  1. they did a ST game. I made note of the fact that the Tigers booth had both a guy with CP and a guy with Parkinson's. A testemant to what's possible.

  2. Yesterday I predicted Manning would toss seven innings of no hit ball and 93 pitches so I came close.

  3. Well, I’m starting to wonder if 162-0 is overly optimistic.

  6. That’s a great story. My brother-in-law, who became an engineer instead of a class D, Pirates minor-league pitcher was great to watch a game with partly because of his engineer mentality I think. He had a razor sharp interest in the game that was infectious and dragged you into it in an incredibly satisfying manner. I went to six games in the 1980s in Nashua New Hampshire which was the Pirates AA team and I had more fun with him at a game than anyone in my life. He saw Ted Kluszewski in the stands and told me about him and the Pieates won every single game coming from behind as either a walk off or with runs scored in the eighth inning. It was like this little miracle staged for the two of us.

  7. Angel calls a foul ball, and then changes his mind and said Tork swung. And it wasn’t even remotely a swing. Wow.

  9. Really nice outing from Mize overall.... considering how long it's been since he's pitched

  11. And now a "magic loogie" reference from Benetti that Monroe pretended he understood. God, I love having the new guy aboard.

  12. Honestly, it's a lot of what you are saying. Where we disagree is that, IMO, the administration probably understands and internalizes these same things but has the added weight of having to worry about how these actions would influence broader stability in the ME. For instance, do these actions creater further tension or embolden Iran, for instance? It's easy for Jon Favreau and the PodBros to lob grenades on this stuff because it isn't their responsibility to have to worry about the consequences.... it's a lot harder when you are the Principal and have to piece it together.

  13. What I like about living in the west is that you feel like you’re driving in a convertible all the time. When I lived in the Midwest, the horizon was a hazy tree line nearby, and the clouds seem to be much lower in the sky for some reason. Out here the sky is so expansive it affects me internally. It’s like living in the Sound of Music.

  14. I don’t like the rain that much. When I was going to Purdue in 1970 our college newspaper, the Exponent, ran an article that Auburn had the lowest precipitation in the entire state, and my feeling was that it rained all the time in Auburn. What I like about where I live in Boise Idaho is that the neighborhoods here remind me of where I grew up in Indiana, but there’s low humidity and there’s mountains on the horizon right outside of town. They give me a sense of dimension and possibility that I never felt living in the Midwest.

  15. Garrett completely out of sorts and throws it to the backstop. Next pitch, McKinstry swings at a pitch at his shoetops. Damn. Frodo can give up some bombs. Wasn’t a bad pitch though

  16. I'm waiting for some researcher to send over to the booth "This is first time a team ever won it's first three games by one run, it's next two games in extra innings and took a no hitter to the seventh" like it would be a surprise.

  19. They still have a piece of my heart. Family homestead was about 30 miles west of Pittsburgh, near McKeesport. I was 8 in 1960. My son was born 9 months after the We Are Family Bucs won the series. When we moved south in the mid '60, one of the Pirates farm clubs were in nearby Salem, first as their Rookie League team, then Class A Salem. It was fun watching guys like Dave Parker, Ed Ott, John Candelaria and Omar Moreno come up in the minors.

  24. This is only because no one is really paying attention to the actual election today, except for RABID MAGA. I mean, not only them... But I think today's polls are unserious. And ONLY when the election date actually comes into scope will people stop mucking around with being mushy and firm up, IMO, recognizing how atrocious another Trump administration would be for this country and quit F'ing around and swing their support fully behind Biden. I also have a healthy dose of fear... I mean, anything could go wrong... But I have true confidence (it may come off as "bravado" but I believe it's closer to "true confidence") that all the factors in this country will come together and be a major repudiation of Trump.

  31. Anyone. But it IS an accurate statement. So... why won't Hamas just SURRENDER and save the fate of ALL their brethren? I've asked this since the middle of November. Why won't they surrender and save all their brother and sister Gazans? Don't they love their fellow Gazans? All those women and children, that they are related to? Dying under Israel's invasion and hunt for their hostages and the terrorists who committed that awful Oct 7th butchery? All they'd have to do is give up all the hostages, surrender, give up all their arms... low-level guys or those not directly involved in the Oct 7th butchery or kidnappings probably sent home, maybe after 90 days incarceration, and only the leaders (Sinwar, etc.) put on trial for implementing their Butchery and sentenced to death. Or maybe even the leaders could be allowed to escape into exile. Although I don't believe Israel would be too keen on that idea...

  33. The offense is going to pivot on the young hitters development. Right now, all of them are popping up or grounding out. So we just need to see a few get going. As it stands now, Greene and Tork are unproven over the long term.

  34. I don't want to accent-shame anyone here, not even a guy who is objectively terrible at his high-visibility job. But every time I hear Craig Monroe say "extablish", I focus on how weird it is for someone to say "extablish", and I don't even hear what might well be a very well-thought-out idea being articulated after that unfortunate rendering of the word "establish".

  35. The Arab world has closed its borders to Palestinians since partition. It's part of their foundational political/religious stance. The world shouldn't give them as much a pass on it as it has, but don't expect it to change.

  36. Remember, that type of Christian doesn't follow Loving Hippie Jesus and pray for peace and harmony among all the peoples of the world. They believe in Asskicking Warrior Jesus and they pray for their enemies to be vanquished so they can be privileged as the unchallenged leaders of the world until the Apolcalypse comes.

  40. He obviously didn't win reelection regardless, but I do think the lack of door to door canvassing on the D side in 2020 had helped Trump to an extent in that election

  41. Trump had such an easy term. He only had one crisis. All he had to do was put Mike Pence in charge of the COVID response and say nothing and he probably wins re-election.

  44. The WSJ is completely in thrall of Trump and MAGA. The polls you quoted, from them, I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw Trump. Which is zero. All polls are garbage as far as I'm concerned, not just WSJ, until we hit mid-October... from that point, I might take a look. But probably not. I just have no interest there. And... Trump is going down in flames.

  45. If Florida is in play, then Georgia and Arizona are definitely gone, North Carolina is probably gone, Texas and Maine-2 will be on the bubble, and even Alaska and Iowa will be interesting. If Trump ends up losing Ohio, it should be an electoral bloodbath.
