  1. My season ticket rep called me and offered me free VIP tailgate tickets for Monday's game. Open bar and all-you-can-eat buffet. Um.... yes please.

  2. You all have probably read this before because it's really old, but it's still pretty good. A(n apocryphal) letter to "Dr." Laura, the radio lady. Dear Dr. Laura: Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination…End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God’s Laws and how to follow them. 1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can’t I own Canadians? 2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her? 3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of Menstrual uncleanliness – Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense. 4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord – Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them? 5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it? 6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination, Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don’t agree. Can you settle this? Are there ‘degrees’ of abomination? 7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here? 8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die? 9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves? 10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev.24:10-16. Couldn’t we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14) I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I’m confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God’s word is eternal and unchanging. Your adoring fan, Anonymous

  6. Mental health is an issue, sure. But this is a situation where a mental health issue was discovered months ago. And yet, here we are with another mass shooting. So now what? Tell you what, the new speaker of the house wants to be a leader and believes he has the solution to the problem? Drop his ass off in Maine, let him be a part of the manhunt, let him try to talk the gun out of Card's hands. Go ahead, let leadership have at it.

  9. Jeez Louise, I think the president has better things to do with his time than memorize the names and faces of the whole white House press corps and all their alternates. If he uses a photo sheet so he can be more polite to people and call them by name instead of asking them they are, good for him.

  10. See, now I look at that picture, and I think it’s kind of a “what’s that person’s name?” list. Some may be familiar faces, but if a news magazine chooses to send someone different that day, maybe be a good idea to know what their name is. Lol, I’m not sure that picture indicates an order in which they should ask, or answer, specific reporters. I have no idea.

  12. Saw that, too. We actually "watched" it while driving to Pennsyvania on the first leg of our driving vacation. Opened the DirecTV app, it was already sitting in our DVR queue, propped the phone onto the dashboard, and voila. It works while driving because it's more like a radio play on TV, so I didn't have to actually watch it, although my wife did. In fact, you could probably listen to it podcast style and not really miss anything.

  13. I'm with you. It's how I felt about the Atlanta game after they lost to Seattle, I knew they'd win that game and knew that they'd beat the Panthers by double digits when some folks were apprehensive that they'd have a letdown after Green Bay. I didn't have any feel for how it would go in Baltimore although I was leaning loss because they suck against mobile QBs but this Raiders game is pretty much a locked in win, I have the utmost confidence that they don't lose that game unless Goff goes down. Looks like we're both all in, setting ourselves up for some serious Motownforums Mockery if they lose to the Raidaahs.

  16. I don't remember the last time I was this confident coming into a game that the Lions would win. Everything from the last three years tells me this will be a convincing win. I was pretty confident last year against the Bears in Week 17, for similar reasons, but this Lions team is better than that team was, has done this before, and is playing an equally bad team. Surely I won't look back on this post in regret on Tuesday.

  18. The Caine Mutiny Court Martial. (2023, Showtime) The last "movie" directed by William Friedkin. Based on the original play in 1953. Keifer Sutherland in the Commander Queeg role, Jason Clark as Lt Barney Greenwald and a cast of recognizable characters. Lance Riddick was powerful as the presiding officer. It's been updated a bit, now set in 2022, using the Straits of Hormuz as the site of the Mutiny. The play is set entirely in the courtroom, except for the final scene. Sutherland makes a very credible Queeg, Clark is great as the reluctant, badgering attorney. (Note he had a similar role in Oppenheimer). It's worth watching.

  20. Saw it yesterday. Sweeping epic that really gets quiet during the last hour, and fatigue can set in, before the final radio show reenactment scene. The final scene between Mollie and Ernest is heartbreaking.

  24. I can see a scenario where deals are cut to ask certain questions so POTUS is instructed to call on them at some point. But I can’t see a normal journalist agreeing if they know that’s the only questions. It’s fiction sure but the show did have former WH staff as writers. On the season 2 finale of the west wing Bartlett was to call on a certain reporter first in order to help calm things down initially (whether he was to run again after revealing he concealed MS). I won’t spoil it. That run of episodes is the greatest thing ever on network TV.

  27. What happens if this guy is in the seat on January 6, 2025 and refuses to certify Biden's second term. What happens then? Lets hope the Democrats take back congress and rule that out January 3rd. If this guy is in the seat there is no way he certifies. No way. Would that make himself President?

  31. In Atlanta for a radio conference in the Mid 90s and I am riding up this escalator with my boss from a MARTA station. It had to be 4-5 stories long and my boss says to me "I feel like I am going up to meet God" when some buttinski says "Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your savior?" and my boss just looked at him and "No" and the guy moved away from us as fast as he could. Oh, you had to be there, it was perfect.

  34. Bosses who let politics determine their leadership decisions. We have a small staff - 6 people in 1 building - When Covid hit in 2020, we all stayed healthy, but in 2021 our boss got it really bad. Refused to go to the doctor - missed 5 weeks of work - & has been a shell of himself since. 6 months later, our program director contracted it, refused to get tested, & kept working - Within a week the rest of the staff were all Covid positive - At which point the 2 of them decided "Well, since we've all got it - we might as well all work." Now here we are almost 2 full years later - the PD has it again - and still comes to work every day - and the boss refuses to tell him to stay home or allow the rest of us to work from home. Needless to say I am now entertaining other job possibilities.
