sweat, Cam Jordan, or Adoree Jackson. I think Holmes likes to have draft capital at his expense and likes to sign guys that are on more team-friendly deals. I believe Holmes wants to save his cap space for his guys, That he's drafted as well. If that is the case, I partially disagree with it. If you have the chance to get a game changing talent, when you're on the cusp of being a very good team and a division winner, you need to make a impact move now when you're team has its window to win open.1 point

Said it before and I'll say it again, the 2nd Amendment is an outdated relic that has no place in today's society. I'm all for people being able to own certain types of weapons, but nobody needs high capacity semi-automatic rifles unless they are law enforcement or military.1 point

Yea, I’m not so sure about that. Neither of them shot well, but Ausar was 1-2 from three and shot 40% from deep in preseason. Killian was 0-6 and shot 22% in preseason to go along with a history of bricks from three. I’d rather have Ausar out there for everything else he brings defensively and on the glass, because it’s not even close in those areas.1 point
-
Would’ve loved to see Ausar out there in the 4th over Killian. Either way, I’m happy with a competitive, one point loss against the defending Eastern Conference Champs. Defense was up and down but overall way better than last season. Cade was unstoppable. Stew and Duren were tough in the paint. Fun game. Next game I’d rather see Burks in the starting lineup over Hayes. Or even Sasser who plays just as hard as Killian on defense but he can also shoot.1 point

This is more effort on defense than the Pistons showed all of last year. Would have liked to see Ausar on Butler though. Killian works hard but just can't really hold up against Butler.1 point

Cade is playing great and there is still just not enough offense in the starting lineup. It makes sense to start Duren and Thompson because they have elite defensive potential and are a big part of the future. One or both of Killian and Stewart cannot be in the starting lineup. Whether it's Ivey, Bagley, Burke, or somebody else, we need more offense with the starting five.1 point
-
I know I sound like a broken record, but we should grab a superstar hitter from the Padres. I don’t think they can afford them all. One elite bat would make a huge difference and help everyone else out.1 point

Pistons have 14 TO's and it is only halftime. Cade looks good. Killian and Ivey do not look good.1 point

Dan said on the Petzold podcast that he believes the Tigers will look for a veteran bat, or two. He also expects the team to compete for the division title. I’ve gotten to the point where I’ll have to see it to believe it.1 point

Arizona was 52-110 in 2021, 74-88 in 2022, and 84-78 this season. Texas was 60-102 in 2021, 68-94 in 2022, and 90-72 this season. Cabrera is off of the books and Baez will be the only significant salary around. There are a few emerging younger players. The pitching side seems to be a continuing positive if the can keep healthy. Do it, Scotty. Put a playoff roster together this offseason.1 point

The simple fact here is that Michigan is the team being investigated so the talking point that "everyone else does it" really isn't valid. If everyone one else was doing what Michigan is accused of doing, those teams would also be under investigation. Really amazing to see people living in such denial of the hammer that is surely going to be dropped on the program when this investigation concludes.1 point
