  1. Oh, come on. Every single time Fauci has been requested to appear, HE SHOWS UP, and every single time he’s accused of doing something illegal/unethical and “we have proof” - nothing ever produced, but let’s keep accusing him. Eventually, someone will kill a family member or him. Time to put up or shut up. A congresswoman today said she has “emails”…. ****ing produce them. Questioning whether things could have been better, - reasonable. Pointing to pharmaceutical companies or particular CEO’s, etc. raking in ridiculous amounts of government money. - definitely 👍 But for God’s sake , looking at Dr. Fauci in particular as a boogy man or a monstrous entity that needs to be “thrown in prison” and not called “Doctor”, is getting infuriating. WTF

  2. I'm sorry but you all sound like a bunch of whiny crybabies. Bodies were being stacked in hallways and in portable coolers and health care workers are risking their lives trying to treat people and dying while doing so and it's like "OMG, I had to wear a mask and be 6 feet apart...." So yeah... **** the critics.

  4. This doesn't mean Tork's career is over. It's an opportunity to make adjustments to help him be successful. He did it for a couple months last year. He has to figure out how to do it more consistently.

  5. I’m laughing my ass off at the suggestion that a congressional hearing is “looking into something” rather nothing more than a gigantic grandstanding opportunity in an election year over an issue 3-4 years ago because the majority has nothing else to run on.

  7. Fidrych's last great moment with the Tigers. That's Jim Leyland (pre mustache) with his arm raised (and Jim's mom) over Maak's left shouldah. Jim was very supportive of The Bird and I think he even stayed with Jim and his mom in Toledo.

  8. don't bitch to me. I'm just going by what I am reading today. If you want me to believe that the government created covid so that shareholders could make money... I'm not listening to that bull****. Go talk to flat earthers. I'm not reading the ****ing NY Post. This little crusade of yours on this topic is hilarious and tragic. "Hey everyone... remember this from 3-4 years ago..." Let's talk about Vince Foster.

  9. why? are we experts? as if the fact that the public - who is largely devoid of scouting information and expertise - didnt have a ready made answer instead of tork thus makes tork's failures not the fault of management. or his selection is ok because fans didnt know any better. its their job to know, not our job. were just fans.

  10. Hitting a projectile thrown at high velocity with a stick over and over again, or throwing a projectile and making it do funny stuff to confuse or throw the guy with the stick off balance are two of the most sparsely distributed talents in the world. There are small number of people functioning on the planet at one time that can do that at the highest levels. It’s no surprise that guys wash out.

Sorry I am not wasting my time. You can wade into that cesspool and get in bed with them and hope you don't get rabies or syphylis.

  19. He suggested to Lucas to implement the scrawl at the beginning of Star Wars. After he showed it to his peers (Spielberg, Coppolla, etc.) Milius is like "Ok but I dont know where or when this is taking place? What's the backstory?" That's the legend at least.... Lucas modeled the story on old serials so maybe it's false. But I like it.

  20. Milius is great. I need to find that documentary on him. I read some Hollywood books on directors and it's fascinating the circles he ran in. He saved Star Wars for George Lucas. Definite black sheep among that group in the early 70's but they didn't run from him. He was one of them and did it his own way. John Goodman's character in Lebowski is based on him.

  23. I think "tanking" is 99% NOT about the money... I think "tanking" is largely something that teams do when they have a barren farm system and an aged-out no-longer-competitive MLB team. In other words, they screwed up. So now they need to get rid of all their old no-longer-good players, trade the 1 or 2 guys that might have some trade value, and completely rebuild their farm system. In other words, there's no such thing as tanking in baseball or hockey. The developmental period is TOO LONG. In basketball, and possibly football (I don't think it exists in the NFL either), yes. Because in basketball, 1 player can completely change the future of a team, and make an almost immediate impact. The rest of the Org still needs to be run well in order for it to succeed... but that's another discussion. In baseball, with a barren farm system, eventually, the piper has to be paid, and that means losing seasons, most likely multiple. There's no such thing as tanking in baseball. Only rebuilding.

  24. It's June 3 and the Tigers play the defending champs and have the same record. Is that good?
    1 point
  25. agreed. And I don't expect, and don't agree, that fans are generally smarter or know was much. They have access to data that we do not. Doesn't mean they are always right of course. You can and should criticize the Tigers for their lack of development overall the last 40 years but to me the Tork pick is immune from that because of the potential top 5-10 picks from that draft... they're all "busts". So it wasn't a case of bad scouting or bad development in this situation. If a few of the other picks were doing ok then it's fair to criticize because they should have at least been able to match the other organizations in that situation and it's fair to expect that Fans don't have to know which one to take in order to criticize. That's not what I am suggesting. But at minimum you can throw out "They should have taken one of the other guys". That's fair. In 2020 there were no other guys.

  27. The history of the draft suggests that the experts often get it wrong. This is not like the NBA and NFL where there is a high probability of success with high draft picks.

  28. I'm looking forward to what Malloy can do. His minor league numbers are very consistent. He gets on base at an elite level and has some power. He's exactly Harris' type of hitter. Let's see if his success in the minors can produce results in the Majors.

  30. He crushed fastballs last year with 17 HRs and a BA/SLG of .270/.497 and a wOBA of .368. And the statcast data suggests he was really unlucky with an xBA/xSLG of .296/.570 and an xwOBA of .406. He sucked against breaking and off speed pitches where he had an xwOBA of .278 and .280.

  33. Why? Just because someone can recognize an obvious bad decision doesn't mean they have a solution. I always thought picking a 1st baseman #1 overall was lazy and stupid. Quality hitting 1st basemen is the easiest position to fill, so for a guy to go #1, he has to be top 3 in the league for a long time. And for Mize, picking a guy with an average at best fastball just because he had success in college is not a great strategy. That was the pick I was left wondering about the most and I am not surprised he has been pretty bad as an mlb pitcher.

  36. It isn't the same. The rest of the world rallied around the US and didn't demand a ceasefire from the US before Bin Laden was killed. The rest of the world didn't falsely accuse the US of a genocide. The rest of the world wasn't protesting and chanting from the Atlantic to the Pacific Al Qaeda will be free.

  37. MLBtraderumors says that we are indeed sending down Tork to make room for Malloy. As I said I'm skeptical that the move will do anything for Tork but the fact is when we are trying to win games we just can't afford his empty bat in the lineup so even if it doesn't help him from a team perspective it is the right call.

  40. Yes, I spent many years in corporate leadership, I understand how press releases work. For that reason, I also understand how firms operate when they want to avoid the hard questions and duck the media. Friday press releases with carefully crafted illusions of open information are a great away to avoid the heat when your organization has been run like a clown show for years and you don't want to actually face your customers or the media. Lets not forget how they avoided the media all season when people were screaming for Tom or Troy to come out and discuss the state of the franchise during the losing streak. Or that they sent the players out there alone for exit interviews and nobody heard from Tom, Troy, or even Monty. Here we are 2 months later after hiring a PoBo and firing the GM and still we have nothing but under the radar Friday press releases and social media drops. Even the new PoBo updated his X account bio before this organization got around to making the announcement. Absolute clown show.

  41. The two knocks on him are his abysmal defense and his age (23). He would be a legitimate scorer in year one but only plays one side of the ball and is probably pretty near his ceiling. In any normal draft he'd go somewhere in the 15-30 range, where he'd be a great fit for an already contending team needing a bench scorer that requires less development.
