There are 3 kinds of “mistakes”. The first is when the body doesn’t do what the mind wants it to. A bad throw. Dropped pass. Missed putt. Etc. When I hear fans try to downplay the importance of this call by pointing out “well if Goff hits his guy…”. That misses the point. Those are execution errors that’s based on skill level. Both sides are competing hard to win. Sometimes you execute and sometimes you don’t. No amount of practice or prep will deliver 100% results. The players know immediately they messed up. The second kind are judgement calls. Either you didn’t see it or saw something and didn’t feel at that moment it rose to the level, or vice versa. Snap calls made on the spot. Those are somewhat forgivable and there’s replay to help out. this kind of mistake is just a flat out screw up. I don’t even know what to call it. The only analogy I can think of is a baseball manager telling the umpire of a lineup change in the 8th inning then they get called out for batting out of order.2 points

That needs to be reviewable now. The refs need to wear body cams like police do.2 points

Yes it was, mostly, the refs game in the end. They literally called back a potential game deciding play. If you hit a buzzer beater three and the officials call it back on an incorrect decision you don't sit around and think about the missed layup at 4:02 in the 2nd quarter. You rightly recognize the incorrect call by the officials at the end of the game. The same goes here. You can breakdown this game and pass around the pie of blame. But the fact is the refs get the biggest slice of blame because they directly took points off the board, at the end of the game, and potentially, likely, cost us the game.2 points

no son. "making **** up" is you pretending like you know football. i'm telling you the truth. you really do ruin this thread every week. every. single. week. we have a nice little group of posters who like to talk lions. and during the week youre fine, even with your stupid takes on ben johnson. but youre awful in the game threads. you should really dial it back a notch. be like mcs and smoke something before (and after) the game.2 points

YOU RUIN EVERY GAME THREAD! SINGLE HANDEDLY! you are the most annoying poster on this whole board and if you left tomorrow the board would be a better place. you are awarded no points and may satan have mercy on your soul. good night.2 points

we'll wait for the explanation on the last penalty after the game. in hindsight, kick the extra point after the penalty.2 points

Plus you show the team that you believe in them and that you have brass balls and believe me, that is going to resonate with those players. I guarantee you there is not a single player in that locker room grousing about what Campbell did. He showed a lot of love and respect to his players by asking them to go get it and the loss stings but that, in the long run, only fuels this team's fire.1 point

It's interesting to me that trumps legal defenses aren't along the lines of "I didn't crime". They're all some variety of "I'm allowed to crime".1 point

One big on the floor certainly helps. But Cade has been playing better even before Stewart got hurt. I think the Cade turn around started when Bojan returned from his injury. He spaces the floor and gives Cade space to operate. He also is a second option to create offense, which is a huge weight off of Cunningham's shoulders.1 point

Picking up a penalty flag after announcing penalty in Dallas? I don't think that has been done before.1 point

Simple explanation is that we got hosed1 point

Another black eye for the NFL. I guess legalized gambling had nothing to do with it. Throwing a flag 3 minutes after the play is over. If the player was ineligible, a flag should have came out immediately. Big time wrestling credibility.1 point

This game has almost nothing to do with the refs. Nothing. Decker was ineligible 2 different ways. The lions had endless chances. They don’t nothing on offense. Goff struggled. That’s why they lost.1 point

In an alternate universe, I’m going to take Dan Miller’s call of the 1st attempt of the 2 Pt conversion as definitive and forget what happened starting seconds later. Lions Convert 2 Pt Covnersion.m4a1 point

I agreed with going for it initially but after the penalty I would've kicked it.1 point

I dunno man... I just don't know that they would have the intention of throwing to Decker and not having Decker report. I think it's entirely possible the refs didn't hear him report or something, but jeez man... how would they not having Decker report if that was the intended play?1 point
-
Well. He wasn’t covered either. Even if he reported he would have been ineligible. This was an epic coaching meltdown. Kick the ****ing extra point and go to OT. The replay clearly shows decker didn’t report. And was uncovered. Coaches lost the game for the lions tonight. All of them. Except Aaron Glenn. Somehow.1 point

It’s hard to make good play calls when your offensive line is letting guys go five yards into the backfield before the ball is handed off1 point

Cade's free throws per game are creeping up each month. Which is also helping his scoring average creep up each month. That's a good sign. When you can go for 30 and it feels like it was somewhat a quiet 30, it's a good sign.1 point

This has happened multiple times lately. Lions get a turnover and return it to the edge of FG range and then go backwards on a 3 and out and punt. It seems they are never prepared after a big turnover.1 point

It was stunning to me to read the stat about us being 0-15-1 when we score fewer than 4 goals. I knew we were porous defensively this year and have had our share of goaltending concerns, but my god. Outside of acquiring talent and hoping for healthy goaltenders, I don't know how you substantially improve on that. I don't feel like their is a schematic or system change Lalonde can make that will drastically improve our defense and our ability to hold onto a lead. Once again, all the good feelings from a decent start to the season have been completely erased this year and here I sit worried. Though this year, unlike last, I am worried not as much about scoring, as much as I am about our inability to play any stay home defense and hold onto a lead.1 point

Before I die I want to have the confidence that Killian Hayes has. How he thinks he should ever shoot the basketball is beyond me. Other than and of quarter/shot clock situations he should never shoot.1 point

The Tigers still play the Braves every year though. It's not like the leagues matter that much anymore. I think that's a mistake as I think the AL versus NL thing was one of the things that made baseball unique, but that's the way it is.1 point
